121212 There is a South Park episode from approx. 4 years ago where people think standards for movies and what not have declined. So James Cameron does his deep sea dive to the deepest part of the ocean on our planet (which he really did) but to find an imaginary bar to raise the standards of creativity again. His crew back on the boat is just going along with it because ‘the bar’ is obviously an analogy. But he actually finds it and raises it. A really funny episode. One of the better ones. I think you’d like it even if you’re not a huge fan of South Park

I don’t get what’s to hate. Top 2 filmmaker ever and actually does incredible things outside of film like visit the challenger deep or spend years helping out the indigenous. No one makes films like James.
I think the only haters he has, comes front the stories of people working with him on films and such. He demands a lot on his films, and probably doesn’t show a lot of patients. I just think it’s wild that he used work for George Corman, and learn a lot of what he knows about film making from him😜

@@drumbasher In this day and age if that's the worst thing he's done i'll take it. He did have a rep for having a foul temper on set but that seems to have gone in the last few years. He's not a massive egotist. And i've seen a lot of interviews with him. He always praises everyone else.
He's excellent. A healthy mind, thinks thoroughly and even though he is known as a movie producer...behind that he is so much more.

The crazy part is the Titanic sits around 13-14k under water which is unreal. James went over 30k! As someone who fears the ocean and hates tight spaces, hell no. lol.
@@TheProphegy Yeah, I could never get into a sub, even a military grade one that doesn't go that deep. I don't think I would ever even go into space if I had that kind of money. But I would go into space before going that deep underwater. At least rocket ships aren't that claustrophobic (compared to deep deep diving subs) and you have better communication with the ground.

I don't think any layperson (incl. myself) appreciated just what a huge achievement this was at the time. After the tragic OceanGate incident, we can now appreciate how unforgiving the deep ocean is.
At the deepest point of the ocean after many months of vigorous planning and training, James Cameron took pictures of bizarre sea creatures swimming around, collected sediment samples on the rockbed preserved under pressure of the ocean, achieved history in the making for deep sea diving...
...and yet still couldn't get an autograph or a selfie with SpongeBob or Patrick...what a complete waste of time.
