The Day I Became An Ironman
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 24. 10. 2023
- I'm mega proud of this one despite the result not being what I would have liked. I put myself out there and did what I could on the day! Hopefully, much more to come in the full distance.
Ironman Portugal was epic and can't wait to go the distance again.

Possible reasons: Diuretic response to caffeine (neurological response). Muscle fatigue (and/or shock) of the pelvic floor. Other possible causes: Acute Hyponatremia. A sudden sodium loss (or lack of kidney function) induced hyponatremia can trick the kidney into excreting high levels of urine with sodium resulting in uncontrolled urination. Consuming more sodium MAY not have prevented this situation since it is the inability of the KIDNEYS to PROCESS fluids that is the problem and not simply the amount of water or sodium consumed. In short, hyponatremia is mostly a KIDNEY FUNCTION issue rather than simply a consumption of too much fluids or too little sodium. This is why you do NOT introduce more fluids (or sodium) into the body if hyponatremia is the issue. Proper testing is required to determine hyponatremia or dehydration. The most common symptom of hyponatremia (verses dehydration) is vomiting. Finally, urinary tract infection. Post urinary issues would likely result from UTI.
Thatâs amazing! Thank you Joe. Iâll look into all over the above and get things tested properly. Thanks again
@@Josh_lewis Also... long-term use or short-term high dosage (...of which, the term "dosage" can be relative if taken during an event) of NSAIDS can complicate many kidney functions during a long endurance event. In short, any NSAID use could be contributory to the issue you had. NSAID's are the bullet to the Russian Roulette game of kidney function in ultra endurance sports.
Awesome, Joah. Thanks for posting. Next season is looking brighter and brighter!
Very well done Josh .. Amazing performance and experience .. Chapeau đ
Thanks a lot!
Love this man!!! Keep killing itđđ

Exactly haha. Will make it stick at some point

I was waiting for this video! Sorry, didn't go as planned but you gave a fight. Are you planning to continue to do fulls or sticking to halfs?
Haha thank you! i'll be doing a bit of both for sure
HELLO JOSH, nice to know you have enjoy IM Cascais, can you tell me please what was your nutrition on the bike and run ? i saw your descripition for the bike but for the run you didnÂŽt tell us. iÂŽm starting with Precision Fuel and i need some tips regarding the fuel for the IM
iÂŽm doing next year IM Vitoria Gasteiz Spain.
best luck
jf
of course, I had a 30g gel straight out of transition and a 500ml flask of PH 1500 which i finished, and then picked up another two 500ml PH1500 and 90g PH gels along the course. I didn't finish the second 500ml as was flowing out of me by then. but also stopped at aid stations after half way into the run :) that's about as good as i can describe I can' tremember exactly what I took on from aid stations. Hope that helps
Josh, I've a question please.
I want to do ironman cork next year. Its exactly 41 weeks away.
Where I'm at right now-
My swim needs a lot of work.
I can cycle, albeit slowly.
Right now I can run a full marathon, again, slowly, (5hrs)
From training 5-6 days per week, do you think I'd be ready for IM next Aug?? Thanks
100% you have enough time to be ready for next August. Consistency is key and doing the right loading and kind of training for you specifically to be able to achieve it. I'd highly recommend a coach as they'll be able to steer you and help you navigate the tough bits and how to load yourself correctly, shortcutting your process and help make things far easier. If you don't have one already, drop me a line on instagram or somehting and if you don't want my help personally, i'm sure I can point you in the direction of someone else who can add plenty of value
@@Josh_lewis josh thanks very much for the reply. Yes I'm thinking next Aug is plenty of time for me to train for it.
I'm almost sure IM cork cutoff time Is 17 hours, so even if I do it in 16hrs I don't mind, I just want to finish it inside 17.
Tips to improve - Train with Joe Skipper!
I wouldn't say no @joeskipper91 đ
Huge congratsđGreat executionđȘ No tips on nutrition, sryđ
Thank you!
When itâs cold, need to increase amount of solid nutrition, while still alternating solid and liquids, or you will be peeing all day. Conversely, when itâs hot, increase your liquid intake, while still alternating solids and liquids.
Is there any other sport where you can admit to pissing yourself whilst doing it and your audience are probably all just nodding along having done it themselves đ
So true haha. Itâs never happened to me before though! Maybe just part of going for
Longer haha
Probably hypothermia, on the pissing part
Maybe hyper? But yeh if so strong possibility
