    Honestly, the Saleen Mustangs of this generation are some of my favorites-I find the styling rather subtle, especially compared to what can be seen today with these "specialty" sorts of cars (for example, look at what Mansory or Hennessey or even Brabus will do to vehicles). I know those comparisons are in a somewhat different league from what Saleen does, but it's a similar concept.
    Now as for the depreciation/sales side of it, yes, since most people won't even know what the hell they're looking at it would be a very hard car to try and sell. If I were to buy one of these it would 100% be to drive, not to flip or sell in any way

    If marketplace will not let you put the full price in, change the make and model to other and type in what it is and you can put whatever price you want while keeping it under the cars category. This will probably not work if you list it as a dealer.

    Owned a 2003 Jack Roush Classic, #35 of 50 built. Talk about a depreciating asset. Went in to buy a Terminator, should've stuck to my guns and bought the Termi instead. An instant classic nowadays; "specialty" cars, not so much. Too much cloning going on doesn't help resale either.

    I have financed three Saleen Mustang ‘s. My first one, an 89 fox body was through Wells Fargo. My second one, an 02 N/A was through a credit union. My third one, a 2007 extreme was also through a credit union. I simply used the NADA guide To show cost and value as well as a letter/ phone call to/from Saleen verifying that it was a Saleen Mustang. SALEEN can verify their cars by the vin, even though the vin reading shows whatever model mustang they used to build the SALEEN. It is a little bit of a pain because it’s not necessarily straightforward on financing as well as insurance. If you know what the vehicles are they are well worth it. You can also advertise on the marketplace by putting in the description what you actually want to charge for the vehicle, at least that’s what I’ve seen people do. You could also advertise these vehicles, I’m assuming Rauch as well on the SALEEN forums and SALEEN Facebook pages. It’s amazing how fast these cars get scooped up. Hope this helps and whoever purchased it will probably be pretty happy.

    To help you out some.
    There may only be 3 2008 S281s for sale currently, but there are plenty of 05-08s for sale.
    The #22 doesn’t mean the car was the 22nd car made that year. Saleen doesn’t build them in sequence. Also cars numbers 1-10 are used internally for press/media, demos, family and friends. Not all numbers are used either.
    You can order a new window sticker and a Letter of Authenticity from Saleen on their website.
    The car you have had an aftermarket non Saleen hood on it. Saleen also did suspension changes including springs, sway bars, shocks/struts. Supercharged models also received larger front brakes with StopTech front calipers and rotors. The seats have custom covers and front has custom headrests. The wheels should be silver or chrome and have been refinished.

In 08 you could get a base S281, S281 SC, S281 Extreme (but for 08 they may have been S302 Extreme), Dan Gurney Edition, possible Flag editions (Red Flag, American Flag).

    • @JustinAEgan
      @JustinAEgan Před 3 lety +4

      True....However, every legitimate Saleen.. is registered in the Saleen registry based on the ford/mfg VIN. If you find a questionable "Saleen" you can call them (with the VIN) and discover who was the buyer/original owner, what is the actual Saleen Number (which corresponds with a listed Saleen ID), also, any special part, or configuration details which it came equipped with. every original Saleen also came with a Saleen jacket. Might try to see if the jacket can be thrown in with the sale? Lots of Trivia is out there - if you want to authenticate the car.

    • @wiselinkmarque3947
      @wiselinkmarque3947 Před 3 lety +1

      @@JustinAEgan Every legitimate S281 and Shelby GT / California Special is registered to DMV as a Ford Mustang GT and as such, NADA considers it a Ford Mustang GT for re-sale. Which yeah it's unfortunate but that is reality. The only benefit is it keeps your insurance cost at the price of a Mustang GT which I find is very cheap. I used to like Saleens til they ripped me off. Now I would just go with S197 stock, build up the bottom end and slap a twin screw on it. That's the way to go. It will knock out any S281 that way. 600+ horsepower is achievable.

    I think part of it is the underlying engine, a 4.6L variable cam Triton, is known to be a money pit. Chain guides that break, tensioner gaskets that blow out, VCTs that stick, phasers that fail from a lack of oil pressure, lifters and roller followers that required an update from Ford, 2 piece spark plugs that break in the head, and an oil pump that leaks from the aluminum backplate at high speeds. The oil channels, particularly on the camshaft, are exceptionally small, so these engines absolutely require a perfect service history. I put my kids through college on this engine, and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

    One year my local ford dealers had more than 20 of these out front. The only one i liked was a plain white Racecraft version that had waaay less plastic crap bolted on.

    The title,is misleading. It should be What I learned about selling high value, rare vehicles. The title implies issues with Salween, they’re great, just a poor,fit,for a roadside dealer.

    If you have offers for this vehicle or in the future you find yourself with a similar vehicle, i'd suggest you look into working with an outside financing office specifically vintage/exotic vehicles. Premier Financial Services is one of them but if you look deeper i'm sure you could find more :). Hope this doesn't turn you away from rarer vehicles because if you're patient enough it can be far more lucrative than day to day sales and the clientele you get with these vehicles understands cars and appreciates what you're offering.

    Had the same problem trading off my 18 Roush. Was 6k upside down n the dealer split the difference so I could get a 20 Gt 350. My 17 gt 350 held its value when I traded for the Roush in 18.

    I can understand what you are saying.. i had a 2010 Jeep JKU Rubicon with lots of add on’s. Bumpers, winch, tires /wheels, lift. Etc etc. People thought I was crazy at my asking price, which was very reasonable with all the upgrades. Wound up stripping some the add-ons’ off and just trading in on my next vehicle. If, the right person had come along who knew the value as it sat it would have sold easily, but that didnt happen....

    Bro in Australia back in 2016 there was a middle 90’s white convertible Saleen mustang for sale at Main North road local auto car sales , it was absolutely insanely gorgeous , white 5 spoke wheels , I went there cos I am a huge fan , the salesman didn’t even knew what Saleen was , next couple days I drive past they re painted the wheels black , I just couldn’t be line my eyes , they had no idea what it was , the repainted the wheels and for them was just an old middle 90’s Mustang but at least we’ve got excuses that we are in Australia not many people knows American car history, but Saleen mustangs is legendary as far as I am concerned

    when you have a car like that (rare) only place to sell it is a large car auction Kruse, Barret/Jackson. not as sure about your area but a collector auction is the wat to go.
