Q&A with James Cameron

  • On June 15, 2013, James Cameron brought his submersible DEEPSEA CHALLENGER to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod. In 2012, Cameron used the sub to make the deepest solo dive on record--all the way to the deepest spot in the ocean, Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. One year later, Cameron donated the sub to WHOI so that engineers here could study the technological breakthroughs he made in designing DEEPSEA CHALLENGER and apply them to future generations of manned and robotic underwater vehicles. At the event marking the formal handover of the sub to WHOI, Cameron took questions from the audience gathered on the dock.

    I love how Jim Cameron's basically a teacher in front of a class here.
    But he never uses "baby speak" to any of these kids, he speaks to them as any other adults, with full intellect.
    Guys like him inspire kids to learn more than 200 average teachers combined.

    He says he should have made more noise about the Oceansgate scheme, and he should have, but I think people that know about the stuff liars are talking about don't always understand the depth of their knowledge and how extremely well-founded their suspicions are. If Cameron had watched himself talk here, and then watched Rush smarm all over everything at one of his talks or interviews, I think the huge contrast between an honest expert and a smarmy liar would have hit home hard and he would have sounded the alarm.

      Because they wasn’t smart enough? What JC did was also done with a team that cared about safety. No about making money. Research, discovering new things, curiosity. Titan was made with a touristic propuse and was done bad. Sorry but it’s the true. It’s a lot to research, a lot trials to do and years of experiments before simply risk it all.
      Sorry for all humans lost.

    • @dougtmcc
      @dougtmcc Před 11 měsíci +6

      Because they tried to cut many corners to get down there. Also their expedition wasn't research based. Their's was profit based. They wanted to see about how to monetize several future trips to the Titanic OR to bring back priceless artifacts from the wreckage and make a fortune. Their motivation and preparation was all wrong.
