They need to rename this to "cars that have already skyrocketed in value"
Magnus looks like he's Rob Zombie's father. 😆
Robert Zombie Sr
Magnus is 2 years younger than Rob 🤷🏻. But granted, he does look like it.
That’s what I thought

Next week- “Next Great Thing: Dragula”
@@samsonian I've actually received a speeding ticket for driving too fast in a fox body 5.0 while listening to that song.
Cats been out of the bag on Fox bodys for a while, special ones like this have been untouchable just as long.
They were either modified or beat to hell when I was in high school during the late 2000s, The good condition ones were either stock, well cared for or modified and ran about 4-10k depending on variables(Like Mods). But if they were beat like most, they were about 850-1500. If you got one that was not falling apart and still had a bit of life in it, that ran you about 2-4. But those were still hard to find just due to the modding scene that was already there.
So good ones were not something us teenagers could get really. The 93's-99's were what we had at my school. As well as 4th Gen Camaros and Trans Ams of the same era. Only one kid had a 2002 WS6 Trans am.
I still see decent SN95 Saleens. Love them. I hope to buy one someday.
Saleen aside Your not even able to get a stock 5.0 foxbody with less than 150,000 for less than 7 g in good condition these days
I bought an 89 Saleen 6 years ago for $2500. Needs painted. But it’s all there.
Got my 88 saleen in 96 for 8500$ with 45k on the odo shes got 275k on her now . Daily drive it along with my 1994 gt 5.0. Just swap back and forth and wont buy a new car they run to good. Slow turds but still cant even get gas without some dude walking up asking if its a real saleen im like no its fake
Its about time saleen mustangs get some recognition they deserve

My son hung out with Steve a couple of years ago during SEMA. Great guy.
I feel like Saleen Mustangs are already a big thing.
Good point
They are rare and expensive.
But they're not a BIG THING.
You don't see them.
You don't hear about them.
You don't talk about them.
They're not a big thing
@@nothinghere7391 I assume "big thing" means desirable and valuable.
Saleen has always been a big thing.
@@RobertWilliams-ox4hz At this point in the car world, I too see the "NEXT BIG THING" meaning its expensive and out of reach of most of the working class who'd enjoy said car.
Saleen fox body mustangs are legendary. Way a head of their time.
I am really enjoying this series. Magnus makes it all the more interesting.
I had an 89 Saleen, still my favorite car and will probably always be my “the one that got away...”
Everyone who's owned a fox and sold it, says this. Very common statement
Yeah everyone I know regrets selling their foxbody. My dad used to have a black 5 speed back in the day.
Well in highschool my mom had an 84 4 cylinder with a manual in white with blue interior. Maybe a fox body but glad it went away. Saleen mustangs have always been cool but always a little too expensive when I needed a car.
@@jpp9846 it caught on fire and insurance totalled it. Someone bought it and reached out to me, it's alive and well. I put 10k miles on it and drove it across the country with my dad; lucky to have that memory. Someday I'd love to buy it back! I paid $7,500 for it with 30k miles in 2009. Still hurts thinking about it hah
@@steved479 helluva story!
I had an "88 back in 1995. I loved it, sold it and thought about it for years. In 2016, I found it again. The lady who bought it from me in 1995, parked it in 2002 in a farm field. I wanted to cry when I seen what happened to it. I tried buying it back but she wouldn't sell it back. It needed a lot. So, I bought my current one and have a new love... And, I'm not ever selling it if I don't need to this time.
They've been hot for a while.
These cars are a blast to drive, even in their stock form.
Big Labowski, Fox edition 😂
I own this car now. She's a gem and happily living in Tennessee.
A friend of mine in Vegas has one his daily drive from new 90ish 400k miles later Mr Saleen and Co have rebuilt maintained and retuned it over the years. A great car
7:12 Stay strong little hood latch! 😂

Last i knew the 84- 86 SVO's came with 5 lug and 4 wheels disc breaks, well before the Saleens. No direspect intended.
Yes, that is correct, I heard that Saleen got the 4 disc brakes from the SVO to put on his cars.
Why are these “the next best thing” videos all filled with cars that started skyrocketing in value years ago?
Well they'd run out of content pretty quickly wouldn't they and they're stuck with the series title and slogan. That said, it's a nicely packaged short look at some cars you don't always see, what's the problem? My only complaint was that this one wasn't in-depth enough.
I would say that most of the cars featured on this spot, while no longer sleeper bargains, are still in the "attainable" range and with non-trivial future growth potential. Even that comparison of the F355 to the 360 doesn't make me raise an eyebrow, because the former is still growing in value strongly with relative bargains to be had if you're willing to import one from Europe and the latter is still hella slept on at its current price point.
Just met the man that now owns this foxbody. He lives in my hometown. Pulled up on him in the food city parking lot to check out his grand national. Which was one of five grand nationals that he currently owns lol and he told me specifically to go check out this video because he now owns this car. Super nice dude.
Haha! Yeah man, I recall hanging out with you. This car is still in my shop in Ocoee. I've daily driving it for almost 6 months now. She's a gem!
The manager at the Burger King I used to work at when I was a kid had a s281 a bright yellow convertible. Sounded so good.
Stangs should still be that size.
The problem with that is safety and the fact that 40% of the people who buy them in north america are overweight and want a bigger and more intimidating car to show off with. Its part of the charm of the Challenger and the reason why no one is buying Camaros right now.
@@Trussme96 the new face lifted 6 gens are ugly compared to the original 6th gen camaros tbh.
I agree.
1989 SSC..a dream car that I hope to experience, one day! Even "run of the mill" fox Saleens, such as this one were quite amazing machines, I'm sure! I miss these old days (growing up in Long Beach, CA...their original hq.
It's just some guy threw some aftermarket parts on a mustang it's nothing special you can buy the body kit and decals new then wheels and suspension parts
Never was a fan of the Fox Body 'Stang's look, but they sure could move! I remember when the California Highway Patrol used them for several years. There was no way to outrun them!
Fox Bodies are fantastic... and going up in price lately! ;-(
Loving this series with Magnus.
Steve’s so right about the gears, I swapped 355’s into my 88 notchback along with some bolt ons and the car was a rocket!
3.55 makes a big difference over 2.73. Mine has this, and it's much better!
This Saleen is definitely the best Fox Body Mustang
lol
I can appreciate the message of the video.
Just picked up an ‘86 5.0 LX, $1000.
Complete car.
Needs total restoration.
It’ll be a keeper.
Back around 2005 Saleen had a showroom / shop at Irvine Spectrum outdoor mall for about a year. Guys could shop for a racer while the women shopped for purses lol. 🏁
Had a 1993 Saleen, still my favorite mustang!! Great video!!
Hell yeah.....I remember racing against the S351 chassis back in the day
Back in the heyday of the 5.0 these were awesome. Owned one for 18 years before handing it off to a new generation of enthusiasts.
As an owner of a destroyed and soon to be “restored” 97 Saleen, im happy that in later years they are still going up in value. I wish i could afford a Fox
I hated my 96 mustang made out of cheap chinese plastic. these are not fox bodies though.
@@potatochobit Uh yeah they are' Ford built them using the Fox Body platform and Steve Saleen added his parts to them. Kinda like Shelby did back in the 60's.
Yes you could say that SN95/new edge interiors had some cheap plastic parts but what car didn’t in the 90s. E36 bmw’s you couldn’t keep that interior from falling apart no matter how good you took care of it
@@dom_not_torretotedesco5707 I still find the SN95 generation to still be a cool car, Despite the cheap interiors. I want one pretty bad, but it would need a full restoration since most I see look like they are on deaths door. Even the S197 Mustangs have been treated better than most SN95s/New Edge Mustangs. they were already beat up bad in many cases in my high school years during the late 2000s.
Good condition ones were not cheap, but there were already many that clearly needed put down.
@@joshuakhaos4451 absolutely agree and the clean ones that are out thier now are still going for good money.I’m my area it’s not uncommon to see a well taken care of sn/new edge GT go for 8-10k
My neighbor back in 88 had a black saleen
It was AWSOME
Hagerty keep up the great work with Magnus and Jason Cammisa!!!!!
This latest episode with Magnus on the Saleen foxbody finally got my subscription but Magnus needs to dive deeper into the Saleen mustang's throughout the years, even though it's not his style lol
My high-school ex girlfriend lived with her aunt and uncle who were young had a 1988 convertible Saleen.
Same color as the beautiful car in this video, best ever Saleen!
I have idolized the Saleen Mustang since I was a kid. Not so much the man but the car. The Saleen has been the ultimate go fast tuner mustang for as long as I've been a car guy. It is the ultimate Fox chassis car.
Miss my 90 5.0 manual alll the time.. fantastic car once you do some basic bolt ons and suspension upgrades.
I approve of this video. Glad to see Ice is still getting credit
I can’t believe I had a white 91 Saleen notch back…I miss it so much!!
I love this series...
I saw a convertible saleen fox body ...that car was impressive. It had a speed back over the rear seats that made it looked so fast...
I have a 1980 Mercury Capri with a Cleveland 351 but love these also.
At 2:26 A very Rare 1993 Saleen SA/10 . Saleen made just 10 examples of that car... 2 of them went to John Bleakley Ford in Atlanta.. 1 was the owners personal car and the Other was still sitting on the showroom floor for sale in February of 1994... If memory serves I remember it had a sticker price of $56,000 and some change... I went there in February because Bleakley Ford was the last dealership in the south that still had a new 1993 Cobra that was unsold... I waited to see what the 1994 was going to look like in person & I was very disappointed so I tracked down the cobra and someone stole the ashtray out of it so my salesmen Nick Rainwater goes over to the SA/10 pockets the ashtray and puts it in my cobra... If anybody out there purchased an SA/10 from John Bleakley Ford without an ashtray I have your ashtray... Lol ( In comparison my cobra had every option except for the sunroof and the chrome plated rims and it was $21,970. The 1993 Cobra R was $25,000 and that SA/10 was $56,000 )
When I was a kid, 1990s, Saleen was a BIG BIG deal!!
Wasn't a huge fan of American cars but now knowing a bit of history about Steve Saleen, I got a whole new found respect for his cars and "responsiveness" methodology.
Another great video with some Saleen Mustangs.😎👍🇨🇦
Beautiful Saleens I've always liked em!
awesome video sir!
These are awesome cars. Proud owner of 89’ #152 convertible and two Saleen XP8 (explorers) 99’ #26 AWD S/C and 99’ #47
Why are these videos soo addictive
Great video.
These fox body Saleens are legendary
In the day, the Fox was the modern hot rod; a good, basic starting point for modifying a car for performance, and the way you wanted it. It was inexpensive and had a really great, reliable and powerful engine that took modifications well, from electronics (EEC-IV was open source from Ford) to hard parts. It could be made to handle well too, with a host of brake and suspension suppliers who started a cottage industry around that car.
30 years on and nothing has changed; the cars are still available and inexpensive, and the SBF is still alive and even thriving, with an even greater availability, and better flowing, cylinder heads than we had back then.
A friend has a twin to the car in this video. I have a 93 LX coupe w/ a 93 only SALEEN Centrex whale tail and it works evert bit as well as Steve said it does.
My uncle has a 88 Saleen mustang race car in 49er red and gold race decals. It’s amazing and very hard to drive
Everything stated here is exactly as I remember it in the late 80s early 90s growing up in SoCal.
I haven't seen a Racecraft suspension logo since then.
Had an 89 5.0 lx. Fun car that truly could have used suspension work.
So something here. Ford in house tuners at the time. SVO, now SVT, were the first to do the five lug and disk brakes and the handling package on the fox. Minus the v8 the svo mustang was where alot of the parts saleen used to do all those conversions.
Saw one a year or so ago online had a salvage title from a dash fire nice car cheap price should have jumped on it
In 1984 Ford offered the Mustang SVO (Ford Special Vehicle Operations). A 2.3L Turbocharged intercooled with 5 lug wheels and all wheel disc brakes.
Also no mention of the black Saleen fox next to it? It’s 1 of 8 known to still exist (9 were made, 1 was stolen and never recovered) and the most expensive foxbody out there.
Love this series! Do the 280zx!
Such cool cars.
I love this video
1988 423 looking good 👍
I can confidently say that 88-0423 is still doing well. It's in my shop in Tennessee. It's been gone through bumper to bumper and is ready for another 30 years of enjoyment.
Wonder if Eibach still makes their springs
Always loved the Saleens. I’m partial to the the 4-eyed models. Couldn’t afford one in my youth….. Can’t afford one as an adult, lol.
Actually the SVO was the first to do it on the fox body they were five lug and disc brakes all the way around. And that is the exact setup that Saleen used right down to the master cylinder.
It's even more impressive that they were able to get him off the Viniece boardwalk and drive a mustang in Upper Big Tujunga canyon.
Awesome video, I own 89’-152
All white exterior paint, white top with smoke gray ford leather interior, at the moment is sitting at 38k miles on it, what special about this one, when I bought it (years ago and that an interesting story by itself) I noticed there was no decals, no stripes, no badge number up front, no decals on the sides or rear. I called Saleen to see what what color decals it came with, after a long talk with them. They told me good and bad news. They asked for pictures of the car (in and out) and vin number. The vin number didn’t match their documents recorded. One number was wrong. I have all of the paperwork from the day it was sold including the temporary tags to drive it. Long story short, Saleen wrote done the Vin number wrong and they admitted it and send me a letter and new tags. This is like a typo (you have dollar with a misprint, it’s worth more) after this was done, they asked me what was my question, I asked about the decals, that there isn’t any on the car. They told me that this particular car that I own was a factory decal delete car. Confused I asked what’s does that mean, they said if I were to get all the Foxbody Saleen Mustang convertibles 87-93 (which weren’t many to begin with) the car I have will be one of one. Being a one of one, with their mistake on documentation, a letter with tags to prove this, and being a convertible, I think I own something pretty more than rare, and love driving it on sunny days
Ive never drove a car as fun as these foxbodies
....sounds like they're adding in the engine soundtrack from the movie "Bullitt" at points throughout the video. When he leaves Saleen with the car, that's the actual car with Flowmasters.
88-0423 is a very nice survivor! How to I know? It's sitting in my shop right now 😊
show is great because of Magnus dude looks rugged and strange but seems to be a realy nice guy
Fox body stangs. I loved my 92 lx 5.0
Steve Saleen is a bad ass!!!!
My Canadians would know about the Mustang DECH , Saleen seemed to jack the body kit styling from them.
I can watch CZcams videos about mustangs all day lol 😂 😁👍🏾👍🏾
I had an 84 svo it was pretty cool but I couldn't afford new tires for it.
Miss my 82 GT...
We talked about the z3 m coupe last week. Can we talk about the z4 m coupe next?
Fact: The chassis rigidity is only second to Veyron.
Actually, The rear disc brakes and 5-lug hubs were available on the SVO mustang before Saleen started using them. Great video though. Best part is between 6:00-6:06, it's the only section of video where you can hear the car without the generic background rock music. One of the things that makes the foxbody mustang so great is the exhaust note. One of the best sounding cars ever,
Actually it sounds quite generic and boring
Yes they started using SVO 5 lug 4 wheel disc brake setup in 87 and up Saleens. As someone who owned two 85 GT's and a 88 LX 5.0 and now a 89 Saleen. Those brakes are a huge improvement.
MAN I AGREE MY 87 MUSTANG GT SOUNDS GREAT AND MY 93 COBRA SOUNDS EVEN BETTER AND POSSIBLY THE BEST SOUNDING MUSTANGS EVER.
Only issue I have with my 88 saleen is finding the right parts that holds value and probably rusty rocker panels too
One of the eye sore that always itches me is the door frame next to flush mounted clean rear quarter glass. The 2nd one is the 3 piece head light design. Fox body Mustang is a beautiful car and really almost a 911 in terms of looks. But yes 911 even a wide bodied looks clean & lean.
The 1986 911 with whale tail was my dream car for the longest time....until a test drive when the price met my ability...I was so disappointed. The Porsche feels very solid and well built but just could not get over the way the pedals operate, like a VW Beetle. ....and how cramped the engine bay is.Sadly that was deal breaker for me.
BACK IN THE 90S MY 87 MUSTANG GT WAS A PRETTY FAST CAR BUT IF YOU HAD A SALEEN FOX YOU WERE MILES AHEAD OF EVERYTHING ON THE ROAD BUT I DO HAVE THE NEXT BEST THING MY VIBRANT RED 93 COBRA THAT'S SLOWLY BECOMING MORE AND MORE POPULAR AND VALUABLE EVERY DAY AND I HAVE MY 87 MUSTANG GT AND I REALLY WISH I BOUGHT A SALEEN MANY YEARS AGO WHEN THEY WERE A 20 THOUSAND DOLLAR CAR AND A SALEEN FOX JUST SOLD FOR 198 GRAND LOL CRAZY.
This video was too short!!🤦🏽♂️😂🤷🏽♂️ but I still enjoyed it magnus
Ford had (factory) 5 lug 4 wheel disc brakes in the SVO....which was also turbo charged......
And that’s why I’m never getting rid of my one of a kind foxbody
One of the most beautiful cars ever made! The proportions were perfect...
!!Hell yeah!!
All the great work aside, saleen is just a great name for a company.
Magnus in a foxbody nice 👌😃
First fox mustangs to have 5 lug wheels and 4 wheel disk brakes were the SVO Mustangs.
Would love to see Magnus expound on the whole crazy-wild-west-prospector theme by purchasing his Fox Body Mustang with gold nuggets and customizing it with a hitch for a mule trailer.
i like it better in white and blue stripe combination, just like in motor trend magz
Exciting to be able to find 87 saleen parts direct from California not eBay 'most guys with saleens are 60 retired able to drop 50k to make them new again
Waiting for the C4 ZR-1 to show up on here in 3... 2... 1...
This makes me really miss my 1991 Saleen. Stinking 2008 housing market collapse forced me to sell.
Had no idea the OPP guy was an OPS, at least one time.
Mustang 92 is the bad ass car Iwant it hella bad 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It's really impressive that this homeless man knows so much about mustang's
😆😆😆
Seems he forgot his razor when he moved to America
@@TheMijman I wonder if he plays bass guitar?
I'll take mine in white with blue stripes please!
It's too bad Magnus only glossed over Saleen’s history in racing, but it’s all about that ‘Stang! The only old Mustang I want besides Matt Farah’s
the fox bodys are already getting expensive, the next real big thing are special sn95s (saleen, roush and cobras)
Lately I've been thinking of getting one while they are cheap, they arnt the fastest mustangs but clean ones are relatively adorable and soon the clean ones will also be rare
94-98 will be skipped right over for 99-04.
@@mysterycomment1553 94 and 95 possibly could rise because of having the old 5.0 though.
@@Shakerhood69 that generation doesn’t have the same nostalgic value or following the fox body or the new edge has. Sure they might go up somewhat but not to the same level as other Mustangs.
MAN I LOVE THE SALEEN FOX BODY MUSTANGS AND I HAVE THE NEXT BEST THING MY VIBRANT RED 93 COBRA AND MY 87 MUSTANG GT.
Foxes are cool. They’re not fast. But it’s an experience. And you can’t beat the noise. They all sound nasty. Even tho they run 14.4 at 92. On slicks lol oem. But they’re awesome. I went from fc rx7 to dc2 Integra to 92 fox turbo deal. Very cool.
