The movie "One Night with the King" has long been a favorite of mine (and my sisters!) And it's thanks to my sister Clara for gathering the supplies for this project long ago and for letting me make this dress out of them (well... at least use the trim!)
Fabric Used: www.dharmatrading.com/fabric/...
(The trim was purchased long ago and I'm not sure where!)

This is not a medieval dress...Sorry! That's how much I'm NOT an expert of old times! 😂😂😂
It would be considered "ancient" :)
That's OK Bella and I love that movie one night with the king I've seen that movie about 3 or 4 times LOL.
History and how everything fit together didn't 'click' for me until I studied art history in college. Then it all came to life for me! I think having the visual representation and cultural background explained made it all make so much more sense. Here's to always-learning 🎉
Esther was much earlier than medieval, somewhere around 1000 or so B.C. in the middle east. This dress is one of the more historically accurate in the film, I love your work!
Haha, you're right! That's how much I'm not an expert of old times! 😂😂😂
Actually since the king is historical (Xerxes I) we know pretty exactly when and where she is supposed to have lived - the king died on the 4th of August 465 BC. He was quite the conqueror, and his empire spanned from Ancient Greece all the way to India. No idea if the dress is authentic, Hebrew or Persian or otherwise, but it is way more interesting than Ancient Greek clothes would have been, they didn't really sew anything, just drape.
@@verenakremer6748 yeah, I was still off by about 500 years lol
Oh my gosh, I love One Night With the King!! I have it on DVD and have watched it so many times I had it memorized. You're literally only the second person I've ever heard that knows about it. I always loved Esther's dress, it is so cool that you made it. This was really fun. Congrats on your first hand sewn dress. I've been wanting to hand sew a dress, but it's so intimidating.
Yes, it's so good!! Thanks!
a sequin was a small silver coin and thus viable to be stitched to a garment. Not sure when the concept was first invented but thought you might be interested
So interesting! Thanks for sharing!
I got goosebumps watching the reveal photo shoot. The dress and your sister are lovely, the location is picturesque, and the vibe is great!
Aw, so happy to hear that!
as irrationally excited as i was when i saw this gorgeous dress, I AM PUMPED FOR THE NEXT VIDEOS!!! lol
Just finished watching "One Night with the King." One of my favorite movies, and coincidentally you uploaded this immediately after.
Oh, how fun!!
Esther lived in the ancient world not medieval unless its not the Queen I'm thinking of. But it came out very nice as all your pieces do. 😂
Haha, you're right! That's how much I'm not an expert of old times! 😂😂😂
Wow!!! It's beautiful of Esther's Dress so VERY excited!!! ❤❤❤❤
The dress looks perfect!
I love the hand sewing while traveling! What a great memory
Awesome! This makes me really wanna see a collection of dresses based on different Greek goddesses💙
The dress looks absolutely gorgeous!!
Another stunning creation by our beautiful craftsperson, totally appropriate to the setting.
Thank you for sharing, I loved this!! 😍
Wow those darts looked really weird before you finished but they look wonderful on the finished dress. I’m so impressed!
I know, right?! It was a weird process, but turned out much better than I thought!
It turned out very lovely.
Wow, thank you for this ❤
So stunning Bella Mae, simply one the most elegant dresses I have seen, you look simply gorgeous in it. 🥰😍
Oh my gosh I remember watching that movie when I was a little kid, I could never remember the name of it though!!
Awesome dress.
What a beautiful dress!
Beautiful. Absolutely stunning.
You made this dress absolutely beautiful and you look like the dress was made for you. You look stunning and I love the evening pictures. I also like hand sewing, I find it relaxing espicially in the evening after a tough day. You really look magnificent. You should enter it in a show. I am suprised that no one in the hotel could help with a steamer.
absolutely stunning gown. and it amazes me how much you and your sister look alike--so do my sibling and i. people think we're twins. :)
At a glance I totally though the title said "Easter" dress, lol. But that turned out so beautifully!
Haha! I kept misspelling the title as easter! 😅
Gorgeous dress Bella Mae…and you and your Sister look so much alike…🥰🇦🇺
We have a similar raw silk in Assam and we call it *Eri* silk and it's used for shawl and stuff
You definitely gave me, bible days, dress vibes! 😆
Just beautiful.
Highly recommend watching the Sight & Sound theater musical of Queen Esther! It was powerful!
Thanks!! My mom was just saying she was talking to someone who saw it and said it was amazing! She said we should go see it!
The dress turned out amazing!! Good job!
Mum was saying it reminded her of Ancient Greek dresses, which I thought would be fitting for you making it in Greece. 😅
Aw, yay! Happy to hear that!
So beautiful! ❤
This is beautiful. Those darts around the waist look great, could you just do a post on how they work and the construction/ fitting ? Thank you.
yes please ! i was wondering that!
I would love to be able to do this but I'm honestly not sure how I'd explain it...It really was just playing around with them to get them to look good...I'm not sure I'd be able to replicate what I did with them!
I own the movie and love it!
It’s beautiful and every time Roy camhabge your hair you look like a different person!
Most beautiful. 😊
So beautiful.
Clicked on the video expecting a veggie tales recreation but happy to watch regardless
This is incredible, a fantasy come to life. Just beautiful. Now, where's your dress?😊
Oh, it never happened! :)
Lovely
Now this was an immediate click
I think I was first
Ester is a biblical story. Thankyou for this project as most people do not know about the boss ladies of the bible unless hollywood butchers their story in a movie.
Was that your sister modeling the dress? You look so alike!
Yes, that was!
There is a pile of credible evidence that sequins were used often in ancient times. Of course, they weren't plastic , but let's not be pickey!
Oh, that's interesting! I guess I just always think of sequins as plastic!
You wanted a dress inspired by Greece, so you made a dress for a Jewish queen of a Persian kingdom??? 🤔
And yet it somehow looks more ancient Greek than most "ancient Greek" costumes I've seen.
I wanted my dress to be inspired by Greece (but never made it) and because of the gold and white theme of a lot of Greek dresses, we remembered this dress and the supplies my sister had purchased and figured it would work because of that same color scheme!
