    Hey Colt, I've fixed this with my Neumann by using smart switches (TP-Link) to turn on / off my studio equipments. When I'm done, I'm using my home automation system to turn everything off. My Furman power strips are connected to the smart switches. As simple as that.

    I got my 1st gen Trio 6 Be's back when they came out in 2015 (early adopter). Completely indispensable...especially the focus mode in mono (I packed up my NS-10s as well). Gratifying to know that it's still other people's top pick as well seven years on since it's release. Btw, great comparison between it and it's larger (but younger) brother/sister.

    Actually any electrical unit that uses small components , benefits from being powered on all of the time. This matters even more if used in a temperature controlled area that tends to be kept on the cool side. In the long run the capacitors and transistors that use electrolytic material don’t have to expand and contract as much , due to heating between active operation and non active operation..that equates to small parts all remaining within specified tolerances for a longer life cycle.....( Total Fact )

    I got me some Trio6s a while back. I love them; Focal have a sound... it's not for everyone but I love them. I do find that I can't get as much low end as I would like but what would you expect from an 8" woofer... that said, it's impressive how low they go. Thanks for the comparison video.

    • @sheerenergy8602
      @sheerenergy8602 Před 2 lety +2

      It's not woofer fault, it's the kind of voicing they wanted to apply. They could make more bass and less max SPL. Voicing is made to have natural tonal balance. Floorstanding Focals with 2 woofer like Aria 926, 936, 948 also have balanced sound without killer bass.

    Fantastic review. I demo'd the Twins and the Trio6's (along with several Dyn's and others) and ended up going with Genelec's. I think it has a lot to do with your room. In theory you would think that all of these speakers would be "flat" but the best sounding rock speaker I heard (of course in my opinion) was the old Dyn's that Bob Clearmountain mixes on. My recommendation / thought is to understand what your room is, what type of music you are mixing is and also to think about your long term place of residence (ex: If you know you are moving to a bigger space than go with a larger speaker and work inside headphones and focus modes because once you go bigger you don't want to go back). I agree with the foot pedal as well. In principle it is ridiculous a foot pedal is not included. Ridiculous! Also for me personally a sub in a big PITA so if you can go without one it is really nice to have the floor area so this is where the 11 is great. My production desk is actually on wheels / portable and having the sub tethers you to the desk. Subs are awesome but they do create another layer of sound waves. And on a total vanity note? The Focal's are absolutely beautiful visually and people may think it is dumb but the look / vibe does matter a little and they are just gorgeous.

    Re. the footswitch mode -- will an LED lamp light-up on the monitors (or a connected Focal sub) to show you whether you are in the 3-driver mode or in the "economy" 2-driver mode with them? If not, how could you tell this fact for sure and in a hurry, with everything else going on in your room?

    The cute level just went sky high with this video. Speakers are cool too \m/ I use Dynaudio LYD 8's and they are big for my needs. I am going to say these look even bigger but I like how you described the level of detail in these. I run my LYD8's at about 3 to 4 feet away and they seem comfortable enough to me but as expected the level of detail only comes out when I crank them up. Lower level mixing would be awesome so, Trio6's might work..... maybe....ish. Again they just seem really tall to me.

    • @mikem4984
      @mikem4984 Před 2 lety +1

      The Trio's are designed to be set up horizontally as well. The tweeter mid-range section is basically in it's own enclosure and can be rotated 90 degrees for optimal horizontal use. I'm using mine (6's) that way and at about the same distance as your Dynaudios and I love them! I used a pair of Dynaudio BM15A's for years and I thought I was happy. But I have to say, the Trio's are definitely a step up, particularly in the mid-range detail and clearer, less harsh highs. At least that's my experience in my room. And I'm usually monitoring in the 80db range and I hear all the details very well. I'll put on my Focal Clear Pro's when I want to dig deeper, that way I don't have to turn up the 6's, even though I do on occasion just for fun ; ) Cheers!

  • @EponymousStudios
    @EponymousStudios Před 2 lety

    This video answered all of my questions! After being sold on the Trio11's from your last video, I realized that my room (13x14) was simply too small for such beasts. I loved your description of how the 11's invoke an "emotion" when you use them. I am assuming this remains the case with the 6's? There's simply no way unless I stick the speakers in the far corners of my room that I'll be able to sit in a sweet spot of the 11's in a room of my size.
    Also, FYI, you can ship your Trio6's to the Focal ship in Canada and they'll disable the power saver for you. Not sure of the charge, but I contacted them and they will do a true factory mod to bypass the standby then ship your speakers back to you.

  • @riyadwhittle516

    Dope ! My working space is medium in size so the Trio 6's are great. I haven't needed a sub but I do have the Focal clear Mg pro headphones for reference for the bass information and its usually spot on with the the decisions I've made in theTrio 6's. I wasn't aware of the stand by switch on the 11's , that is a convenient feature they added although it hasn't been a big issue for me in 6's. If I ever move to a bigger room I may reconsider the 11's. Thanks for the comparison !

    Nice comparison man. I have a 14x13.8x10.4 ft room and using Focal Solo 6 be monitors. I'm really really happy with their sound signature, I find them just like you described the bigger brothers (considering always the obvious limitations of cabin size while being two way and amplifying power and older woofer tech). I love their frequency response and sound so I want to stay house Focal and considering one of these two. What I want is fuller sound especially when I'm a sitting at 6ft or slightly more away from them and off axis. I know they are nearfield and actually WANT nearfield->midfield territory again because I'll never sit more far than 8ft away and find the monitors image impeccable. I listen to my bad room accoustics less with these..
    Do you think that Trio 11 would be too much for this room? I don't want to get the 6s and pay so much money for them only to find out they have more or less the same limitations as mine. Thanks in advance for any help!

      Kinda same situation. Got the old solo 6's and was thinking about the sub 12 - then I saw the trios.. ahh well - they seem to be the choice, but then again 6's or 11's...

      @@ColtCapperrune Thanks. Am curious what happens when you have monitors that are too big for a room?

    • @clickbaitpro
      @clickbaitpro Před 2 lety +1

      @@Frankie_G_ On low volume, Nothing. On high volume, muddy low end. Those low frequency will bounce off from the walls, some will build up and some will cancel each other. I measured my monitors on high volume across my room, there's difference sometimes more than 10 DB from the dedicated spl meter in those lower frequencies which is huge. If you have small ones and also want sub, you probably need a bigger room first. Low end is the problem in small rooms.

    OMG the Trio11 has a Bypass switch? Why the heck isn't this on the Trio6? WTF... the auto standby mode drove me completely nuts when I first started working on them. I literally almost returned them because it was so annoying. I like the feature in principle, saving power is good, but we need to be able to turn it off dependent on the situation. After a month of working on the Trio6 monitors I've gotten used to dealing with the auto standby, but it isn't ideal. That bypass switch on the Trio6 would be perfect. Why Focal? Why isn't this feature on the Trio6 monitors?
