    We took a family trip by car half way across the country one year only to find out after 2 days of driving that a relative had passed away and we had to drive back for the funeral. Ruined our vacation. Honestly if I ever die during someone's family trip go ahead and finish your trip first then do the funeral...it's not like I'll care I'll be dead.

      @MoniqueFromPlymouth Před 3 lety +6

      That relative who passed away better be nuclear (mother, father, brother sister) or at worst one generation nuclear (your maternal and paternal grandparents) to justify abruptly ending a vacation and going to their funeral. If its a distant relative like a cousin twice removed, I would just say "I can't make it sorry. Give them my condolences." And continue your family trip without interruption. Thats what I would do.

    As someone who always took road trip vacations in a station wagon with our family and my Mom’s Mom as a kid, this movie really did an exceptional job satirizing the absurdity of the entire experience. This scene became a running joke with my Dad during every trip, and my Mom and Grandma would always reply by threatening to tie him to the bumper, like Clark did with Aunt Edna’s dog, first. Those were better days.

Clark hits the brakes and they come to a stop at a scenic overlook between Flagstaff and Sedona that's about 10 miles and a half hour drive off I-17 down a pretty rugged forest service dirt road...that must be one helluva skid. Me at 15 years old: oh my god this is so disturbing! This is so unfunny!😱😖😫
    Me now: Clark straps the corpse of someone who died while traveling with him and his family on top of the roof while it's raining (oh god!) And they then sit the corpse down on the porch to be found by its family. Christ...One of the most f ucked up yet funny scenes ever shown in a movie. I need to revisit Lady Killers because that one had a ton of dark humor in it and I also didn't like it when I was younger 😂🤣
    It implies Aunt Edna passed away from heat exhaustion while in the car. I would guess the same time Clark stopped and talked to Rusty and shared a beer with him. Ellen goes, "She must of passed away somewhere near Flagstaff." Flagstaff Arizona.

      Kind of sounds logical. I know this may sound silly, but it would've been funny if Clark managed to find his way back into that bad neighborhood in St. Louis, had they driven home, and offered the car to those guys who stole the hubcaps. But, realistically, the chances of that would be slim.

    In Madagascar, long-distance buses charge one rate for in-cabin passengers and a somewhat higher rate for freight, which is carried externally to the cabin. It’s not unusual for thrifty Malagasy whose relatives die away from their ancestral villages to return them there by bus - as “passengers”. They sit the body up in a seat, a cloak hiding the face, and pretend they’re asleep the whole way. This is so common that bus drivers come down the aisle at halts, poking every unmoving passenger to check if they’re alive!

    My mom took us on a road trip from Austin, Texas to Charlotte, North Carolina and one of the VHS movies we had was Vacation. This was back in 2004 and it was a great road trip. However, my the only two kids tv shows we had in on the majority of the trip was Nickelodeon and Disney Channel which annoyed me because my older brother loved Disney Channel due to Hillary Duff, the sister from Even Stevens and Topanga from boy meets world. I was more involved with Cartoon Network because of Toonami and the Ed’s.

    The world has changed a lot since the 1970s. Back then you got your car serviced before you got on a road trip...... You drove on vacations.......long road trips.... There weren't hotels on every interchange like there are today...... And they were too expensive to stay in any way...... You often stopped and stayed with family members. Of course there was no internet just phone lines..... The source of information about travel destinations and stuff was a travel agent brochure......

    • @brocky70
      @brocky70 Před 2 lety +4

      Any time a person dies and you are not in a hospital, you need to report it to the police.
      Being away from civilization would make things tricky, but with smart phones you should be able to make the authorities come to you. Eventually they would have to call an ambulance to collect the body, and at least one adult would go with the body to either file the appropriate police report and or death certificate.
      What they do in this movie would most likely break some laws as you are really not allowed to transport a corpse yourself from one location to another. Even if you don't suspect foul play the police are bound by law to investigate the incident
