Let us know what you think about Cubitos!
We've been really enjoying it! I'm glad you did a video on it! Love watching you folks play games we love.
it's such a cute name haha, means "little cubes" in spanish
Looks great, and thanks for not using the same cards and board as everyone else! This was fun!
Hi from Germany 👋🏻
Love your channel ✨💜
Hope the game comes out in Germany soon...Pegasus is publishing it, me thinks...can’t wait
Looks like this has all the fun of dice drafting/purchasing like Quarriors combined with a push your luck/race board. :D Pre-ordered!
21:37 he must not have seen the 1 he rolled because he scooped it back up and re rolled it lol
The starting player die doesn’t count towards your hand limit which is a nice little benefit as the starting player.
Thanks for the playthrough. I think it’s a good game if you know what you’re getting. So long as you know it’s luck plus some strategy in the dice selection then I think it’ll be a good fit
Ahh, don't know how we missed that rule!!
@@BeforeYouPlay That was funny to see you bummed for getting the die when you're always supposed to be happy :p
@@BeforeYouPlay also, when busting, you may roll 1 any dice from your roll zone to your discard zone. You do not have to move all busted dice back to the roll area.
Best board game channel on CZcams
Thank you for the kind words Dom!!
I recently watched a Rhado and Jen play through and it was a bit chaotic, so I just wanted to thank you for such a clean and understandable play through. I look forward to getting this game soon!
So glad you are doing a playthrough and review of this! I think it looks so fun :) I'm definitely waiting for this release!
Hope you enjoyed the play!
Just discovered your channel a few days ago. So far what I've found is quality and entertaining content. You both are charming, so I subscribed. :)
Thanks for the delightful playthrough!
This may of already been mentioned but on these cards if you roll a shield on green you move it back into your roll pile and roll it again - the reason why is it has a much higher chance (50% over 16.6%) of NOT being blank.
Well done guys. Good run through and review. Was a joy to watch. I’ll probably try to get a copy. Thanks.
Well organized and easy to understand video. Thank you for making this.
Glad it was helpful!
We adore your playthroughs!
Great Video, really enjoyed watching your playthrough.
Thanks for another great playthrough! Honestly wasn't that hyped for this game based on the description, but definitely looks like a lot of fun! Love me some push your dice chucking
Our pleasure! Glad we could shed some light on this one! :-)
Love your playthrough and teach. This is atop my list of wants and have my pre-order placed. I do need to point out another error. When you bust you can put all of the dice in your roll zone if you wish. Good job
Thanks! Always great content! Thank you!
I like the look of this one! Throwing a bucketful of dice always makes me happy, and I really do enjoy race games, so there's two positives right there! And then one of you - can't remember which - said it was "silly", and I like silly too so it gets a bonus point for that.
Great review guys!
What a charming couple of humble reviewers you are! Although you missed one of the basic rules, you made a great job of explaining how the game works. Thanks for your playthrough and evaluation 👍🏻.
what was missed?
Really enjoyed watching you guys play, thank you! Cubitos looks like a lot of fun :)
Our pleasure! Thanks for supporting the channel. :-)
This game looks like so much fun! Can't wait to get my hands on my order.
I also wanted to say that I love your content. I came across your channel a week or so ago and have since bought around 10 board games 😅
Every time we played this John kicked our butts, it's a cute little racing game.
It's so different from the prototype we tried with you guys!! :-)
@@BeforeYouPlay Guess I better give it a go next time John comes to visit. Cool playthrough - enjoy everyone!
I got this recently, can't wait to play, thanks for the video :D
Have fun! Stella!!
I'm super excited about Cubitos! Love the different roles you can give the different colors.
Yeah! The game comes with a ton of cards per color.
I also tossed the insert immediately! The boxes were tough to put together, but after about 3 I got it down.
Thanks for a good teach/playthrough I can send out prior to game nights!
Thanks for the video! The rulebook says when you bust you can move "any dice" from your roll area to your discard area. In the other playthroughs I've watched, they played it that you could move any number of dice.
"any dice" is plural so it would mean you can move any amount. "Any die" would be singular and would only mean one.
This is a very neat game, I like that there are a lot of options with the dice abilities and that there is a variety of maps. I also believe that the comparison with Quacks of Quedlinburg is very apt, you have a lot of similar mechanics going on. Still, I believe the race element of this one makes it really fun for people who wouldn't be that much into heavy euros, so I see myself getting this and playing it with people who are not necessarily enthusiastic about board games. Also, the dice names are very silly and this is very much appreciated, it resembles that Whacky Races cartoon :)
Already have my preorder in. Seems like its gonna be alot of fun. Love racing games, love dice rolling. Seems like an instant hit !
Awesome! Hope you have a great time playing it :-)
Oh man! I wanted to see a simultaneous gameplay - thanks for sharing tho :)
Wow this looks so fun! Definitely gonna try and get this it looks like my kinda game! Simple mechanics yet a lot of strategy with a little bit of luck👍
Just got it today can’t wait to play it! Also got castle flutterstone for the young one
Nice! Have a blast!!
This is a neat game! my kids (and myself) would love it
Yeah it's perfect for families!
So glad you guys did this video. From the overview and teach the game sounded good, but after seeing it in action it definitely is NOT my type of game. Always good to know, so thanks!
We definitely know what you mean. Games aren't typically a hit for everyone, so it's important to find the ones you know you fit your style. Glad to be of help!
Like the fact that you said "moneys" it's a thing my family does. 😁
Great video! I love deck/bag builders so I have already pre-ordered Cubitos. It borrows a lot from Automobiles which is also a deck building racing game by AEG. I was very happy to find a great online implementation on Yucata.de. Thanks!
The starting player die doesn’t count to your hand limit, I think. Also the green die (shields) can be used over and over because you move the die with simbol to you active area and you activate its power that allows you to move it into the roll area again. Its a 50/50 die, which is great to prevent bust and allow a little more risk.
Nice review and playthrough like always. Keep up! Thanks for uploading!
O gosh, that was just brilliant
Rulebook, page 9:
"The start player die is an extra die that you roll when you are the start player. It does not count towards the total amount of dice you roll that round (see page 11)."
www.alderac.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Cubitos_BaseGame_Rulebook-lowrez.pdf
Ahh yes, we love to make things more difficult for ourselves lol. Thanks for the clarification!
Another great video, thank you! I have been keeping an eye out for this game and was excited to see you guys post a play through! I love the dice rolling and different options with the cards. Can’t wait to pick this one up and roll my own handfuls of dice! Where did you get your little dice tray.?
This looks so similar in overall feel as Quacks of Quedlinburg, with some quite similar mechanics. The real question is do we need to own both?
I was thinking the same thing. I already own quacks and want a good dice rolling game, but this is similar with the push your luck mechanics and the zany characters in place of zany ingredients. Then again, the push your luck mechanic itself is not unique. This may be different enough.
In case you're still hesitating: I own both. I owned and played quacks for a couple of months and then stumbled upon cubitos and loved the look of it. Before I owned cubitos, Quacks was my favourite game out of all of my games. And now I'm not so sure hehe. I think they offer different things: cubitos is more hectic and fun and "dumb", where Quacks is more thinky in what your tactic will be and a little more luck dependent I think, with what you pull out of your bag, and it is also a _lot_ more tense. I still love both and can highly recommend both. If you enjoy dice and owning al these little dice and choosing between them and rolling 9 or 13 of 'em cubitos is a lot of fun. So even if you have Quacks you definitely can put cubitos in your basket.
The first player die does not count towards your hand size, which means first round you could have had 10 dies if you start with the die.
Insert "bustin makes me feel good" reference
Also, What about Bob? It's like this game was made for Bill Murray references
Ok, this game looks like a ton of fun. I've been looking for a dice chucker
So this is basically Quacks of CubeRaceburg?
Looks fun!
I had the same thought. I prefer Quacks.
@@tonybowers9490 I don’t know, I love quacks but the dice rolling seems a lot more satisfying and less able to cheat than in Quacks. I’ve had some friends hold what they knew to be white chips while playing to get huge plays haha
Kina of sort of, any push your luck game could get boiled down to that lol
@@BeforeYouPlay true. The “bag building” of this game does seem a little better to me though. Plus the dice rolling seems to have a bigger wow factor than just pulling one chip at a time. This looks like a great game!
@@Iamwrongbut I think the two satisfy different things. I don't know if it's because they picked certain cards but they got rid of their bad dice easily. They were able to mitigate a lot of the push your luck elements. They only busted 3 times and that was in the beginning of the game. And the penalty for busting isn't big in this. You actually get benefits from busting. There seemed to be little reason to take risks. And the risks you do take aren't huge. You can also see your dice and your odds. So this seemed a lot less tense than Quacks. But it also seems more strategic.
I'm happy to see Naveen win.
Well deserved!! haha
Hi! Love your guys videos! Keep up the great work! What dice tray do you guys use? Our current one is way too big and that one looks like the perfect size for my SO and I.
Got this today and boy putting those boxes together was a pain 😆😆😆
Some interesting decisions, even though the game is largely push your luck with lucky dice rolling. I don't know how many cards there are for each color but obviously the more potential combos, the greater the replayability. Despite the format should lend itself to an interactive "take that" mechanic, the fact that two tokens can occupy the same space, and there's no stealing or interfering with opponents' dice, means that it's largely multiplayer solitaire. Anyway, very good overview and playthrough, many thanks for uploading.
Just dropping by to say that since we started watching BYP, my wife and I decide random stuff with the even or odds game (the starting player game). So, don’t let anyone tell you you are not an inspiration ;).
LOL, we love Even and Odds! Thank you for the love!!
Very nice! Have you guys tried El Dorado yet? Racing and deck building also. I have it but haven't pulled it off the shelf yet.
Wahoo Cubitos!
YEAHHHH!!!
At the 29 minute mark she busted. That gives her the option to move any dice from her roll zone to her discard zone so she has a better chance to use better dice on the next turn.
That's funny, slickerdrips also forgot about Bob for the majority of his playthrough!
Oh really lol?! Bob feels essential to get one. lol
@@BeforeYouPlay I think his was also a case of setting it up in a weird spot where it was ignored for most of the game 😅
I get "Quacks of Quedlingburg" vibes from this.
Looks different enough obviously, but the different coloured dice, having different possible abilities and some working of each other.
Great playthrough, and wen't pretty fast considering you took turns rolling instead of doing it at the same time.
this is my concern... i might be one of the few people that doesn't like quacks. Quacks felt like whoever was in the lead was going to win no matter what. I also hated the bag. With that being said i do like dice in general. It was nice seeing it still look like a close game even with Monique busting early.
@@thomasachhireddy8483 The penalty for busting here does seem very severe. At least in Quacks ( which I love) you either get points or money to buy when you bust.
I think it's rather a dice pool building game, because you are not modifing your dice (like for ex. in Dice Forge), just your dice pool.
We like quacks, but I think I might like this more for 2 players. In Quacks, if you bust, most of the time you can't catch up. This one looks like there could more about how you use the different die than think of what might be in the bag. Quacks plays well with more than 2 players
At 21:34 Naveen ignored a coin which he later used the orange die for! :D
What is that container you're using to hold your dice rolls?
Hi guys, i'm not sure if i missed that part of the explanation - but can You move in any direction including back?
I think John d Clare posted on BGG that the white insert was meant to be thrown out
LOL thank you!!! We were like "okay maybe we aren't very bright here..."
@@BeforeYouPlay well its also stated in the rulebook ;-)
I'm in the middle on this one. Wanted to like it more than I did.
Push your luck with a bit os strategy... I added to my whislist, Do you think this will work with 5 players?
I believe it only plays 4 players. At 5 the dice you can buy would likely run dry.
Would you believe that just last night I was showing my girlfriend your channel and also separately was showing her Cubitos? And then this video gets uploaded. Wild.
We are but a simulation, a hologram ;-)
@@BeforeYouPlay hahah that’s awesome!!
seems like a nice introduction game. people probably wont go wrong with it, but I wouldn't rate it in top 3 racing games
Super fair! What's your favorite racing game?
@@BeforeYouPlay lewis & clark, and since The Climbers is also in this category, I will mention it as well as a fun race fame
at 21:32 naveen missed a grey coin die and re-rolled it....
I think I figured out the "boxing/storage" dilemma!!!
How do you do it?
Could you please share a link for your smart dice tray?
Could Monique have tried to push that last time for credit to hit the 4-credit cost of moving one more space?
Played it for the first time and I really like it. It's not as elagant as Quacks though, also the rulebook is a bit too messy.
One mistake you made during the play is about busting. The rulebook says:
"As a bonus, you may move any dice from your Roll
Zone to your Discard Zone; any dice that you do
not discard in your Roll Zone stay there for the next
round"
Any Dice, as in plural. ;)
I don't think the first player die counts towards your 9 rollable dice.
Yeah we just realized it after posting. We'll make the update in the Klingon subtitles :-)
Could Monique have paid 4 coins at the end to complete the race first (If she had the coins that is)?
Yes she could have! Naveen still would have won though since he went two spots past the finish line
When you are rolling the first player die it doesn’t count towards your total btw
thanks! Yeah, it seems we like making things more difficult for ourselves haha. We will make sure to remember that!
So I have a question, why did red not move 3 spots at time stamp 37:57? I'm sorry I don't want to butcher your name.
Naveen saying "feetsies" makes me so happy.
LOL he refers to all feet as "feetsies" actually
@@BeforeYouPlay YES! I say feetsies to my dog.
This or Quacks? If you don't won either. Or, does it replace Quacks?
Hmm... great question. Maybe this one for me. I think dice are more exciting.
This game looks fun but just slightly too long for what I would want from it. Maybe simultaneous play would fix that. Either way, I think Quacks will be the push your luck game I pick up first.
The game totally supports simultaneous play, so it would normally go faster.
You can always pay 4 coins for 1 foot :)
II checked my CZcams analytics and it says I have been subbed for at least 1 year! With that I have a major complaint with this channel. I don't see any Martin Wallace. If I can paraphrase a famous 80s commercial: "Where's the Brass?"
Agreed. This really is a great game but the little boxes are bullshit. The card stock is pretty thin, poorly creased and cracks at the folds when you fold them. That being said, I like the game enough that I'm going to design and 3d print my own boxes. I think it's worth mentioning that is has a stricking similarity with quarriors/dicemasters and the variability functions almost exactly the same. However, for me personally, I find the race mechanic a much better pairing with that mechanism than the generic monster fighting . Overall the game is super solid and I'm excited to see how the game develops as it was designed in such a way that it will be really easy to expand with more cards, dice or tracks. Super happy to have this in my collection.
I m from spain so boardgames and english lessons
I thought this one would be too light for you 2.
it's definitely not a game that would get played a lot with us, but not because of the weight, mainly because of the repetitive push-your-luck element that is characteristic of the genre. We enjoyed it though within the context of the type of game. It's going to scratch a very specific itch for people i think.
@@BeforeYouPlay yeah, makes sense.
I tend to consider luck-dependency as a contributor to a game being light as it means there are fewer decisions to make directly or less control at least.
At least it gives Naveen a fighting chance.
the girl is a great speaker
I don't know, my dice-chucking luck ain't that great😒
U couldve pushed at the end! And bought 1 movement with 1 coin if u had rolled it. cuz u had 3 coins. wahh x3
hmmm... this seems to have way too many empty rolls and moments when nothing happens. Also, it feels awfully slow for a racing game. "Automobiles" from AEG feels like a much superior design. Besides, the risk-taking in Cubitos seems to leave players with a sense of disappointment (because often nothing seems to happen, you rolled all-empty faces all the time in this playthrough), contrary to Quacks of Quedlinburg where the risk-taking feels "more gradual" and less harsh (you can still buy stuff even if you bust).
