    Just discovered your channel two weeks ago, but you rekindled my boardgame passion like no other. Played several solo games of Voidfall, Inventions and Frostpunk after watching your playthroughs 🤩 seems like good old Feast for Odin will also see the light of day again pretty soon 😁

      That's amazing to hear! Thank you taking the time to comment. Honestly, my passion for making videos is fueled by stories like yours. I'm very happy you found the channel and I'm happy I could help in some small way. You've really knocked out a string of heavy hitters as well! All those are high in my favorite solo games ever. Awesome games! I'm finding myself, more and more, drawn back to the classics. Playing A Feast for Odin again was so refreshing. Rosenberg is a genius and this is a masterpiece. Thanks so much, Tim, and happy gaming!

    This a great play through and such clarity. What stands out to me during your scoring is how many points are available via different strategies that you didn’t take. And you still scored so well! This shows the enormous variety in aFFO. Love this game, especially solo.

    Great video as always! Odin was the first heavy game we got and it's still a top 3 game many years later. I've played it solo countless times. I think you did well given that you had to record everything and teach the game at the same time. Do you know if the old solo campaign/challenges on bgg? If not give them at try. They will force you to grow as a player and teach you new strategies.
    For anyone else here are some beginner challenges:
    1) get to 3 income in round 1
    2) fill an island by round 3 (it's possible to completely fill an island in round 2 but hard for a beginner)
    3) get 4 islands
    4) get 5 buildings (more is possible but hard for beginners)
    5) get 140 points
    If you are a beginner and manage to beat all these challenge you are no longer a beginner. Congratulations!

I hope my channel can continue to be an entertaining and positive distraction. And thank you for taking the time to write such kind words. It is honestly what keeps me energized to keep making videos. All the best!

    I have such a visceral recoil response when it comes to any game with a polyomino aspect. I think it probably comes from childhood Tetris trauma, and old school video game inventory management 😅. Whatever the case, I can't bring myself to try them, although I can still enjoy watching others play them. Great video, as always!

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  Před 4 dny +4

      Ha, that is so funny. I get such the opposite response. Fitting the pieces together fills me with an irrational childlike joy. I especially love that you have to earn the pieces and you can get some wild shapes. I consider filling up your central board in A Feast for Odin to still be one of the most satisfying things in all of board gaming. Oh, that should be a top 10 list! I really appreciate you watching the playthrough despite it triggering childhood trauma. :) Thanks, Morga!

      You are really missing out, but then, I have the opposite reaction from you. It's among my favorite game mechanics. Maybe it's reminiscent of jigsaw puzzles, which I also love...🤔 Feast for Odin is Uwe's finest game, in my opinion. It is unlike Tetris, in that you aren't on that time crunch, where you have to fit a piece before it crashes into place. Maybe that's the trauma? No rush placing the pieces down where you want them.

    i just started playing board games in the last 3 months that being said ... why everyone tell me this game is complicated and i shouldn't play it as beginner?!!
    this is perfect for me!

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  Před 2 dny

      Sure, I wouldn't recommend this as anyone's first game. But playing heavier games is really a question of -- how much effort is someone willing to put into learning and playing this game? With experience, the effort needed greatly decreases. So before someone tackles A Feast For Odin, I'd love for them to play a worker placement game, a game with multiple phases, a game with various mini games, a polyomino game, a sandboxy game that doesn't hold your hand, etc. A Feast for Odin has a bunch of rules and a bunch of bookkeeping, which can be difficult for new players. But some beginners have a head for board game rules and the energy to tackle these bigger games, and if that is you then 100% jump in. This is one of the best games of all time. Thanks for watching!

    132pts seems like a average to good result.
    My solo results with the Norwegian so far are:
    167
    143
    142
    141
    136
    133
    132
    131
    131
    129
    128
    123
    The game is my #3 of all time, so awesome, especially solo.
    Every game your sandbox is different and with the expansion, all playstyles seem to be balanced.
    E.g. I never finished my game with just one additional island filled, and nothing else.
    I either go for two Islands OR in addition to one island I build several houses....especially the special one you get every game.
    IMO feading is no issue in this game, it's more like getting all those orange and red tiles on the table. For that, you need a lot of trade or houses or do actions that only give you green/blue/grey tiles.
    And it's all so thematic.
    Tile placement is not my favorite mechanisms at all and some players dont like Feast for Odin because of that, BUT here it's sooo thematic what the tiles and actions represent.
    And after a game you can watch your play area and you can really see by the types of tiles what way you went for (plunderer, traders, homeboy, farmer....)

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  Před 2 dny +1

      Yeah, I usually go for two islands, but I was having space issues with the filming and decided to try to do other things, things I don't normally do. I meant to get a house and I meant to show off animals and breeding, but the play got away from me and I never did. But, like you say, that is part of the fun. It is sandboxy and trying different strategies is part of why I enjoy it so much. Thanks for watching!

  • @Mike_James
    @Mike_James Před 4 dny

    at the end of round 4, on your island board, there are 2 negative point markers left of the crown on the same row as the ore. are they not considered left of that ore for legal placement due to the water space separating them?

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  Před 4 dny

      Those are in line with the exposed income icon, so I would only need to cover those if I cover the income icon. In the case of this island, it is not possible to cover it, so everything is legal. Thanks for watching!
