For Kirk to be benched THIS year he would literally need to have a Zach Wilson season... and even that might not be enough considering the team would easily convince themselves that his track record says it would turn around. In short the answer is no unless you would count the last week or 2 if they are out of contention. But let's be honest we all know how the season will go... as every Kirk Cousins season goes. He will throw 4000 yards and 30 TDs and his team's defense will crap the bed at some point in a key game that leads to the teams exit.
And everyone will blame Kirk
Or he's faced with "4th and 8" with the season on the line.
I had Sunday Ticket for a couple of years when it began in the 90s. Am I eligible for a pay day?
It is a valid question about Kirk Cousins, who had a history of slow starts in MN. 2022 being the lone exception. Here's a breakdown of the first four games when Cousins was the starting QB from '18 to '23
2018: 1-2-1.
2019: 1-3.
2020: 1-3.
2021: 1-3.
2022: 3-1.
2023: 1-3.
No doubt that the Falcons are aware of it, and so is Cousins. Despite the NFC South being a winnable division this season for Atlanta, if Kirk gets off to another slow start again the calls for Penix will only get louder.
Hard knocks offseason is so much better than in season and presason
The Falcons drafting Penix was the head-scratcher of the draft. I feel bad for him, and for the fans. The team won't be able to take advantage of the cheap rookie deal now - they won't have the cap space to build around either QB.
The Falcons are favorites to win their division now and Kirk should focus on that because anything could happen in the playoffs. And if the rookie deal was so important for young qbs teams wouldn’t pay them so early. Good qbs are priceless.
@@jordansheffield6101Seahawks won a superbowl ONLY because Russ was on a rookie deal. When they had to pay him they lost several key players on defense and Oline. Elite QBs can overcome it. The rest typically can not. That rookie contract is extremely important
@@brandonwilson4740 that’s the definition of anecdotal. 23 of last 30 qbs to win a Super Bowl have not been on their rookie contract. That’s a statistical trend.

My Giants were never going to give him that number no matter what. And unless youre a die hard giants fan like me i doubt youve watched every snap. Saquon has not been that rookie phenomenon since his rookie season. Just watch his snaps from ladt year. Hes not worth that much money. Itll be good for the eagles because theyre already reall really good and hes a cherry on top but thats not where the giants are. It wouldve been a mistake to pay him that from the giants side of this

I hate to be nitpicky - I really do - but of course Kirk Cousins “can” be benched. I believe “can” means maybe, “Physically able to.” Come on, Florio, you’re a lawyer so you get paid to parse language! Ha! But the real question is, “Will Kirk Cousins be benched, or how likely is he to be benched?” I would write that it’s really dependent upon two things: “Will Cousins stay healthy and will he play well?” I think Cousins is an excellent passer although he doesn’t have the quickest Load-to-Release (LTR) time, and he does have a somewhat high Time-to-Throw(TT) number I think around 2.85 last time I looked. His statistics are really good though but he does open himself up to be strip-sacked with his LTR and TT numbers I think. But if his Achilles is healed and he plays well it’s very unlikely Atlanta replaces him with a rookie. It’s very risky to start a rookie for so many reasons. So I’m going to bet Cousins plays most of the season. A better question: “No matter who plays in Atlanta will they compete?” Don’t bet that one either way.

Russel wilson had a pretty good year last year. Broncos fans would argue but he had a decent season

The Falcons are a shit show lol. Nothing but piss poor decisions from the head office for the last ten years. How do you go out and give the ridiculous deal you gave to Kirk, and then draft a qb who will most likely be better off the bat. Big chance Penix wins the starting job, and now you owe ridiculous money to a qb who was never worth that contract. I never understood the hype Falcons fans put around him either. The guy has had some of the best receivers in the league his entire career, and chokes every year in the post season. He wasn’t worth the absurd amount of money you guys gave him, and he isn’t going to win you guys anything.

How can Florio be so out of touch. 20 games? Players are destroyed the last few weeks of the 16 game season. Then limp into playoffs. 17 games was terrible decision.
He is not advocating for it at all. He is against it. He believes the league will eventually be there in the future. Listen to Goodell, they are def going to 18 very soon. I agree 17 was bad as well.
