MATCHA 101 | How to Make Matcha Latte (with or without matcha tools)
Vložit
- čas přidán 22. 05. 2024
- In this video I’m sharing with you what matcha green tea is, the health benefits of matcha, the difference between coffee and matcha, and how to make it with or without matcha tools.
SOME MATCHA FACTS:
High concentration of chlorophyll, a natural detoxifier and liver-cleanser
High concentration of L-theanine, which calms the mind and improves focus
Provides energy boost without the crash
Linked to faster metabolism, brain health, and reduced risk of many common ailments
HOW TO PREPARE MATCHA:
- Heat your water to about 175F or 80C. Make sure you don’t use boiling water as it will result in a drink that’s too bitter.
- Warm your tea bowl with hot water (if you want to be extra fancy :)). Discard the water and wipe it completely dry with a cloth.
- Sift 1 tsp matcha into a cup using a small sifter..
- Pour about 2 OZ or 60ML of water over your matcha tea.
- Using your bamboo whisk, gently swipe in a zigzag motion until the tea is well combined. In a traditional tea ceremony, you would sip this elixir just like this.
- You can also pour about 4 more ounces or 120 ml of warm water over the tea mixture and enjoy as you would a warm cup of tea.
-And lastly, you can turn it into a latte by adding your favorite milk of choice (warmed and frothed). I pour a few ounces of homemade steamed coconut milk over the top and add ½ tsp of raw manuka honey.
HOW TO MAKE MATCHA WITHOUT MATCHA TOOLS:
- You can easily add all the ingredients into your blender, blend for a few seconds to combine.
- Alternatively, if you own a tiny frother you can use it in place of a bamboo whisk as well.
- Lastly, you can froth your milk in a french press. Just add your milk of choice and pump it vigorously until you have the consistency you like.

Now THIS is exactly the video I was looking for when researching matcha; in-depth descriptions, a little history, various ways of preparing, personal preferences and why...5 out of 5 people take note lol👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
I am sooo happy to hear this feedback, thank you so much 🙏🏻😊 i like these types of videos as well, more in-depth but not too long.. it was a little test run for us, we'll for sure be making more videos like this in the future! Thank you again for taking the time to write this 🙂
I’m taking a communications class where we talk about presentations and how to convince others using history, statistics, steps, etc. I was watching this video to learn about matcha and realized you hit all the points I learned in class. Very cool!

I love how you use the coffee press! What a great idea! I got some matcha for Christmas and trying to educate myself on how to prepare it properly. This was very helpful.
Hi Angelique ☺️ thank you so much! I love french press for so many things, it really does create a “professional” looking microfoam. Hope you enjoy your matcha, cheers 🍵
This video was so soothing and educational. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, i am so happy it was useful 😊🙏🏻
This is so cool!! I recently bought matcha powder, and it’s honestly the most expensive drink ingredient I’ve ever purchased haha. I feel obligated to prepare it properly with the best technique to get the most out of it!! Thank you for this video!
Exactly! If you go through all the trouble of getting the best powder, you need to prepare it properly 🙂 i really hope you like it, its such a great tasting drink and the benefits are so great 🍵
It was a pleasure to watch and super informative!

Its more of a smooth ride 🚘😄 one of the biggest reason i like it so much!

Great informative video! Love matcha tea! I drink it every morning!
Thank you so much!! I drink matcha M-F and save coffee for the weekends :) those are my “cheat days” as drinking coffee every single day is a bit much for me.
Wonderful and not lengthily wordy. Whew. Now I have a better understanding of matcha and how to drink it. Thanks!
Oh I’m so happy to hear that 🤗 thank you! I’m always worried that my videos are too long 🤪so its good to know!
Wow.... Loved the video. Thank you so much for going in such great depth about everything related to Matcha. I don't need to watch any other video.

thank you for the informational video about matcha, it really helps me so I know how to properly make some good matcha!!
Hi Carmen! I am so happy it was useful 🙂 hope you become a matcha fan! 🍵
Very informative video, thank you very much! I will try to make Matcha Latte with the french press
Oh wonderful, french press is so versatile! Hope you enjoy it ☺️
The quality of your videos is really good :)
Thank you so much! 🤗
Thank you.
You are very welcome! 🙂
Excellent video. I’m still trying to find the balance between whisking with enough swiftness to create foam, but without causing the tea to splash out haha. The way you do it seems so elegant and effortless!
Thank you so much Sean!! I think it's good to whisk it with the matcha tools every once in a while but honestly, I use a tiny blender most times :)
Your matcha latte looks gorgeous and delicious! 😍
Thank you so much! 🤗
What a fantastic video! Love the production value and how you manage to give a short but firm introduction to matcha. You mentioned that you have several cups a day. How many would you say might be too many?
Thank you so very much for feedback 🙏🏻 it really makes me happy to know that you found it valuable! I think 1-2 servings of matcha per day should be fine for most people. however, if you are someone who metabolizes caffeine very slowly (you can easily find out through dna test or just observing your sleep) i'd say make the cut off time 12pm. I know from my own experience, even if i have a cup of less caffeinated tea in the afternoon, my sleep is not as good. Hope you have a great day!
Thanks for ur great video..
I am glad you liked it :)
@@HolisticLongevity I liked your introducing way and filming also but actually my match late i make it with simple way just shaking in glass bottle 😁😁
@@tawfikelalfy2161 that works too :) i’d say the most important part is the actual matcha powder. If you have high quality tea, no matter how you make it its hard to mess it up!
@@HolisticLongevity okay.. can u make a video for oats ?? I have my special way for it too but if you can make sweet video for it it will be great.. good luck my lady 🌹🌹🌹🌹
I’ll look into it, thanks for the idea!
Okay. So I've been making my matcha too hot. Gotcha. Thank you a ton! 2... 3-ish years ago regardless. This is super nice. Super useful. And wonderfully simple to follow. I'm going to make some matcha now. Haha!
I am sooo happy to hear it was helpful! Thank you for taking the time to write this, cheers 🍵 🙌🏻
Agree!!! This was soo good
@@dreawelty thank you so much 😊🙏🏻
I love matcha. Matcha drinks, matcha cakes, matcha chocolate, matcha all-other-candy, matcha ice cream...etc etc
Yes me too! I am a big "matcha everything" person, i recently discovered matcha with chocolate and really loving it!!
I tried it but I didn't know how to make it so I just put it in the milk and blended now I know I should have done better but I really enjoyed it I'm going to try and do it the way the video says.❤❤
Oh great, i'm sure you will enjoy it even more 😊🍵👍🏻
Thanks so much !!!
Its my pleasure Alice ☺️
I just tried matcha in late July. It tasted like spinach and I am now an avid fan. Trying to find a matcha that tastes the same as the one I first drank. It was so green! 😊
It takes some time to find "the one" but once you do, its the best feeling! It took me quite a few tries to find the one that i really liked. Welcome to the world of matcha 🍵 and thank you for sharing this :)
I bought a bamboo whisk to froth my matcha, but it didn't froth that well. Also the whisks started loosing their curl after only one use! Are there different qualities in the bamboo whisks and how can you tell the difference? Mine is a bit too large in comparison to other's I've seen, and I bought it from a specialised tea shop for a fair price (about 20 dollars)
Unfortuantely with budget, I have to stick with culinary grade for my latte's, but I think it tastes just fine! (I do make sure to use high quality Japanese organic matcha though.) I use 1/2 teaspoon matcha, 6 ounces water and 2 ounces milk in mine with some ginger powder sprinkled on top!
Ginger powder sounds like a great addition to the drink, i have to try this too! Yes, unfortunately, ceremonial matcha can be very expensive but if you found the brand that works for you and tastes great - thats all that matters! Thanks so much for sharing and your comment :)
After trying matcha latte a few times without "Matcha tools" and ending up being in love, I got myself a Chasen.. it'll arrive in a few days and I really hope it's worth it ^^
Oh yey, I am so glad you picked it up! I am not sure if it makes a massive difference in taste, but definitely in texture. It makes it alot more airy and fluffy but not filled with airy bubbles (if that makes any sense 😄). And if you enjoy the actual ritual and process of the preparation, you will love having it 👌🏼🍵
SUBBED!
Welcome!! ☺️
Great explanatory video, real 101. But, arghhh, XXX teaspon(s) and XXX ounces/ml of water/milk... Could you tell the g/mg content of matcha for your recipe? Thanks!
I appreciate your video and your Time to create it. Nice editing skills. The choice of music was perfect. Angel from The Bay
Aww i’m so glad you enjoyed the video, i really appreciate it 🙏🏻🙂
Thanks for the info, I’m knew to matcha and want to start adding it to my diet. Now to find which one to get, I hear and have read that it all depends on the color??
Hi Monica :) yes, color is a big part of it! i've tried so many brands through the years, and I personally really love Matchaful and Matcha Kari 🍵
Just got some Matcha green tea k cups. I add honey. It's really good and I may go off coffee eventually.
I think its a good option for that transition since it has caffeine still 👍🏻
I use a small glass jar and shake the tea,it makes a nice froth.I pour it in a tea cup to drink.
That sounds great too!! I think as ping as you have great quality matcha and right temperature, the tools are just extra and good matcha can be made without them 👍🏻
I tried boba matcha it was no to sweet not to bitter I liked it
Oh great, its a fun drink 🙂
Thanks for the video. Can I use the heavy whipped cream instead of milk?
Hi there, thanks for your question! I think it would taste great with it, i haven't tried it myself with matcha but judging by how much i like it in my coffee i think it would be 👍🏻🍵
Please how to made matcha green paste ?
Bayıldım 👌💖
Tesekurler Edacim!! 😊😘

How do you feel about Jade leaf? Everyone seems to have gods things to say about that brand. Thanks!
I just looked into it and it seems very good 👍🏻 have you tried it yet? I'd be curious to know what you thought of it :)
Very informative. My small problem is Im not getting a frothy consistency...But the end result is delicious. Maybe my bowl is too small, not sure
I found the same problem in the beginning and my bowl was not wide enough, leaving no room for frothing so it might be it! You can always try a tiny frother, those are very affordable and i think Ikea sells one for $1.99 👍🏻
when using western style coffee mugs or tea cups, “whisking” with chopsticks creates good bubbles (aka cream)
May I ask what matcha you would recommend as I can't see it in the comments as you said you would post in your video? X
Hi Katie :) I listed my faves in the description box below the video. 2 of my best brands are Matchaful (kiwami matcha has a very creamy, almost buttery taste) and Matcha Kari. They are pricy but there is huge different in taste compared to some of the more affordable I've tried before.
hi..tq for this useful video on matcha..just bought myself matcha and i am a beginner..wondering when is the best time to take matcha..other than 1st thing in the morning on an empty stomach..please help..tq in advance..stay safe..
Hi there! You can drink matcha after breakfast or in the afternoon, or anytime really as ling as you don't have sensitivity to caffeine. Even though the amount of caffeine is much lower than coffee, it can still affect some people's sleep who are more sensitive. Sorry for late response, i just had a baby and will be back to posting hopefully soon 🙏🏻☺️
Can you please advise the appropriate storage vacuum sealed container for matcha.storage. Mostly all of them are not compatible with powder 🤔
I don't have a particular brand in mind but just make sure its an airtight container that doesn't let the light through.
Wow looks so good but one advice don’t use the metal spoon with honey
Very good point, thank you! 👍🏻
It's important to know that ALL matcha products are good from a health viewpoint.
The ratings 'better' or 'best' are about artistic values --taste, fragrance, appearance.
Hi Paul, thats a very good point - all matcha is good for you 🙌🏻 The freshness, proper storage, and processing is very important though. Its a good idea to research the company and make sure matcha isn’t processed with heat, which would greatly reduce the amount of antioxidants. Thanks so much for your comment 😊
Watching this video while drinking beer 😁
Cheers! 🍻🍵🙂
What kind of tea kettle do you have?
Hi Margaret! I have an electric kettle from Cuisinart with temperature controls, very useful as different kinds of tea require different temperatures.
Siyah çaydan vazgeçmek üzereyim 😊
Is there any difference in taste if done in traditional way vs alternative way?
Hi James! To be honest with you - i dont notice the difference at all but i bet the real matcha connoisseur would be able to tell :)
@@HolisticLongevity thank you 😊
What is a good brand to buy?
Hi Katrina! I really like Mathaful and Matcha Kari 👍🏻
@@HolisticLongevity ok thank's for the info
Why is my ceremonial matcha gritty? :( i dont have a whisk so i use a thermos and shake it vigorously. I also don’t use boiling water. I bought it for like 9.5 USD for 50g, I’m in the Philippines so it may seem cheaper because I just converted the price.
Hi there! I think not whisking it might have something to do with it, you don't need to buy a special whisk but maybe you can try blending it? Just with a regular blender or immersion one if you have it. I don't use boiling water either, i usually make it 175F but i think it should not be cold otherwise it might be gritty.
What is the name of the brand in the video?
Hi! I used matchaful in the video 🍵
i drank matcha yesterday from a store now I wanna drink it again but I don't have the powder at home so I'm trying to make with out the powder
huh?? you can't make a matcha drink without matcha
Vibration changes the medicinal qualities.
It's true, but in a very subtle way.
Why would you put medicinal match thru a metal strainer?
You don't have to do it, straining it is totally optional. That said, straining it takes away some of the natural clumps that can form, it creates a pillowy soft and frothy consistency. Most Japanese matcha producers i know of also recommend it. i think making it taste as great as possible is important for people who are struggling with coffee addiction and who are new to matcha.
I made the mistake of trying a matcha latte at Starbucks (my first time). It was awful, bitter and too sweet. (Starbuck's matcha has 30 gms of sugar).😝
I make mine at home now.
😁👍
I know exactly how you feel 😄 i tried it from starbucks before too aaaand.. whatever that was - it wasn't matcha! Hope you try it at home, it will be such a different experience ☺️🍵
do u like yerba mate too?
I do like yerba mate a lot 👍🏻

Can someone help me ? My matcha taste like water and it's not sweet and creamy like people said , It barely have any taste.
Hi there! Just curious: what kind of matcha are you using and are you mixing it with milk or milk alternative or just water?
@@HolisticLongevity I got premium matcha from Japan , i paid 15$ for 20 grams and I mixed it only with water.
Quality was my first thought but seems like yours is good. I usually mix 1 tsp per cup, and i always top with warm milk alternative and add a bit of honey. Maybe you can try that rather than just adding water? It will make it much more smooth and creamy. You can also try experimenting with different brands, some have more nutty flavors and others are more buttery. It took me a while to find the one i really liked, and get the ratios to my liking.
@@HolisticLongevity I made it with milk and it's way better , but kinda bitter so I guess I need to add more sugar
Give honey a try, its makes it so much smoother 👍🏻
My matcha says grown in Korea. Is that bad?
Hi there! I would highly recommend matcha from Japan 👍🏻
Me watching without matcha tools or even matcha tea 👀
Haha 😆 i know the feeling! I hope you get to try it, its so so good 😊
Good thing I don't really drink coffee anymore
Good for you 🙌🏻 I still enjoy the taste of coffee and indulge from time to time, normally in the weekends ☕️
One big mistake is mixing matcha with cow milk. The casein in dairy milk destroy the good ingredient of matcha. Never ever do matcha latte with dairy milk. Unless for your taste but you are wasting money doing so. Quality matcha is not cheap. FYI
Hi Mary! Such a good point, i didn't know that thanks so much for sharing! 👍🏻
@@HolisticLongevity with pleasure. Yes you can do with soy milk, almond milk, oat milk, flax milk , coconut, anything but not any dairy products. Have been on matcha daily for 20 years, learned from researching online.Take care💕💕
Manukah honey
The best!
I think Yame is better than Uji
I will give a try, thank you!
Bummer! I got culinary quality 🙄
Its ok, if you don't enjoy the taste of it, you can always add it into smoothies, cookies, or cakes. If you do get a chance to get some ceremonial matcha, you'll see a big difference in taste 🍵
How annoying 🤣🤣🤣
What is?
