Henry is a class act. Things happen in manufacturing, which sucks, but they stand 100% behind their guns. I had an issue with an H001 22. Had to send it back. They were fast and corrected the issue. The gun is spectacular 15 years later!

I had a problem with a used H001T. I was in very good almost new condition, however before a pulled the trigger sort of speak a used a bore light and checked the barrel.. found a dark streak down the inside of the bore???? My local retailer said they would send the rifle back to Henry and see what happens. About 14 days later my gun store called and said come on down, your rifle is in. Henry had sent a brand new rifle and I bought it for the used price. Couldn’t be happier. It shoots accurately without even trying lol. I must agree their customer service is excellent!!!

Bought my dream carbine from Henry, a Big Boy, .44 Mag/Special, carbine length, large loop lever, case color hardened, massive octagonal barrel. It is beautifully color hardened, looking like angry ocean waves with the sun shining through them. I loved it ... until I shot it. I was shooting 4 different commercial .44 Mag loads that were available locally. I couldn't put 7 rounds into a basketball size target at 20 yards with any of those loads. They shot straight through my two .44 Mag revolvers, so it wasn't the ammo. The buckhorn sights weren't damaged or adjusted wrong. Called Henry. They sent me the shipping label for free. Replaced the octagonal barrel with a new one, shot it for accuracy and got it back to me. It took 7 weeks from the time they received my carbine. Disappointed? Yes, quality control should have easily discovered that bad barrel. Dissatisfied? No. Henry Customer Service took all the stress out of it. Henry's Customer Service is on their game. You know this old gunsmith took that carbine to a local shooting range and verified that the Henry shot well. It does. A problem expertly solved, but shouldn't never happened.

You may have seen this elsewhere, I plan on inserting this when ever I see some one talking about Henry. I want to state that I can not believe any company out there, will come even close to the customer service that Henry has. On 1/30/23 they completely wowed me on a gun (.44 BB) that I have had for 13 years, lets just say that there was a little something wrong with it, I had sent it in 2 or 3 times to have it repaired, they did for free each time. I Happened to buy one of their 45-70 last week and noticed a change they had made, and discovered that they made a improvement on it, that would have resolved the issue on mine. I emailed them asking them if they could retrofit mine with the improvement, and they replied back same day, long story short is, they are going to, after they receive mine, send me a brand new one. It makes me very happy that in the last 3 weeks I have bought a 45-70, a .410 and my H004 (.22 GB) should arrive tomorrow. I plan on buying one of their .308, as soon as I can find one.(2/2/23 found one received it on 2/9) I received a email this morning saying that they will be shipping my new .44 magnum BB as soon as they are available.

You did much better than I did , I bought a brand new H003TM , .22 magnum , wouldn't feed right out of the box , I paid $696.80 , say $700.00 , I contacted them and they wanted me to box it up and send in a new rifle at my expense , I said no , I want my money back , they said they would only give me their wholesale back , a lose of just over $200.00 dollars , I said no , I will keep it and give them as much bad press as I can until I die .
I'll never buy another Henry .
Upon taking it apart , I saw what the problem was , the cheap zinc potmetal cartridge guide , it's also put together as a communist block ak , it has no receiver , it's 2 rails and a trunion with three rivets holding the barrel on by 1.5 inches , very shoty craftsmanship .

I bought my wife a Henry 22 for a valentine's gift about 10 years ago. When we tried to shoot it, only about 1 in 10 would fire, with multiple brands of ammo. Henry sent me a prepaid shipping label and promised if they couldn't fix it they would replace it. So I shipped it and about 3 weeks later the gun was back in my hands and has worked flawlessly ever since. Cant say enough good things about Henry's customer service.

Glad they got it straightened out. I bought exact same rifle about 8 years ago, it has well over 1000 rounds through it and it's fired every one. When I bought it the sights worked well for me but as my eyes got worse I just couldn't see the rear sight clear enough to be accurate. I recently installed a skinner rear peep sight (the cheaper one that mounts right where the original was) and boy what a difference. I ordered a few different aperture sizes as well, it made me even more accurate than when i bought it, and with the larger aperture I can still get target in sight quickly. One thing I discovered is the lower weight bullet you use, the elevation goes up quickly even at close distance. 185 grain hits about 5 inches higher than 240 grain at 25 yards, that skinner sight has to be about as high as it will go to zero in the 240 grain, it's about mid level with 185 grain. Enjoy your now working rifle, it's one of my favorites!

Nothing worse than buying a new rifle that won’t fire or cycle rounds. I’ve been through it with my Savage 93GV .22 mag. Got it back from the factory and it works like a charm. Good video. Good luck hunting. Btw, if I was hunting in your neck of the woods with big black bears like you have down there I’d be hunting with at least a 30-30 or 45-70. Just my opinion. My philosophy is you can never have enough gun in bear country. Up here in south Missouri we have small blackies 150 to 200 lb.

I just bought this exact same .44 magnum model H006 2 weeks ago. Just took it to the range for the first time this past weekend and I am having the same issue. About every 3rd or 4th round will lightstrike. I take the round out, put it in my revolver, and it fires no problem.
I got to noticing the rear firing pin is loose, and after I cock it I can push the firing pin in with my pinky until it's flush with the back of the bolt. So basically the hammer is hitting the back of the bolt and just barely smacking the rear firing pin.
I'm glad I found your video. I reckon I'm about to call Henry and go through the hassle of sending her in.

I know it’s disappointing but Henry Customer service will see that it’s right!
I hope it doesn’t take more than one trip back for you, like it did me.
When you contact Henry they may want you to send it in.
If it’s possible take the rifle back to where you bought it and let them send it in.
By doing that you don’t have to deal with shipping and there is a middle man in the chain of custody of your rifle.
Take a photo if you holding the rifle and take a photo of the serial number before returning it.
You can call Henry Customer service at
866-200-2354 and speak to Tracey Ferry.
I would send an email if possible, that way there is a record of your complaint and return.

    • @Hunting4Hookers
      @Hunting4Hookers  Před rokem

The issues are some of the Henry Big Boys have light primer strikes.
Sometimes the bullet goes off with a deep dimple in the primer. Other times the bullet doesn’t fire and the dimple is more shallow meaning the firing pin didn’t strike the primer as hard.

Update: 02/20/23 Just received my Henry 357/38 back today. Henry replaced the front sight and barrel, adjusted the lock up, and test fired the rifle. Looks good, functions very well, and had a fast turnaround time … much faster then anticipated. Thank you Henry … much appreciated!
I purchased a new Henry 22LR with an octagon barrel and had to send it back for a misaligned front bead sight. The sight was centered but had a bit of yaw and was noticeably canted to the left. I later found out this was the second time the rifle was sent in. The first time it was sent in by the FFL shop whom I purchased it from for the same defect. Henry replaced the barrel.
Now I just purchased a new Henry 357/38 with an octagon barrel and once again … same thing. Misaligned front bead sight. The sight was out of alignment and also canted to the left. In addition, the sight was slightly damaged (nicked) at its base.. The dealer verified my findings, called Henry and sent it back so we’ll wait and see what happens from here.
If you purchase a Henry with an octagon barrel and a front bead sight or any rifle for that matter …. hold the rifle vertically and check the front sight.
In this instance I can only assume the dovetail was cut in slightly off spec or the sight was pressed in off center.
By the way, I must say that the service rep was incredibly understanding and apologetic. Henry service has always been top notch.
Aside from the front sight defect the rifles are in fact beautiful and work reliably.
    Hope this helps.

Im glad your happy! I purchased a Henry as well in 357Mag/38Spcl Big boy brass my self! It was actually a used gun although it was pretty much brand new. I purchased it for just over 800bucks and i couldnt be happier! Although i did purchase a Henry that has a pretty good scratch on the reciver it wasnt a deal breaker. The Henry i have is the single smoothest and accurate rifle i own! Even more accurate then any of my ARs or bolt guns at the same distances!!! I have always wanted a Henry and at the same time felt as you ,tyhat i couldnt justify the amount of money for the gun they wanted. But when i saw the used one in my local store i couldnt say no! Now dont get me wrong i have other lever guns and love them just as much but none look as nice as my Henry, even with that damn scratch! HEHE I play to put some nicer ghost ring sights on it from either ,Ranger Point Precision or a set of Steven's iron sights? The Steven's sights are much cheaper but both make a great set of iron's for the lever guns! Hope you have a great time hunting with that Henry! I dont hunt much my self ,unless its hogs but i do carry my Henry for self defense when hiking. Once i find some land in eastern T.N. or W.V., i will be carrying it regularly! I trust my Henry and hope you can come ot trust yours?! ;>)

Glad you got it resolved. I have only had had one problem with a new gun. That was a bent recoil spring on a 1911. I just grabbed a spare I had and was shooting. I had a Win 94 in 44. It was great. I loaded a 300 grain cast bullet that would knock down anything. It was very effective when I had a dog pack in the cattle. They had been bothering cattle for a fairly large radius. I got 5 of the8 one morning. The rest either moved on or broke up. So 44 in a lever is a very effective tool.

I can understand the frustration comepletely. You pay that much for a rifle, you expect it to work. You shouldn't have to send it back to the company that built it. But glad Henry fixed the issues and was owning up to it.

Well, I just got my 30-30 back from Henry. It won’t extract and eject properly. The last straw was a stuck live round in the chamber. I had to break down the entire rifle to get it out before sending it in. It was a bad extractor and Henry gladly replaced that and fixed up my rifle so no complaints from me!

I’m glad your Henry is fixed. I have a S&W 44 mag pistol that took three times to get it squared away. It didn’t have the same problem as your Henry but after three times I’m not going to purchase a new S&W. S&W customer service on the phone was good, but it should not have taken three times to correct the problem. The way Guns are manufactured these days might be great when it comes to tolerances, but the craftsmanship is not there. The human touch isn’t there anymore due to the economics today. The old Winchester M94 was one the best woods rifles produced.

    • @Hunting4Hookers
      @Hunting4Hookers  Před rokem

You won’t get an argument from me!
You can still get old world craftsmanship such as hand lapping parts and hand cut checkering, but it is cost prohibitive to most folks because all that time consuming manual labor is expensive.
I had a S&W 629 that was never quite right.
I owned it for about 15 years and sold it for more than I paid new.
I only want one more handgun and that is a Ruger Super Redhawk!

I have a Henry Big Boy in .44 Mag with the octagon barrel I bought about 15-years ago. I have about 300 rounds through it. I never had light primer strike problem, but it did have some problems with not liking to feed hollow point ammo because the feed ramp has a sharp edge on it that likes to catch the sharp nose edge of of a hollow point round. I only put FMJ flat nose .44 Mag rounds through it then I have no problems.

Yup I had a savage with light strike problem and it's extremely irritating. I just took an x39 ruger american ranch out for the first time and had two out of 25 rounds ftf. Really hoping it was just a fluke. It's harder here (canada) as you don't send it to the manufacturer, you send it to whoever they contracted in Canada to do warranty work. From what I understand most of these contractors take their sweet time fixing problems, and don't really care too much.

I recently checked out a Rossi 92 in my local gun shop and it feels like a cheap toy compared to the big boy. I know people say they are decent levers for the price but I think you get way more for your $ with the Henry. 44 Mag is the best caliber for a lever rifle too.

Dismayed with Henry myself. Purchased a new H009G chambered in the new Remington 360 caliber. Initially mounted a Bushnell 4500 Elite 1-4x scope using Weaver Grand Slam steel rings and Henry's suggested Weaver 63B one piece aluminum base. Accuracy was all over the paper! OK, maybe I gave too much credit to Bushnell's Elite line of scope and assumed I got a bad one and sent it back. Ordered a Leupold 2-7x and it seemed my problem was fixed as I was getting decent 3 shot groups .. but once again the issue returned, groups began to jump across the paper and scatter. Something else has to be going on, I couldn't have got two bad scopes! Time for a closer look. Removed the rings from the base and found the Grand Slam rings were only contacting a fraction of the bases cross slot and recoil was crushing the aluminum base forcing the scope forward. The spline of the rings did not extend far enough from side to side to have full contact in the grove of the base. Replaced the base with Warne steel two piece bases and lock tightened them down (as I had before) and went back to the range. Surely my problem would now be resolved. Initially, yes, but then same issue began to show up, groups jumping across the target. OK, WTH !! Tried a 3rd scope, a Burris 3-9, once again same issue. Something is going on with this rifle !! I've spent over $250 in 6 boxes of ammo trying to zero this new rifle for the coming deer season to no avail. These 120 rounds were all shot from a bench with sand bags for support. I don't want to return this rifle but I don't see any way around it at this point.

    • @Hunting4Hookers
      @Hunting4Hookers  Před 9 měsíci

I’m going to ask what might be a dumb question.
Have you shot the same ammo the entire time?
I’ve had a similar issue a few times in the past.
For instance, my Henry 44 is set up with TruGlow iron sights. With Barnes Ammo at $48 for 20 rounds I was shooting 1 foot groups at 60 yards! I tried another ammo and had the same issue.
I found that I was getting 2” and smaller groups with plain old Winchester White Box 240 grain HP.
      Then I tried Underwood ammo.!
The Underwood 240 grain HP shot 1 1/2 - 2” groups at 75 yards which is about the limits of the rifle and my ability.
My 300 Win Mag Savage was pumping 18” groups at 140yards. I’ve hunted with Federal Fusion 150 forever in all my bolt guns.
I switched to the Federal Vital Shock 180 and the rifle shoots sub MOA at 140 yards.
All that to say , try a different ammo.
If you already have forgive me for this long reply.
I would appreciate it if you will chime back in when you figure it out! A lot of people refer to this video and it might help me or someone else.
If you have exhausted your patience, contact Henry support.
They have the best and quickest support I have ever had at any company!

When you are sighting in, do you make sure the fore end of the stock stays on the front rest? If you are letting the barrel rest on the front support, it will throw your shots off as the barrel warms up from shooting.

Henry needs to use this time to up their game with some new equipment and QC practices.
They are losing future firearms sales today by not building to the demand.
If they make 1000 rifles they are sold before they are shipped.
There’s no excuse for being so reactive to the market instead of being proactive!

I have this exact same Henry that I bought in 2020. As you said, it's very accurate right out of the box. It's kick is so minor it shoots like butter. I had a similar problem with jams and discovered it was because I was using off brand ammo. The stamp right on the barrel (4:34) shows caliber .44 Rem (Remington) Magnum...... I use those bullets only because Henry was made for them. I can cycle through 10 consistently with no problems! I view this Henry like a car.... I only buy OEM replacement parts because those were the parts that were used to build the car off the assembly line. I will say though, that your situation does read like you may have also received a rifle from a bad batch of productions which is certainly possible.......

    • @xxxarmycop
      @xxxarmycop Před rokem

44 Remington magnum is the caliber name because Remington invented it. A .45 is a .45 ACP (automatic Colt Pistol) Colt does not make ammo, pretty much any .45 ammo will work, you certainly don't need the name to match., so any decent 44 mag ammo should function.

Not only do both of them shoot flawlessly, the .357 eats steel ammo like it was candy, never a misfire, FTF or primer strike issue. You had a good experience the third time you sent it in but after that how much extra money did you spend, and reliable? A youtuber on here sent his 45-70 back and he got it back with the same problem. Henry told him that they couldn't do anything else to fix it (in a nut shell) this guy didn't think so highly of them it seemed they weren't good to him, but someone seen the video and jumped in and told him to send it back and sent him a new rifle all of a sudden. (I wouldn't like the surprise of a new rifle that was different from what I bought so I would of liked to be given some kind of option but they resolved the problem so they wouldn't have bad publicity, smart!) So I'm not sure if I would want one or not, they look nice but....... is it worth it??? Nice video thanks for sharing your experience with us! By the way if this guy didn't have a youtube channel He would have a gun that locks up! Plus all the people that have Henry's that I see on here have sent them back.

I think I may know of the CZcamsr you speak of. I’m glad his issue was addressed and made right.
I know multiple people who have various Henry rifles and none of them have ever had an issue….. until mine.
I can’t say much about anyone else’s experience but for me I was excited at purchase, disappointed through a month of returns and as you can see at the beginning a little irritated.
Now that the rifle has been repaired, reliable and strikes matches, I couldn’t be happier!

I was wondering about shipping the riffle back and forth to Henry. Do you need to use a FFL to do this now? Can't go wrong with a Henry plus great stopping power with the 44mag, which is perfect in a lever gun. Only problem I see is the cost of shooting it, not a good choice for target practice. To sum up my opinion, it should never had to go back 3 times. (also you didn't state at who paid shipping to them) The best warrantee is the one that is rarely needed. I had 2 Henry's, both had issues. I believe Henry's expense comes with the finish. They make it very pleasing to look at. To bad the workability was as pleasing as the looks. My Henry 22 wouldn't shoot any ammo (that I tried) in a 2-3 inch group at 50 yards. My 44 mag had feeding issues and the top of the receiver was so thin that I had to shorten the scope mount screws or they would bind on the bolt.
