      bmaster461603 like I see where she’s coming from but I still don’t agree with her most of the time, so this is a bit concerning.

    • @yulana990
      @yulana990 Před 4 lety +23

      @@king_supreme1102 The issue isn't that you agree with her or not, the point is that too many people don't wanna admit that they'd be the exact same or similar to her with the amount of toxicity she's bearing and crap she's holding on to. Does that mean her actions are correct? No. But just saying that what someone did is wrong whilst not thinking about why they act like that and how they also want to change is the entire point. Many people want to change, but it isn't the same as ''1 2 3 I'm a new me!". I'm similar to her thanks to bullying of 8 years, chronic pain since 11, a toxic father figure, very bad psychologists, ED's, so many health issues that the doctors still don't even know the causes of half of them, extreme brain fog from my chronic pain, chronic fatigue, severe depression and anxiety that I went from one of the highest grades in class to being unable to finish highschool because I was sick more then 50% of the year and this year I wasn't even able to attend the ENTIRE year of college thanks to my pain and my future is being ruined. Also now at the age of 19 can't bend my toes anymore and it seems like I've had the wrong diagnoses of chronic pain and might have had arthritis all along.
      Now I always have extreme moodswings, ones that I can't control but am not allowed to take antidepressants for as they give me extreme side effects because I'm sensitive to medication so all I can do is meditate. I try to fix my emotions a lot, and actually usually give advice to others about health and mental health and they thank me for it, but my own is not something easy to fix after my mental breakdown 3 years ago and an extreme burn-out that changed my entire personality. You may see where she's coming from, but if you experienced a personality shift that you can't control whilst still being in a bad environment that prevents you or makes it hard for you to fix it, you will stay that way. My case might be a bit more severe as I literally have a million physical and mental health conditions holding me back lol, but what I'm pointing out is that people don't realize how hard it is to change something like your entire mindset and personality, especially when it comes from traumatic experiences.
      She throughout the movie did some crappy things, but her brother never got bullied, always was populair, always had his mother on his side and even used that to his own advantage, and then went to fuck her only friend and when she got hurt he shamed her by pointing out how she only has 1 friend and calling her mentally fucked up later in the movie. Even at the end of the movie he just made it all about him and his issues, which yes, are issues and its sad how his family holds him back, but your biggest issue being your mother who loves you vs. a mother who shames you and treats you like crap? big difference. Yet she was the only one who accepted her flaws and he stayed the same? This movie would've been WAY better if they actually showed BOTH of them accepting their faults.

      These movies have a really unfortunate release schedule. They couldn't be released the first week of November because of Doctor Strange, they definitely can't be released at the end of November because of Moana, and now they've been released, Fantastic Beasts is going to overshadow them.

      Yes and no. While high schools in movies are often depicted as living hells, high school isn't necessarily great. Sure, it isn't all bad, but kids can be assholes and the social and academic stress can be awful. Movies do take it to extremes though. High schools in movies are either overly terrible or overly amazing.

    This movie was good, but the conflict resolution was a harsh dissappointment.
    Virtually, her friend who betrayed her made no effort in favour of their friendship, essentially caring more about her brother than her friend. After they split, she didn't seem affected by the situation at all, merely mingling with other people and spending time with her new boyfriend.
    The brother, who was a terrible human being from the very start, had no remorse or care for how his actions affected his sister. He stayed the same throughout the entire movie.
    And what was the conflict resolution? He opens up to her about his true feelings of loneliness (as if his sister wasn't going through the same thing which he literally showed no regard for), they make up and everything is good.
    That was possibly the most upsetting part of the movie. She accepted the apology of people who had very little care for how she felt. I felt they could have done more for her character, and have her move on without them.

    • @NoahOnYT.
      @NoahOnYT. Před 3 měsíci

      I disagree with every aspect of your take.
      The main character is NOT a good person. Why would she care if her best friend has sex with her brother? It’s not like it was her boyfriend. The resolution is when the main character realizes she’s the problem and not everyone else

For example all of the ones you've said are made by Disney, meaning that while Disney has been doing great this year, the rest of companies like DC, Sony, Paramount, etc, haven't made very good movies this year.

    5:45 this is actually good criticism. A film delivering a story where the audience know what’s gonna happen is tough but if executed correctly it doesn’t matter. Take Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse for example, going into the film a lot of people knew uncle Aaron was the prowler, but the plot is built so his character gets a lot of depth and connection with miles, then when it’s revealed the scene does everything in its power to make the audience feel miles’s terror so it hits home for the audience despite some comic book fans who already knew the truth

    I just saw The Edge of Seventeen this past week, and it was an excellent movie. Comparisons of this film to any of John Hughes' 80s movies are incorrect, however. This film is more like Say Anything in overall tone and structure, and it's no wonder because the film was produced by James L. Brooks, who also produced Say Anything in 1989.

    This was a very good movie. I always prefer the more realistic teen flicks over the Hollywood fare, although sometimes those can be done well(10 Things I Hate About You, for example). Hailee Steinfeld needs to do more movies like this and fewer Term-Life and Barely Lethal stinkfests.

  • @mattschumacher4581

    Everything you said was right. But I think this movie is for teenagers. As a loner teenage loser, I found Nadiene's character to be so relatable and I've actually said some of things she said in the movie. But what I really liked how the movie didn't have a bias. Nadine's behavior was uncalled for sometimes but she was also a really fun person. And her brother wasn't just a dumb jock. He really cared about Nadine and he had as many problems and insecurities as Nadine had. The movie showed how "popular" and "unpopular" kids are just 2 sides of the same coin
