@@nm9688 It's expensive in many countries.
For example, here in Romania you can buy a 400 grams Nutline pistacio pack with 70 Lei, which is about 15 Euros. This may not seem much for foreigners (I don't know, never been outside my country) but that's enough to buy you a good meal at an expensive restaurant.

Haha i have that with coconut macaroons. It used to be pretty well known for it's simple prep and at the time exotic ingredients. To make it:
-whisk together:
2 eggs,
200 grams of butter,
200 grams of brown sugar
200 grams of shredded coconut.
-place them in evenly sized flattened balls on a baking tray on either edible or non edible baking paper and bake in the oven at 200 degrees for 20 minutes (20 balls is the perfect amount for small dots, while 12 gives you nice W I D E macaroons. Otherwise you can also do 6, but you have to flatten them pretty good and usually a hole in the middle)
-finally, rest for 20 minutes
You can't make this shit up, i wish questions on school tests were this simple 💀

Since it's syrup, it has negligible water content and the base liquid doesn't get soaked into a pastry nearly as much as, for example, a water-based cream would.
Thats how baklava is magical buddy
Dried sugar syrup, especially since the one he used is pretty thin will end up pretty crispy

The way dad makes it is different.
He makes a lemon syrup that he pours over it once it is done baking and leaves it in the fridge overnight.

Over here we don't really garnish it but still close to how it is here (Maybe less drippy)! (ive mostly had it with walnuts since that's how we make it often)
as a kid I used to not like it because the first time I tried it was at a house we were guests at and they prob messed it up somehow as it was bitter and just not enjoyable, however after a few years I gave it a try once again because I came to the realization that it could have been just badly made, and yep

@@SamiTheAnxiousBean Greece???
I personally like adding honey in the simple syrup, or even subtituting all the sugar with honey, it makes it tastier and a bit healthier
Unfortunately, it does not make it healthier, honey is carcinogenic when cooked, and at the same time, equal amounts of honey and refined sugar are almost as unhealthy.
@@rcyparisis894 Unlike simple syrup, honey syrup doesn’t need to be cooked down to thicken. By gradually adding hot water in small quantities and mixing, you can adjust the viscosity until it’s at the desired consistency. It’s still a LOT of simple carbohydrates, but it would impart a different and richer flavor.
Honey is sugar and is even higher in fructose how can it be healthier

Hey, could you provide a recipe to make the pastry if you or someone else knows it?
@@elpasa9308 it's "baklavalık yufka" in turkish. you can find videos and more recipes abt it. i will give you a recipe tho.
ingredients:
1 glass of vegetable oil
1 glass milk
3 eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
flour as it needs (nearly 800gr)
how to make it:
first combine all the ingredients except flour in one bowl. slowly add flour as it needs to create a soft dough. then spilt the dough to pieces as big as an egg yolk. you will use starch for avoid sticking while rolling the dough. You have to roll all 40 layers one by one at first but if you get more professional you can roll like 5 of them at once. That's all i hope it helps

@@sgttosun No issued aside from the layering (20-20 instead of 11-11-11 is preferable), which is nonetheless a minor nuance in my opinion. Also, pulsing half the pistachios and keeping the other half intact in large shards would have been a nice touch.
Overall it's pretty loyal to the original recipe, especially with the clarified butter and the addition of lemon juice to the syrup.
Ne yani, hamuru kendisi mi açsaydı 😄
There's a trick
Cool the syrup in the fridge as much as possible without freezing it then pour it on the very hot layers once it's out of the oven
Helps it absorb better so everything will absorb sugar

Short cut: you can just pour the clarified butter over at the end, it goes down to all layers through the slices. You also don't need to put pistachios on all layers either, every other layer is fine.
Shortcut short cut: chug down the lukewarm butter directly while the layers are in your mouth.
It works but its not baklava till you don’t do the whole process cause it never gets crispy enough with the pouring method
i think i saw the feelgoodfoodie lady do this and she got roasted in her comments

This is probably my favorite dessert. My Greek grandma always makes this with a honey syrup and mixed nuts, and claims that the Greeks were the original creators, but I’d assume it’s pretty controversial. No matter what, it’s still delicious
It is Anatolian dessert. Anatolian means Turkish, Armenian, Greek etc.
@Stuff R73 You trying to claim food as completely your own is dumbfounding at best, every food you’ve ever eaten has at least borrowed from other’s cuisines. The fact that you think those are exclusively Turkish or Turkic shows how little you know about cooking.
