Check out my new tutorial on replacing the Quest 2 thumbstick with a new one: czcams.com/video/B3N_ZIGo2YM/video.html How did you go with these fixes? Do you do anything different that helps with these problems?
I tried out the last one, it worked wonders for the drift, just the controller wont detect if my finger or thumb is on it anymore and I cannot fix it Edit:nvm, it fixed itself after a day
@VR Reviews Hey does your controller still track you hand movements or position when resting your hand on the buttons? If so, what works and what doesn’t?
Guys, is so easy to fix it. The main cause is the dirt inside. You just need to disassemble the controller by removing black plate then clean. Good as new no need to waste time sending it somewhere
I’ll add my experience, cleaning in there seemed to fix the drift. The other thing is after I did that, I still had trouble moving to the left. I talked to support. Told me to take the batteries out for over 3 minutes and that resets the controller. That seemed to work great. There is also an experimental setting under settings that allows you to recalibrate the joy sticks.
This was my slightly easier method: 1. Go to Settings, Experimental 2. Go to Calibrate Controllers 3. Increase the deadzone to something that makes sense 4. Be sad because it's still drifting too much 5. Contact Oculus support. They'll provide a few dumb suggestions like cleaning the controller, or changing the battery, and ask you to provide a video of the problem. 6. Be sad because they probably won't help you. 7. Struggle to record a video of the problem. Change the batteries so they won't say "aah it's because your batteries are at 10%" 8. Fail to reproduce the problem 9. Reset the controller deadzone 10. It WAS the batteries all along 11. Thank the Oculus agent for their email.
Drift backwards made playing anything with locomotion a real nightmare. Thanks to you and some contact cleaner - my controllers feel like brandnew! Just amazing, thank you!
The "Advanced Method" really works, now all I have to do if the drift comes back is do it all over again but thankfully after you do it once it is very easy to do the second time. Thank you for this valuable information, I no longer have to worry about wasting money on another controller.
From my experience, the best way to test drift issues is on the setting menu and search for deadzone calibration then move the stick in circular motion and make sure that the stick is touching the corners while you slowly moving it. You will notice the drift when the white dot suddenly moves to the center even if you are moving the stick along its side.
yea when that happened to me i used that option and it worked for some time, but then it got really bad, you can't go foward in a constant manner, it always stops for like a fraction of a second and is really uncomfortable
I let my friend borrow my oculus for 3 weeks and it came back with stick drift and a few scuff marks, each tutorial worked beautifully. Well done, and thank you.

I fixed the drift on my switch and oculus by using a plastic lubricant and spraying it under the axle controllers without taking them apart. The cause of the drift is due to the component stiffening up. Lubing them is a big part of long-term maintenance. I only had to do it once, and that was a long time ago. Great video, though; it was nice to see inside of the controller. Edit: spelling error
@@corgiman.5290 just about any Silicone Based Lubricant should do the job for a very long time. An alternative, pb blaster lubricant with the plastic spray hose would also work. I used crc contact cleaner to clean it out first and the surrounding area after.

I bought a pair of Quest Pro controllers because of the stick drift on my Quest 2 controllers, but after fixing the stick drift on my Quest 2 controllers I now actually prefer them over my Quest Pro controllers. I recommend this video to anyone who is having stick drift issues with their Quest 2! They don't always believe me, but I know it works!
Thank you so so much. I was convinced I wouldn't be able to use my controllers again. The left stick was so terribly bad, that when configuring it, it would just jump the sensor all over the place. Even just blowing with my lips under the thumb stick (a horrible idea, saliva flies easy and can ruin the components, I was simply desperate) and even that completely fixed my issue. You've saved my VR experience, and have more than earned a like and subscription
What fixed it for me was cutting off a bit of the spring coil. Not a lot just the top skinny part. Sure it doesn't go back to the middle as fast as it did before, but it is a hell of a lot better than stick drift. Also when reinserting the joy stick push hard until you hear a low pop, this comes after the high pitch pop.

Thank you!!! I haven't played with my Quest 2 for months because of the annoying stick drift, and paying $99 for each controller didn't make any sense. I ended up taking off the black cover, pulling off the joystick cap and slowly dripped some 99% rubbing alcohol inside the mechanism while moving it constantly, then used an air compressor to help dry it out. Fixed basically all of my stick drift, it hasn't returned yet. I ended up purchasing a joystick repair kit off Amazon for $20.00 which replaces the entire system and seems to be almost 100% successful, but I'll keep it aside until the stick drift returns one day.
its a good fix and it probably make it work for a while. But all analogs sticks like this is a "ticking bomb". in time they "wear out" and when the stick is straigt up it might go outside the deadzone and start to drift. i think the last update will add the controller configuration option were you can calibrate the stick deadzone so that can help also. i have fixed hundreds of analog sticks to many controller types so all fixes are just "borrowed time" more or less :)
Good to know, thanks for sharing! On a side note, I opened up an analogue joystick from a 70s pong game the other day and although everything was chunkier it all seemed a lot more durable than the ones we have today.

Thank you for this very useful demo. I too have this drift problem with the left joystick and with the right one when I use the virtual keyboard it enters several of the same characters. I contacted the technical support, there I am in exchanges of emails. I'll check what they tell me, but some complain about slow processing, refurbished products that are sent and don't work. So, I wonder if it's not better to do like you (with the difference that I will take it to a repair shop which is used to opening controllers and cleaning them because I have a little apprehension to do so).
Finally I dared (thanks to you) to use WD40 contact cleaner. Well, I didn't open the controller, I just sprayed over the gap and manipulated the joystick (by first lifting the batteries and letting them dry for 20 minutes before putting them back). I no longer have character drift or multiple right stick grabs. Thank you 🙏 and for those who have this problem did not hesitate (especially took the WD40 contact cleaner and not the WD40 lubricant).
I was skeptical, but let me be the next in a long list of folks to say this fix was awesome! Didn't have any controller shift after pretty continual use for the 2 years I've had my Quest. Then I let my Quest sit for a few months and, voila...controller shift on the left controller. BAD controller shift. After trying multiple other avenues (removing battery, adjusting dead zone, etc.), and still having the issue, I gave this a last ditch shot. Holy crap lol. Shift is completely GONE! Thank you for this tip!
If using toothpaste I would recommend using one with bicarbonate as the active ingredient, just cheap plain toothpaste is best a lot of them have abrasive particles which you probably don't want to use 👍
Bro you just saved me a bunch of money for having to buy a new set of controllers. Thanks again for this video. Btw this makes into the radius easier without the drift
Okay so I followed the method, but now when I move the thumbstick there's a clicky noise, i.e. the coil of thin metal seems to be excessively noisy, but the drift is completely gone though. Did I put the thumbstick back on wrong?
omg yessss finallyyyy its been a problem for MONTHS and tried everything but with this tutorial i fixed my stick drift heck yeah, I didint use the blower thingy and not the dw40 anything, just an electric things cleaner thing and it worked ty so much
Hey im wanting help recently i have been playing on the quest 2 and i lightly hit my controller on my leg on the ring part....... Ever since then the circle part has been making a clicking noise ever since if you put a little pressure on it... Any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks for your help man. I originally was going to change the entire joystick using your other video but all I had to do was open it up and use compressed air on it. Ive had this left controller since the quest 2 dropped and now I can use it longer!
I haven't invented a driftless controller but i did create the next best thing. I used thin moldable rubber and created sort of a boot. I attached it around lower part of joystick allowing flaps to cover opening space. My son was so frustrated with the drift issue. I did this about 6 or 7 months ago and no problems at all. Btw, the top part of the boot i secured very carefully with tape at first to prevent anything from falling through. Then i carefully used a hot iron pin head for a more permanent solution. Works great.
Worked for me. Didn't even need any lube or solvent of any kind, just took off the joystick cap and blew really hard on it while spinning it around. Thanks.
Thanks for the help it fixed my controller drift. I was happy since i didnt need to refund the whole headset to amazon since i live in a location where meta cannot send the replacment and me have to pay 400$ for the new quest 2
Had some pretty bad stick drift for the last couple of months, tried rubbing alcohol on the stick, but it did nothing. But now, after some deformation on the edges and 10 euros spent, the stick drift is finally gone. So I know can begin getting used to an undrifting stick. Thank you
I did give it a couple of hits, put some vinegar in it, to clean it. I took out the batterie to recharge it, for 5 minutes. For now, it is working again. (With the usual lagging issues that I encounter when doing my fitness in Bodycombat. But that is a different issue.) Thank you for your tutorial.
Bro, As far as the scuffs go a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is AMAZING. Nothing works better.. NOTHING ...i HIGHLY Recommend everyone give it a try. This Will be the new norm for sure
Yeah, I can second this, after you try it on a couple items that are otherwise terrible to clean or a write-off altogether, you realize the value and versatility of these things. Thanks to your comment I'll be getting a couple new ones, because I haven't had any left for awhile now. As such, I have not tried using them on the Quest 2 in particular yet, but your advice is gold. Thanks for the reminder!
Amazon sells replacement joystick components. If you’re skilled at electronics repair or have a friend like me that is, it’s completely fixed my issue. Note that the actual stick is not included but I’ve used old Xbox thumb sticks as an alternative. Yes some modifications were needed and warranty is voided but honestly I like the fatter grip.
I just used this trick to fix my drift, and it was 9 dollars well spent. Oculus was useless to help with my issue of just answering if I was still within warranty, so instead of spending 150 dollars, I just went to amazon and got the spray. Hope I get a few more months of no drift before I do this trick again!
Regarding joystick cap if it was snapped off the spring, it must (really must) be snapped again to the cap base, that makes it give some pressure and keep the cap in one piece, I broke it because it did split from the loose end and upwards, breaking it just under the thumb protection. While ordered a new cap I just assembled the loosen part and snapped the spring again and it works temporarily
I had to repeat the contact cleaner trick every week or so until I combined it with a strong blow using a Compucleaner air duster. Now it's been months with no drift at all.
I took the disc and thumb stick off and used an air compressor, it worked for a bit then started drifting again, I never thought of brushing it, Im going to try now, thank you 👍
I blew into mine with a duster, it helped, but there was still drift, in a different direction now. I found an air mattress nozzle adapter and stuck it on my vacume and tried that around the joystick. Worked well.
Some useful tips here. Just starting getting drift but only in one game. Tried a few others and no problem. I’ll still try some of these things, hopefully they work but seems weird it’s hair the one game. Thanks.

Good to know, thanks for sharing!
how would you use toothpaste to fix stick drift?
@@robzeez3539 it's for the scuff marks on the rings that mess with the tracking
Spraying alcohol into the joystick's base and using compressed air worked! Thank you!
This works really well, both of my controllers had a little bit of drift and it worked well.
Bro you just saved me a bunch of money for having to buy a new set of controllers. Thanks again for this video. Btw this makes into the radius easier without the drift
I fixed the drift by removing the black part on the top and just giving some hard blows of air to where the joystick is.
Mine just comes back every 20 minutes
The last tip literally DESTROYED my drift, GOD BLESS YOU.
I did this and the controllers work just like new now, thanks for the help!
Okay so I followed the method, but now when I move the thumbstick there's a clicky noise, i.e. the coil of thin metal seems to be excessively noisy, but the drift is completely gone though. Did I put the thumbstick back on wrong?
Try to contact the oculus help centered over whatever it is called
@@hunter_763 oculus support.
omg yessss finallyyyy its been a problem for MONTHS and tried everything but with this tutorial i fixed my stick drift heck yeah, I didint use the blower thingy and not the dw40 anything, just an electric things cleaner thing and it worked ty so much
Hey im wanting help recently i have been playing on the quest 2 and i lightly hit my controller on my leg on the ring part.......
Ever since then the circle part has been making a clicking noise ever since if you put a little pressure on it...
Any ideas on how to fix?
ask ocolus support :)
Thanks for your help man. I originally was going to change the entire joystick using your other video but all I had to do was open it up and use compressed air on it. Ive had this left controller since the quest 2 dropped and now I can use it longer!
I've only had my oculus for 4 days and I'm already experiencing the left controller drift issue. 😔
Same, i think their sticks are badly designed. It kinda wrecks immersion having you character move on its own in vr
Maybe because you're a disgusting pig eating Cheetos while playing. My has started doing this after 2 years of playing two hours a day.
Thank you for making this video I have been having problems with my oculus controllers😊
It worked! Thank you soooo much! Don't be scared taking it apart, just go slow. Goes back together just like new!😊
I didn't need any of the cleaning tools I just blew into it after taking the faceplate off and it worked! Thank you
This worked like a charm, I did all of the steps from the stick drift and it worked.
I don't know how the contact cleaner does it, but it fixed my drift completely!
Thanks man. Mine was real bad had to repeat your process over and over. I found using the brush most effective
Bro, As far as the scuffs go a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is AMAZING. Nothing works better.. NOTHING ...i HIGHLY Recommend everyone give it a try. This Will be the new norm for sure
Thanks for the tip
Yeah, I can second this, after you try it on a couple items that are otherwise terrible to clean or a write-off altogether, you realize the value and versatility of these things. Thanks to your comment I'll be getting a couple new ones, because I haven't had any left for awhile now. As such, I have not tried using them on the Quest 2 in particular yet, but your advice is gold. Thanks for the reminder!
Thank you for this, my left controller was pulling down to the slightest touch and this fixed it.
if I even shake my left controller the stick would drift in everydirection withing 2 seconds and calibrating the dead zone won't work for me
Thank you so much! My scuff marks are now gone by using the Isopropyl alcohol! :D
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH. i had severe drifting and was just about to get another one but if it wasn’t for you… i just wanna give you a hug
🤗
Contact cleaner solved my problem completely.
thanks buddy!
Great vid. I used some MAF sensor cleaner I had in the garage. Works well without damaging plastics
this man is a legend
I had this problem and I fixed it by blowing air into the gaps of the joystick using a straw.
Thank you so much for the tips on cleaning black scuff marks on the controllers, your video was very helped and I appreciate it! :D
I had to repeat the contact cleaner trick every week or so until I combined it with a strong blow using a Compucleaner air duster. Now it's been months with no drift at all.
I took the disc and thumb stick off and used an air compressor, it worked for a bit then started drifting again, I never thought of brushing it, Im going to try now, thank you 👍
@@highiqgaming2010 it helped slightly but its not fully fixed, it might be worth trying though
Make sure whatever you brush it with doesn't have any dust or things like that on it
I blew into mine with a duster, it helped, but there was still drift, in a different direction now. I found an air mattress nozzle adapter and stuck it on my vacume and tried that around the joystick. Worked well.
The last method actually fixed my stick drift, thank you
Some useful tips here. Just starting getting drift but only in one game. Tried a few others and no problem. I’ll still try some of these things, hopefully they work but seems weird it’s hair the one game. Thanks.
Can’t seem to edit so guess I will reply to myself. Took batteries out for a few minutes and that seems to have worked so far. Thx again.
THANKS SOOO MUCH! IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY VADER IMORTAL WITH THE DRIFT!!!
YOUR VIDEO HELPED ALOTTTTT!!!
You're very welcome!
I Just Uses Isopropyl Alcohol and Gave it a Few Rolls And Clicks in and then Gave the Thumbstick a Gentle Flick and it Came Unlodged with No Issue
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAD THUMB SOOO DAMN HARD AND ITS GONE NOW! YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY I AM!! i was at the point of buying a new one. THANKSSSSSS
the last method worked for me! i was a bit worried to try it because it's my family's quest, but i finally did and it worked!
very simple method: go in to settings an click device the scroll down to a setting that says something like switch thumbstick and click it. Now you will hopefully move forwards with your RIGHT controller and turn with your LEFT controller you will prob get used to it after a while
Wow that's easy thank you ! Thought I had to take it all apart sucks I'm getting drift of both controllers but then I had my quest since pre orderd lol
The last method fixed it and I saved money and time , thanks 😊
Love this video I've been having drift for a while about a year or so and all the methods I tried didn't work but this video though! Thank you so much!
Thank you! It fixed it. I used a thin fan brush moistened with a cleaning wipe and i could clean right around inside the toggle ball without removing the disc 👍
This was super helpful! I can’t recommend this video enough!❤❤
Tried out all of these, last method completely broke my controller, Thanks!
Of course this happened, because you use all of them.
Toothpaste might work, but what I've found works best is a regular old pencil eraser. Just carefully rubbing it off does the trick (giggity).
Will give it a try next time, thanks for the tip :)
A butter knife
Thank u! My scuff was pretty big and I thought it would be impossible to get off but now it’s pretty small and getting it off should be pretty easy!
I found another one on my controller but it made that one go away completely because it was very small
i didn't use it for awhile and it was relatively clean when I stopped. Came back and had horrible stickdrift and its makes vrc unenjoyable
Taking inspiration from the air machine I just grabbed a straw and blew it around the thumb stick and it worked 😂😂😂
None of these work but glad to hear you fixed the problem i I’m buying a new controller inv done every methed on the internet none work but when I took of the black panel and the joystick I noticed that one of the springy peace was bent in the way that it drifts so that my be the broblem if any one has their own way comment it I will try it anything helps thank you
This video is very helpful
10/10 it helped me alot my controller is not drafting at all it's ez and sample as cutting a pie
THANK YOU SSOOOOOO MUCH,I had drift for about 7 months and I haven’t been able to play on it, so thank you so so so so much
Great video!, I'll be trying to clean my drift away this time. I've had stick drift issues 3 times now, both the previous 2 times I contacted support and they replaced the whole ass headset. That's nice and all but it's a pain in the ass to remove the accessories I have on every time.
Worked really well thanks
This worked out perfectly. Just took the cover off and used a toothbrush and it works like it's brand new
I just poured isopropyl Alchohol on the controller, worked like a charm
Thank you so much my dad said if i dont get that marks off he will take it away from me thank you thank you!!!!
