Well...it wasn't exactly as I pictured, but after some problem solving and piecing fabrics, this petticoat turned out so well! #historicalsewing #18thcentury

I‘m still waiting for the “Think Of Me“ gown from Christine.

The petticoat turned out amazing! I feel like when the outer skirt goes on top, any matte parts will just look like they’re in shadow.
Excited for the outer dress part!!

I love it when the petticoat and outer dress aren’t matching as well. It turned out beautifully.

I really respect your patience and dedication in doing all those tiny cuts with the rotary cutter. I would have lost patience long before I finished that. Likewise, I respect your dedication to pleating -- I don't like them enough to consider them worth the trouble, but yours always turn out beautifully!
Your piecing also came out really well! If you showed me a picture without context, I would assume it was simply a design choice. It has a really nice effect.

Darn I hate when I make the same mistake over and over! My kids were my double check but they great up! It's much harder to get them to check my work over distance!
The petticoat looks lovely even with the piecing. I've seen examples of a cheaper fabric in unseen areas so that's period too!

My goodness the piecing sounded like a mess! I’m so impressed with what you ended up with, very creative

It's common in historic garments for a part that will be concealed to be a different material. It can be for strength, as in those frou-frou Victorian ball gowns that are chiffon basted onto satin, or economy where a plain sturdy cotton and a more expensive fabric are made into an underskirt.

I enjoy watching your videos as I work on my own sewing projects! Especially the fabric dying, and silk screen printing techniques. I've don't free hand silk dying (painting flowers using cold batik technique) which is super fun. There's a vid on my channel you can easily find ( because I barely post lol) if you want to see the process, it's a historical technique I believe.

Ya, it’s truly not my favorite look! But once the over dress is on top you don’t see that aspect as much!
