- I have no idea what she wanted, but she’s super cute 🥰 🥰
Billi is a female domestic shorthair, she's 12 years old, her favorite word is mad. Inspiration from Hunger4Words (check her out on IG).

Billi even attempts to follow their language to better communicate with them and do research
Once again Billi shows off her trained human. Billi has been training her human for 4 years and hopes to enter the human into competition. Many believe Billi could bring home first place this year.
It's you that owns the cat, ya daft bast.
This reminds me of a time when my cat woke me up by settling on my pillow around my head. Then he put his cute little paw on my cheek and did his best to try and pet my face. He was purring so loudly and he was absolutely so proud of himself for petting his Mommy. He's such a sweetie pie.
omg 🥺🥺🥺 too cute 💓
My cat does that too!
probably wasn’t ‘petting’ you, just asking for attention. my cats do the same and they’ll use their paws to reach at me/sometimes even grab my hand bc they want to be petted.
Is that a recent thing? Did cats used to pet their owners?
@@bittyb0t I think you didn't get the joke
Can we talk about the way she raises her cute little paws 🐾 several times to touch mom? I'm about to cry from cuteness overdose
i loooooooooooove her tiny paws!
Cuteness overdose indeed! 😂 Didn't know cats could get any cuter! SHOCKINGLY CUTE TO ME.. VERY SMART
yes billi’s mom is also our mom
@@newabbmantics what
Billie a guy hence the name
That’s so interesting to see that cats perceive us as marking them when we pet them.
Heh, lobe xD
Their noses are much more sensitive than ours, and our skin does produce oils - that's what fingerprints are, for the most part. Who's to say that's not what we're doing when we pet them?
Cats paws have scent glands so when they pat us with their paws, they are leaving scent as well as getting our attention/giving love/needing reassurance.
@@LexYeen
Holy shit you just blew my mind
@@gavart4509 some cats like to sniff, but do not rub cat in armpit
my cat has started doing something similar. when im petting him and hes in my lap, he looks up and raises a paw, like he wants to pet my face, but he does while facing away from me so he doesnt quite get there, so i grab gently his paw and guide him to my face. he looks quite pleased when this happens, and that he managed to caress my cheek. Its the greatest thing i could have hoped.
and it's adorable that he's trying to do it without looking at you, given that cats see a directed gaze as threatening - so he's kinda like 'ok, wanna touch, but not looking. am not being threatening...am I reaching yet?'
Oh lord that is beautiful...i saw one video where a cat stroked the face of girl who was crying
Didn't know cats could get any cuter! SHOCKINGLY CUTE TO ME.. VERY SMART
@@kkibela omg 🥺 i was crying rly hard one day and my cat came over and gave me a lil lick on my arm 🥺
eldardrakeson oh no, he looks directly at me(he just needs to look up after all), he just cant get to my face because his own body is in the way. He doesnt even try that hard to reach me, but even just that it occurs to him 🥰🥰🥰
I was having a nightmare and I was woken up to my cat standing over me and tapping my face really hard with her paw. When she saw I was awake, she curled up by my face and pet me with her paw, purring, then started licking me. It was the most amazing display of affection I’d ever experienced from an animal.
Aww, what a sweetheart of a cat ❤️
i've read somewhere that cats are very social animals while showing it differently from dogs. what they do is mimic what humans do to show that they are a family and/or friend. so this person who works at home speaks to themselves a lot while doing works or chores, and saw one day their cat is meowing to itself while playing with a toy alone. i find it extremely heartwarming. i see billi is mimicking what her human does to her when both of them appreciate each other's presence and make her intention known by "speaking" in human language. it is so damn lovely. i love cats and billi in particular so much.
Cats have gotten a bad rep over the last few decades, but they're so much more social than people think. I think that there are really two major differences between cats and dogs that people should keep in mind when interacting with them.
1) Dogs are pack hunters, while cats are social hunters. The general consensus for years was that dogs hunt in packs, while--since we only ever saw cats hunting by themselves--cats are territorial and "work alone." But recent research says that that's not quite the case with cats. They hunt alone, but in a surplus, so that they can bring the extra food back to the colony for those that can't hunt, like the old, young, nursing mothers, and the sick. That's why outdoor cats will leave "presents" on your porch. They're trying to bring surplus prey back to the colony (you).
2) Cats are in the middle of the food chain, both predator *and* prey. Unlike dogs, who were domesticated many thousands of years ago and are fairly similar to humans in their place on the food chain, cats are firmly planted in the middle. That means that when they encounter something or someone new, their first instinct is to see whether it's prey, predator, or friend. Which means that when you greet a cat, you can't greet it like a dog or human. You need to use your body language to show the cat that you are in that third category. That means don't corner the cat, don't overstimulate it, don't stalk it, don't hide from it or dart your hand in and out like a mouse or bird. Approach it calmly and confidently, without making direct eye contact, always giving it at least one exit route, and offer a relaxed hand for them to sniff (that relaxed hand also serves as the cat language for "May I have permission to pet you?"). Over time, the cat will more and more solidify your place in the "friend" category, and you'll be able to forgo those techniques and be more casual with your cat. Nowadays, I can sprint up to my 18 year old kitty and tackle-hug her (gently cause she is still old and fragile) and she'll just bbbrrrrrpt at me.
Exactly, cats just aren't as good at expressing their affection as say, a dog is.
@@mikkurzhal7390 now I understand why I personally prefer cats over dogs. I often feel like dogs try to make me a friend which I don't want, and that makes me uncomfortable because I find them unpredictable. But a cat seems more cautious like I am. I actually did the hand and eye thing uncounciously to a friend's cat this weekend and after some time he led me pet him, even to the point he was sad when I had to leave.
@@mikkurzhal7390 I think that the bad rep for cats comes from two things: misunderstanding how to raise a kitten and misogyny. The first is probably self explanatory for someone who loves cats. They need space and respect while also lots and lots of love. I tend to give my kittens "tongue" baths when they are little.
The second is probably cultural. But from my perspective dogs are "boys" and cats are "girls". Also, all the bad behavior from cats is usually being "stuck up" etc. (When in reality you probably just arent caring for them properly). Still, I'm pretty sure sexist tropes feed into the cats and dogs debate.
@@mikkurzhal7390 well now my years in middle school of reading the warrior cats books makes a lot more sense XD
This is hilarious. Also very interesting that she seems to be identifying the difference between subject and object
I 100% did not think animals would begin to grasp grammar, but seeing a few videos now where animals put words in novel orders and SEEM to have a guess at what that order means.... they’re so much smarter than we give them credit for
@@deawinter EXACTLYYYY
@@deawinter this!! Im honestly so amazed at how smart they are.
@@deawinter No, they pretty much can't grasp grammar. The idea here is pretty straight-forward: Billie gets rewarded for pressing random buttons and if you really want to convince yourself that he understood something or communicate something to you, interpreting these loosely related words is actually really easy to do. Never mind that we wouldn't have any idea whether animals were to adopt SVO in the first place. Even Koko was barely a speaking Gorilla, at least not in the sense as it was portrayed.
The mechanisms are pretty simple, training through positive reinforcement works for cats, but you can't even make them grasp the relationship between reward and the actual ramifications of doing these things. Animals are great in many ways, olfactory senses and hearing is often amazing (vision... not so much for the most part), but language is highly unlikely to be a trait we can teach pets, not without severely augmenting their cognitive capacity in some manner (and even then there are so many obstacles in the way).
It's more of a result of our anthropomorphizing animals to the point where we readily believe that (likely curated) videos of a "talking" furry fella aren't just random occurrences, but they are. And why not, animals do understand each other in some basic form. I don't need my cat to talk when she's snuggling with me in my bed, her purring is more than conclusive evidence that she is happy, at least until hunger strikes - in which case she will be happy to inform me of that situation as quickly as possible. Buttons used for talking are basically communication with extra steps; it's a fun thing to play around with but not even the smartest animals will come close to understanding the basics of language.
@@minhuang8848 you seem to be forgetting that humans are animals too. Are there pretty big differences between any two species? Sure... but we have observed whales to use language, including names. How long ago was it that we humans widely thought that animals couldn't feel pain or grief? It seems outrageous now, but that was the norm for most of the modern era.
There exists a delicate balance between our own biases and pareidolia and the actual capabilities of our fellow animals. We aren't THAT different from most mammals in almost every way.
You mention Koko being able to "barely speak", but she was estimated to have about an IQ of 85... there are plenty of HUMANS with similar IQ out there. I am also curious if you would have the same objection if Koko had communicated through a soundboard instead of sign language? Does your core argument, that the animal is being rewarded for emulating a random behavior, not still apply to sign language? If Koko knows making this weird sign with her hands gets her handlers to give her her favorite food... does she KNOW that the sign means what we intend it to mean? Or is she just making the sign that rewards her?
The next couple decades will be a very interesting period in human society and development. Whether it is AI or accepting that our animal neighbors understand far more than we suspected, we are very likely to enter a paradigm shift where humans are no longer the only intelligence on the planet in pretty short order.
Consider the ramifications of adopting a pet that understands you. Is it ethical to subject these creatures to procedures such as declawing or spay/neuter? Do we have the right to make that choice for another conscious and intelligent creature?
When she kinda moves away from the pets and stretches to press the mom button like "No! Not for me, for you!"
In Soviet Russia, cat pets you!

It's an old meme, but it still checks out
The ANCIENT RELIC!! i highly appreciate old meme time on a lovely cat channel
Hah! You got me.
It seems that Billi figured out word order, at least for Billi - Pets - Mom vs. Mom - Pets - Billy.
It's a step in the right direction
that's true!
It looks to me like she wanted you to hold your hand still so she could control the pets
Definitely, it's something she's done before recently too.
I think so too. I doubt that she actually meant that she wanted to pet her owner, compared to the other times when she "petted" her owner after pressing the buttons in a different order. Non-human animals learning human language struggle with syntax, so sentence structure, because we have a whole brain region determined to grammar and syntax and they don't as far as I know. So for animals the order, in which they say words/press buttons doesn't really matter mostly. But I wonder whether Billie noticed now that the order of the buttons actually does matter. You don't necessarily need specific brain regions because other regions can step in and do the job instead. It's just way harder. Like someone learning things anew because of damaged brain regions e.g. after a stroke.
I was thinking Billi wanted to bunt her head.

My cat will sit behind my head while I'm asleep and start stroking my hair with her paw. It used to annoy me when I was trying to sleep but then I realized she's literally petting me the same way I pet her.
Oh my gosh!!! She was totally trying to pet you! She was like, not that way! Like this!!! She is def. communicating with you!!! No doubt about it!!! ❤️
I often feel like my cats are petting me back. For example, I usually give them little kisses on the forehead - sometimes Joy gives me a little lick on the forehead back 😹 It makes me so happy that Billi even put it in words ^^
This brought me to tears. My baby used to pet me. She’d reach her pretty little hand over and just pet me. I lost her June 4th (she was almost 20) and then my other baby (14 year old doggy) January 5th. It’s been impossibly hard.

Why is this cat so smart? My cat for comparison when he wants to go outside, runs againts the door twice before starting to meow super loud.
Maybe you should spend time with them and teach them the buttons
@@We_Are_All_Vultures i think its a little too late to start with the buttons he's 5 yo right now. And dont want to put him under 2 much stress bcs he's had some pretty serious surgery already. When he was 1 years he crawled inbetween the tire and wheel well of the car. And we didnt notice until we tried to leave. His spice was disconnected from his hips. Luckily he's mostly ok now just throws his paw out beside him instead of pulling it in bcs his paw has pins running in it wich fixed the position of it.

Then she'd turn around and present her cheek for more pets from me.

My cat sleeps with her paw on my cheek or on my hand. Her mom died because of a fallen ceiling inside of an abandoned house. She and her brothers were rescued right after, poor things were mewling so sadly. She's my sweet little treasure. I named her "Ari", it means "brave". We both don't have our mums and so we take care of each other.

Watching these vids makes me want to get a few of those recorders & a kitty.
Before my cat sadly passed he used to do the same thing, if I was laying on my back he would climb onto my stomach and curl up, then he would crawl to my chest stretch and pet my face then he would start licking my cheek and forehead, it hurt, but in the end he licked my hand a few last times before he passed. it makes me cry to know how much he loved me
Her wittle paws 🥺🥺
This is so cute. When I get a pet I definitely want to do this
Awwww. 😊 I had a kitty who, while I was petting her, would pet me with her tail. I thought this was just her lightly swishing her tail, or that it was just a coincidence, but over time, found that she was mirroring what I was doing to her and if I moved, she would reach her tail to pet me. I was lucky to share a special bond with her as her human during her 22 years. The other kitty we had at that same time (they were a bonded pair), knew I didn't like thunderstorms (they didn't bother him at all) and he would seek me out during a storm, and stay with me until the storm was over. We were lucky to be able to spend 19.5 years with him.
I’m dead from the cuteness! 😖😫😩😵 Oh, Billi! My heart! 🥰❤️ Warm wishes from Minnesota, to both of you!
My little girl does this sweet thing when I pick her up. Shes only 6 months old and when I pick her up she ever so gently places her front paws on my face. Mainly on my mouth. Then leans her head back for pets and goes all gooey 😆 cats are amazing!
