I am curious how the flowchart the National Guard uses to deploy their troops looks. There's probably a decision box asking checking if the Protestors are either black or white. And if they are black it goes straight to the immediate deployment step

If it was a surprise, 8-10 hours is not bad for such a mission. The fact that it was a surprise is the problem. Yes it took that long. Nothing can be done without orders. They cannot get rifles and live ammunition without orders from the Pentagon and that's for every state NG. Weapons cards have to be printed and distributed for accountability. Bullet proof vest have to collected and distributed. All of these take orders to be written, issued, and then cut through a chain of command. Furthermore, this equipment is not lying around at every NG "armory". Not every "armory" is an armory, it's just a name. Most of the riot gear and weapons systems are located, of course, on active duty installations, again, which requires orders to be issued and they have to know who's coming and when. Then you have to choose a mobilisation site, set the mission parameters, etc.etc.etc. Let's say this much, let's be glad it wasn't a foreign power and this will never happen again. There will most likely be an active NG unit manning DC onna rotational basis from here on out. And it won't be for traffic control.

I think he is trying to be truthfull. He couldn’t have been in the room when the first calls were made by the Capitol Police but he should have been notified of the call and quizzed about the status of what troops would be necessary to answer the call. What happened next is the key. Something delayed the approval

As Jake Tapper pointed out several times in this interview, the delay was due to a lack of orders from higher ups such as the Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of the DOD. They are the ones to blame.

They should have already been properly equipped and briefed when they were doing traffic control.

I think there was a deliberate attempt by the National Guard to delay... it is a shame and a full probe to weed out those that were responsible is needed. If found guilty they need to be prosecuted by court martial and sent to prison. No excuse.

The General is telling the truth. If a regular National Guard force is going to be deployed (without prior notice, or being on "Alert" status), the time required is measured in several hours--not a couple of hours. If a National Guard force is in "Alert" status, then sure--they can be deployed/redeployed or re-tasked in minutes (if they are properly equipped (which includes communications), and have been briefed on their duties).
@@kenc2257 No matter what is said, the cold hard truth is that the planning was done early and the force displayed massive for BLM, but was sorely lacking last Wednesday. It's not as if there weren't indications - as per the goings on in Michigan, and the postings on social media - that all hell could break loose.

david thomas I agree...the delay in response IMO was to give the domestic terrorist time to hunt and most likely kill Pence, Polosi and others in the senate and house chambers. Again IMO this was what trump was looking for too happen.

First the general says it takes the National Guard 8-12 hrs to respond to a call. Later on he said they got there at 11 pm and that was great cos it’s usually a 24 hr response time. Wtf good are they? Didn’t take em long to show up at BLM protests, and not just ones that were announced ahead of time. Peaceful protesters get pepper sprayed so trump gets a photo op with a bible. His MAGATs get to invade the Capital with guns & zip ties yelling to hang Pence, and he still won’t use the 25th. McTurtle & most of the repubs still supporting him should lose their seats for complying with the president
