One thing that he did not mention has to do with the polarity of the rare earth magnet for the stem. Before you put the one in the end of the stem, make sure that it connects with the one already in the apple. If not, it will "push" away and you can't put the stem on.
I've seen you knock out little reindeers on the bandsaw at many trade shows, but this video was really helpful in showing techniques. Thanks, Alex!
Well done, Alex ! Thanks for all of the tips. Nice looking project. : )
Thanks Alex, looking forward to building one.
Outstanding project and process explanation Alex!! Thank you!!!
Thank you Alex. Nice project. Looks fun. And yes, I did enjoy it.

I just got home from an Alex seminar in Woodcraft. And as always; his talents and genius's were awesome. To me (I have known him for over 30 yrs) he is THE greatest Band Saw expert in the world. None Finer. If you have a chance to see one of his shows; GO there.
You'll not be dissapointed. Alex you ARE the "cut" above for sure. Thank you kind Sir.
Yes, it was a good seminar, wasn't it? He sure does seem to be quite an expert on bandsaws.
I’m very grateful for the kind words my friend. Thank you for coming out.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, thank you Alex.
I really enjoyed watching you make that box. The tips along the way are really useful to avoid pain later on! :)) Thanks very much for posting.

Awesome. I hope you'll do more videos. Greetings from Germany
Perfectly explained ! Just got me a band saw and will use this method to make a avacado box 👍
Good job friend, am definitely going to try that one ‼️‼️
I really appreciate the time you took to teach, the audio quality and camera work. Thank you very much for sharing!
Thanks Alex, watching that was fun !
Great Box. Thanks for sharing. I learned a lot. Greetings from NL
That was great! I got a little 8” bandsaw at Christmas and that project is now on my list. Many thanks.
Fantastic tuition. Very clear.
Very cute box.
Great job. Thank you. Once I have my bandsaw running again I will make one myself.
Really good tutorial video. Just made my first box, which turned out really well.
Great tips excellent work
That was awesome. I’ll give this a go too, really appreciate the video.
That's a cool project. Thanks for sharing it.
perfect, loved and you are amazing on your job
Thank You ! Great project
Thanks Alex, great little project. Miss seeing you at the WWing Shows. Maybe next year. :-)
Alex thanks for the detailed explanation, I made a trick heart box using your procedure.
What the Flock. Nice idea in a bag
That stuff can get really messy.
If you've ever done it with out the bag you know what I'm talking about. It can be a flocking mess.
You didn't finish it!
Yes go ahead say your wife does the finish work, ive asked her she said bull.
Glad to see you doing these on youtube.
To bad the woodworking shows are canceled this year. I always get a kick out of watching you work your magic.
I do wish you'd add a link to Carter products maybe put a discount code on the end for proof you watched it all to use on Carter products.
Somthing to think about and talk to the boss about. If she lets you.
ALEX your a treasure to woodworking.
Love these keep em comming.
instablaster
I Absolutely love the way you explain things. My wife is a teacher and this is perfect. Thank you for the post.
Thanks this is going to be my first bandsaw project
Very clever and great work Alex!
Awesome tutorial. I just found your channel and FB page. Thanks for sharing.
7:55 You could take the cutoff to stabilize it on the table.
It's a nice box, I think I'll make a few of them when it gets a little warmer in the shop
Thanks for sharing. 👍
Looks like I know what I'm doing this weekend. Great video!
Thanks, please post a photo
Perfect timing! I had just went back and watched the teaser for this a couple of days ago. Awesome job! All your tips will be handy for sure. Thanks Alex!
So well explained thank you. I didn't realize I needed a bandsaw till I started watching your videos, now it's top of my list of must haves. Would a budget bandsaw be capable of doing things like this please.
Talk about a fun project?!?! You are da Man, Alex. Do you have a book of your favorite projects for great granddads to make???
that was awesome, love it , thanks
Awesome video
Wonderful
Thank you for the educational experience I bean waiting for you to put that box so Thank you and God bless
Hello Mr Alex I made the apple box it didn't come out so great like yours but I made it i just need to glue it together and fluck it
Can I ask you a question. My blade keeps falling of the wheels i have a Carter stabiliser
I really like your work
That was great! I’m already thinking of Christmas presents and this would work great for my 8 year old with a mine craft theme…
Great channel. Definitely will share.
Thanks
Nice video not rushed explains everything slow like.
Good video Alex. As soon as I get the new Bandsaw I'll be building one of these out of Birch Burl.
You wouldn't happen to know which Carter blade support I'll need for the Jet 14 JWBS SFX do you?
Love it....might just have to buy myself a bandsaw. I was trying to decide which would be more beneficial for a old beginner. The problem solver in me says that you could just turn the box upside down for the worm to come out?
love it.
Thanks
Really like your videos !!!
Thank You!
Wow!
brilliant
I love the video but some is hard ti follow and your camera isnt always were the saw is cutting. Im very excited to try this. Thank you for the marvelous share.
Great video. Making one for a Christmas gift. The only thing I am going to do different is I'm going to put the seam on the bottom of the apple.
I now see the need for the stabilizer. I missed its importance to this project. I wish you would have given the need for a stabilizer as much time as you gave the tight bond glue. Still it’s my fault for not catching that remark sooner.
Thank you Alex, great demo!
Cool
rare earth magnet and heat shrink. Genius👍
This is really cool. Can I put a blade stabilizer on a Rikon 10-305 10" bandsaw. Do they make them for it?
Great video Alex! I'm planning to replace my bandsaw with a new one sometime this year and will definitely make one of these. Question for you, does the type of paint matter for the flocking or will an acrylic craft paint work just fine?
Any acrylic will do! Thanks for watching
@bandsawlife
Hi Alex. I was given a Sears Craftsman 12" bandsaw, 1970's I think. Will the Carter guides and stabilizer fit this unit? I have the urethane tires that I picked up at the local Woodcraft. Thanks for the content that you bring!
Indeed they will, Give Kris a call at 888-622-7837 he will get you the right stuff for your saw. Give him Code ALEX2021 for a discount
Thanks Alex! I've gotten myself a second hand Universal 14" bandsaw made in Taiwan in 1985, still works pretty well but the blades it came with were dull. Got myself a 27mm 4tpi blade and a 6mm 4tpi blade. I think the wide one is too wide, as it hits up against the bottom guides and either they won't go back further than I can get them, or they have partially seized. What do you think?
The thinner blade cuts like crazy compared to the old dull blades but leaves very large saw marks. Am I better off getting a thin blade with larger tpi? David from Make Something uses a 3/16" 4tip skip tooth blade and seems to get pretty good results.
I really need like a 3/8” greenwood blade from Carter Products for this size saw. If the bearings are seized that will definitely make a rougher cut
Hi Alex come over from fb cool channel subbed !
Thanks
By the way, you have inspired me to go buy a band saw☺
Love it!
I live in Ireland and having bought the Carter blade guide for my Jet 18QT and followed your set up procedure and I totally agree there is no such thing as blade drift. I do have one question - I was resawing and 8" piece of Yew with lots of inclusions and knots and got a lot of striations and ridges in certain areas. My feed rate was steady and not forceful. Any idea what I have got wrong or is it just the timber? Thanks
If the junk from the inclusions gets pulled down in the cut it can cause blade flutter. Thanks for watching
Hello Alex, I just found your channel and I subscribed. Thanks for the info and great video. How do you get such tight corners with that 1/8 blade? I have one but it gets sloppy going that tight. Thanks
Add a Carter Stabilizer and Carter products blades are the best
what holds the worm in the apple so it cant be dumped out. I sugest a weaker maknet maybe
That Saw is so much quieter than my Jet!
Hello from Texas. What length roll pin and what size ball bearing do you use?
Can't wait to see you in September up in Fort Worth for the cutting board class. I'm practicing reindeers this week. Got an old used Delta bandsaw from a neighbor. And now I can practice with an apple box also. Must have some experience to get the most out of your class.
1/2” long pin with a 1/4” ball. Really looking forward to being back in Texas. Thanks
Very clever Ill give it a try, but I need a 1/8 blade. I ll give Greg a call thanks for the video.

@@bandsawlife2660 Fantastic thank you.
Hi, great box, great mon rushed instructional video. Thanks very much.
One question if I may, does the maggot fall out if you tip the box forward or does friction hold it in place. Thank you.
Friction holds it in place
@@bandsawlife2660 thank you.
I'd really love to have any plans (printed or digital) for the apple box and design.
Love your instruction, but old guy who''s not artistic. Thanks -
I just print out line art off google
Where did you purchase the worm. Loved the video and idea. My daughter is in her 3 year of university to be a school teacher. I have 18 months to master this as a Grad Gift.
Step 9 shows how it’s made
Великолепно
Hello, congratulations for the beautiful work. What paint do you use for the interior and what product is applied over this paint? Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱
Just latex paint and flock.
Hi Alex great box what did u say u use to put ur magnet on pencil
Heat shrink or electric tape
What are those clamps you used that screw to tighten Thanks
I believe they’re called an F clamp
Does Carter products make a blade stabilizer for Jet JWBS-14SFX 14”
Yes they do! Call 888-622-7837 for the proper one.
I purchased a ingco bandsaw.
Please advise about this machine.
It came with 6 mm blade. But have difficulty going curve cuts.
Should I use a 3 mm blade instead?
What do the guides look like
Can I ask you where can i buy the flok and green glue? Grazie from Italy ,you are fantastic!!
Here in the US you can get it from Woodcraft, I’m not sure in Italy. Prego
@@bandsawlife2660 thank you!!

What is the best belt to make bandsaw boxes? I'm a newbie
Start with a 1/8”
Where can I get 72” x 3/16” bandsaw blades
Carter
How and where could I get the flocking and what it is exactly called ??? Thanks
Flockit.com
How big was the piece with the 3 pieces of cedar ??
You can make it any size
I'm a beginner, any advise on a bench top band saw? What's the best one out the for a beginner?
Look at the Jet.
@@bandsawlife2660 Thank you
did you flock the inner lid also
The pin needs to be tight enough to not just fall out, yes flock the underside only.
I have a question about bandsaw speeds, mine has 2 speeds (~1400/3200), for this application what speed should i be using?
3200
@@bandsawlife2660 perfect thank you for the reply!
Where you get the apple design from ??
Line art off Google
did you jb weld a magnet to the worm also?
No the worm is all steel so no need
Saw you stick the magnet on the bottom of the roll pin. Probably put it there so it wouldn’t fall off your workbench. Great video!
Great video! Oh, I wish I could use a Carter blade stabilizer but, alas, they don't make one that will fit my machine (Grizzly G0555XH). I'm gonna try it without having a stabilizer and hopefully I can pull it off. Again, thanks for the great video!
I’m not sure who told you that but they do, I believe it’s a STD1 please Call Kris to verify. 888-622-7837
@@bandsawlife2660 Thank you, so much. I ordered a guide upgrade and the told me the GRI14 would work on my saw. The problem is that when Grizzly updated the 555 to the "XH" they use a square guide post and the guides are designed for a round one. They sent the stabilizer that goes with the GRI14 so of course I couldn't use it. They said to return it and I did. NOW...... having looked at the STD1 online and my stock guides, I'm pretty sure you are correct. The stabilizer is my priority anyway, so I'm going to order that. Again, thanks for the info and keep the videos coming ... they're great!
Link online shop saw blade please

WHAT KIND OF BAND SAW BLADE YOU USE FOR THE LID COVER PLUS OF KIND OF SPINDLE SANDER YOU USE ??
1/8” x 14 tpi Carter Products blade
Triton tools sander
@@bandsawlife2660 thanks love the build , I have stater mine , do you mainly use cedar for your projects ??
@@bandsawlife2660 I have a 1/8 blade , but the blade is just barely on the bottom tracking wheel , any ideas what to do ??
I use a great deal of cherry maple and walnut, the cedar was hand and soft for sanding
@@bandsawlife2660 the 1/8 blade I use , the blade is just barely on the bottom tracking wheel , you know how I can fix it ??
What size bandsaw blade is that?
He said at the beginning. 1/8"
I just tried and failed to make this. My 10 inch Rikon bandsaw with a 1/8 -14 tpi will NOT. Make the fluted turn for lid connections. I first tried poplar , then pine. I realized in video you used cedar. Super SOFT wood. Is that why I cannot make the turn needed at top ? (FYI. I am a retired professional carpenter. ). What am I doing wrong ? Could it be that my bandsaw is under powered ?Also. You never mentioned the need to have top of apple sell simetric so the blade cuts an even 1/4 in lid. You also never said if you drew the pattern of got it from ??
Do you have a stabilizer on your saw?
@@bandsawlife2660 I have to and will right now research exactly what that is.
