This is so bittersweet for me, Clark and Ellen Griswold remind me so much of my own parents and my dear mother passed away earlier this year. I can't help but tear up whenever I watch this but also remember all the good memories.
I haven’t seen that ending. I’ve watched this movie too many times to count since a child in the 80s. I’m Australian so maybe it was just released in the USA?
@@ioriyagamy4777 Chevy Chase himself actually has the only copy of the original ending in existence, which he refuses to show off to the public. A lot happens with it, but the main reason why they didn't use it is because you never see the Griswold family at Walley World enjoying their vacation.

They were planning on getting on her and Anthony Michael Hall back for European Vacation, but Hall couldn't do it due to scheduling conflicts during the production of Weird Science. And Barron decided that it's only fair that if Hall wasn't returning, neither should she. So they just got two new people to take over their roles.

This movie definitely hooked me as a kid to want to road trip and get out and experience the great American road trip. I am constantly hitting the road to do a random trip, and love the random places out here in the west (Route 66 towns). No GPS either, just a good old Rand McNally! I love hearing about the alternate endings. There is a new one eventually coming, titled "Vacation." Passing of the torch, with Rusty taking over (being played by Ed Helms), but it is delayed currently. I also love the theme music ("Holiday Road and Dancin' Across the USA"). Loving the comments!
