- As you get more and more comfortable with your drops, add "baby scratches" otherwise known as fader-less scratching. Don't get stuck executing your cuts one way though. The point of scratching is to enhance the listening experience of the music you're scratching to for your audience so BE EXPRESSIVE!!! Find your own distinct "baby scratch" rhythms. There's a plethora that exist, tap into them... #WeTalkinBoutPractice

I've been DJing for over 20 years and a turntablist for exactly 20 (my first battle/turntablist routine). It is incredibly eye opening seeing the realization of these techniques in a fairly new DJ. i love watching all of swifts tutorial videos. he breaks down all the fundamentals in such a way that its methodical and easy to understand. as i have said before he is a great teacher and can articulate his thoughts clearly. wish i could go back in time and have a teacher like this!

Why am I getting more out of this than just dj-ing lessons? Confidence is key and Rob Swift is killin it.
Many props for sharing this and what you're doing, because for many of us this is an amazing and unseen oportunity to learn this art from the mentor we never were able to have. Been involved with HipHop culture for long, mostly breaking and painting but being from a small town I had to learn by myself until I started travelling and meeting other people, never had a great mentor to teach me the right path, the foundations or preventing me from learning wrong. So now I definitely appreciate all the knowledge you are dropping and sharing so other people could learn the right way if they want to get into turntablism and Djing. It's now when I realize how fast and consistent one could learn with the right mentor! This is what this is all about, each one teach one and the internet is giving us a real, creative and positive oportunity when used right. Peace out!

I watched him grow very quickly from the beginning to the end but there were times where I would have liked to see him given more time on his passes. Especially on the last one. Watch his left hand he's controlling the record like an experienced scratcher just before he's stopped.

As a drum teacher, I would expect them to practice the 8th and 16th notes with a metronome starting slowly and then gradually raising the bpm, as well as going over a sheet of classic scratch patterns and practicing those with the metronome.

i think he could have started the scratch with the beat counts like 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and release....that might work fixing his timing on the scratch.
