After leading the rice distribution in Kalibo, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. wraps up his visit by joining different government agencies in handing over various government assistance in Tangalan, Aklan on October 6, 2023.
Addressing all the beneficiaries present, the President reiterates in his brief remarks the Administration’s thrust to strengthen the agriculture sector, highlighting some of the measures being implemented to cushion the impact of rising food commodity prices and provide support to those working in the sector.
These include the provision of facilities for fishermen and fisherfolk, as well as the allocation of at least PhP13 billion for the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) Program to help farmers sustain their productivity, among others.
“Kailangan natin baguhin ang mga sistema ng ating mga ginagawa. Hindi na maaari yung ginagawa natin noon dahil naiiwanan po tayo ng ibang bansa, kaya’t kailangan para tayo’y makapag-compete, para kaya natin sabayan sila, hindi lamang sabayan kundi mag-kumpetensya pa sa kanila ay kailangan natin pagandahin ang ating agricultural sector,” he states.
“Tinitignan po namin saan ang pinakakulang ang development ng agricultural sector, saan ang mga taong mas lalong nangangailangan,” he adds, further stressing that the government remains relentless in carrying out initiatives that would support not only the development of the agriculture sector but also address the needs of the people.
“Asahan po ninyo na ang pamahalaan ninyo, lahat po ng nakikita namin na hinaharap na problema ninyo ay hahanapan po natin ng solusyon ‘yan,” the Chief Executive conveys.
Among the assistance being handed over are the Emergency Housing Assistance Program worth PhP17.5 million from the National Housing Authority (NHA) for some 3,500 families affected by Tropical Storm ‘Ursula’; the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program worth PhP5.4 million from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to 1,200 beneficiaries; and Certificate of Land Ownership Awards (CLOAs) to around 100 beneficiaries of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
The DAR is also turning over hand tractors to fisherfolk associations, while the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) provides fiberglass fishing boats with marine engines and accessories for 16 fishermen in Aklan.
