Everyone is rightly lauding Victor Borge (and his son), but Marilyn Mulvay was also phenomenal in this. Thank you to all who have commented on the joy this video has brought to you. I took this from a video cassette my parents got when I was a Child. I thought it a worthy addition to the “archives of the internet” for others to enjoy. Seems to me he had a beautiful innocent irreverent quality to the logic of his performance, and he was truly a performer, these qualities perhaps a factor to his timeless appeal. I grew up on the BBC’s Goon Shows, an influence from my uncle. I find the comedy similar to that of Spike Milligan, Peter Sellars and Harry Seacombe - Truly amongst the original greats of comedy, whose jokes have been retold in various ways since, but originated by them. 😊
Mr Borge certainly never needed to borrow his material from any British comedians. Just enjoy a non-British artist without feeling the need to make a claim on them or their material.

I saw him in sun city arizona. Back in the late 80's my favorite are the punctuation song and the progressive number story. And when his son was his page turner! Long live victor!
His humour never wears thin. It's so utterly absurd that it somehow stays fresh for ever. Not sure how that works, but I can't find any other way of explaining it.
Classical music is still popular centuries on. Comedy based mostly upon it is too. The real mystery, if there is one, is simply why it isn't _more_ popular and well known. Everyone seems to want something new these days. New is absolutely no measure of how great a thing is. Imo, quite the opposite, usually. New stuff can be good, obviously. But classics like this will hopefully remain eternal, so that new talent can set their goals high.
Victor Borge...a wonderful pianist & great comedian. I'm 69. My grandmother adored him, as did my musically talented father, Warren who lived to be 97 & heartily laughed at Victor Borge all those years. Thank God for people like Borge who make us laugh!
There was only one Victor Borge. I had the privilege of seeing him in a live performance in St.John's, Nfld in the '70s. He was such a talented comedic performer, but let's not forget the fact that he was an amazingly accomplished concert pianist as well.
I was watching an interview with Victor Borge by I believe it was Johnny Carson. He was asked why he did comedy when he was a world renowned pianist. Mr. Borge asked how many world renowned pianists can you name? They came up with 4 or 5 names. Mr. Borge asked "And how many of them have a comedy act?".
Absolutely brilliant but so frustrating, he is a brilliant concert pianist whom I have followed but only once heard him play a piece all the way through. He took the mickey out of the Nazis so much in 1939, that they had him on their most wanted list, but he escaped to America, which was good for all of us. I still have an LP of him (nearly worn out)
Yes it can be frustrating not to hear a piece all the way through. But I've been told that at the very beginning of each show he would test out his audience to see if they wanted more comedy or music by their response. Then he would go one way or another. When he got so many laughs immediately you knew he was going to go with the humor.
I have a complete DVD of Victor Borge’s 100th Anniversary Edition as one of my precious collections. He’s a classic comedian, multitalented. It’s hard to forget him.
As a little boy in the '60s I had the chance to join my parents for a party at Mr. Borges house in Greenwich, CT. I remember him joking and playing in the yard with all the kids that were there. Really a wonderful gentleman.
@@bethb7965 I"m 64yr and as a child my parents let me watch him on TV one evening - once seen never forgotten - wonderful performance - so funny - loved him.
Ive watched this several times over the last year. It nurtures me and reassures me of a better time. Those truly we the fun years and a life was really more simple. Yes there were those who suffered horrible discrimination, and many healing medicines hadn't been developed yet, but Sunday night was the night when my generation turned on the black and white television and watched the best talents ever. They truly paved the way for every generation to follow but will never duplicate... Its too bad so many young people will never know and cannot imagine how important performances like this were to us, thrilled us, and made us laugh.
That's why we grow old and die. We're in the way of progress, be it good or bad. I can not help comparing it to not having interest in, and knowing what it was like to endure an Indian attack while trying to move into an untamed west. Still, it seems more and more important to me that we should be able to somehow be able to recall and experience viscerally, without the benefit of knowing the future, to be able to experience the agony and the wonders of the past. It would frighten me to be transported to a mideival time to witness the struggle and hardship they endured but, if science ever figures out how to transport us to anyplace in the past that we want, I'm sure it would help to put things in better perspective, and put humanity on a much better coarse.😮
I meet mr Borge when he came to perform at the Gaumont Theatre Manchester in the 60s..I still have the photographs..60 years later….Mr Roy Raistrick was the general manager ..Fabulous days.
Absolutely priceless. True genius. Such a wonderful human being. Laughing to tears- again. Reminds me of his many shows that I watched with my parents, decades ago, who introduced me to him. We would all sit around cracking up at his performances. Such wonderful memories. Watching this, I'm suddenly overwhelmed at how much I miss my parents.
I'm 73 now, but every time Victor Borge was performing o TV when I was little, my father would run to tell us he was on. We gathered and howled with laughter. He was a unique and talented treasure.
My family would gather around the TV whenever he came on. He was the funniest comedian who could actually play the piano. I am now in my 80’s and still enjoy seeing him.I laugh at him today just as hard as I laughed at him as a kid.😂🥰🥰
I never heard of him, before. I was born in '61. Hilarious stuff, and what a breath of fresh air. I just don't listen to comedy much, it is all too vulgar and carnal. I don't find much to have a good belly laugh about, these days, so this was welcome, just to know I can still experience that. The skit at the end, with the opera singer made me lose it.
I remember sitting with my dad watching Mr. Borge once each week. That was about 60 years ago and l saw my dad laughing so hard. I enjoy doing the same now.
This guys content is still so relevent 50+ years later. I was born in 94 only heard of this guy tonight and enjoyed every second of this show. What a legend! The likes of comedians like Lee Evans in the 2000s took a page from this guys book for sure.
Good Heavens it's YEARS since I last saw Victor Borge. He was fabulous then and is seeing him here again. What a absolute treat. The likes of him will not happen again so thanks for tapes.Once again ,a joy to see him again
Whenever I feel down I watch Mr Borge. Never gets old even though we've all seen the skits about a thousand times. And the improve is hysterical as is this episode! I love also when he involves the audience. His humor never gets old.! Even the very young enjoy him!
Thanks. Victor Borge was a master of comic timing, an excellent ad-libber, and actually a very good pianist. Those performances reflected a lot of preparation, rehearsal, and pure spontaneity which few can equal.
My family lived near the Canadian border in upstate NY, and we used to get Canadian TV channels, they showed Borge often, we loved him back then, very underappreciated musician comic in the USA.
I remember Victor Borge from when I was a child. My dad told me about him and we used to laugh until our stomachs hurt. He was brilliant. Modern humour isn't funny at all and what baffles me is that people laugh at it! The greats are no longer with us, such as Norman Wisdom, Morecambe and Wise and Victoria Wood. Victor Borge was unique and his delivery spot on.
I was in grammar school when Victor Borge came to our school and performed (Burbank, CA). It was right after WW2 and he hadn't been in our country very long. Young as I was, I was impressed with his music and his humor.
I haven't seen this for awhile. It came up as one of the suggested videos, so I thought "What the heck -- why not?" I laughed harder than when I watched it the first time. Of all the comedians I like, Victor Borge's humor is not only funny, but there is an endearing quality in his delivery. There's a warmth there that many of the greats don't have. R.I.P. Victor! You have earned it so well!
When I was a kid, I would see Victor Borge on television and thoroughly enjoyed his act. For some odd reason, I thought of Victor Borge while sitting in front of my computer last night. I read his Wikipedia history and then went to watch this video. I enjoyed it immensely! Thanks to technology, others can appreciate the fact that Victor Borge was one great class act!

My parents saw Borge's one-man show on Broadway in the early 1950s. I got to see him at the Valley Forge Music Festival in the 1980s, twice. He was still extraordinary! What a wonderful man!
I met Victor in Montego Bay Jamaica in 1959 and he was as entertaining in real life as he was on the stage. I was very lucky to have met him and really enjoy his humour.
MrCharles960 No I was there in 1959 early in the year just on my way to Panama when I visited a relative of mine in Montero bay who was staying in someone’s cabin and I met Victor Borge and went to the local bar with him and my relative.
Was just talking last night to my nephews son who was reminising about his 53 years as a Piano Tuner and one time he was tuning a piano for Victor Borge and he was sittiing in a room where my nephews son was finishing up with the piano and a lady was talking to another lady quite loudly and Victor was going over a script and he looked at the lady and said,Excuse me.She looked at him and he said "Yes,You.Get the hell out of here!

Keep this art alive for MANY decades to come we all can't let this meme die out.
A genius!....Everybody should know of Victor Borge..Thanks for posting

Absolutely the most elegantly hilarious thing I've ever seen in my life. A pure treasure.
What a lovely man, fabulous humorist and great pianist.
I have a complete DVD of Victor Borge’s 100th Anniversary Edition as one of my precious collections. He’s a classic comedian, multitalented. It’s hard to forget him.
i sold him that piano cost of 200000.$.

As a little boy in the '60s I had the chance to join my parents for a party at Mr. Borges house in Greenwich, CT. I remember him joking and playing in the yard with all the kids that were there. Really a wonderful gentleman.
Wonderful memory!! I am 64 and remember my parents taking me to see him in the 60's.
Just pure entertainment that in it,s own way we do not hear anymore stanleyr1931@gmail.com
Lucky you - what a wonderful experience.
@@bethb7965 I"m 64yr and as a child my parents let me watch him on TV one evening - once seen never forgotten - wonderful performance - so funny - loved him.
Thanks for the memory and the laughs. God Bless you Victor Borge !
This man is one of a kind!! His talent has, and never will be surpassed. May we never forget him!!

That’s great that this replay helps relive precious family times!
I saw him as a young girl in Seattle (I’m 76 now). I have never tired of his humor and he was a brilliant pianist!
I'm 73 now, but every time Victor Borge was performing o TV when I was little, my father would run to tell us he was on. We gathered and howled with laughter. He was a unique and talented treasure.
My family would gather around the TV whenever he came on. He was the funniest comedian
who could actually play the piano. I am now in my 80’s and still enjoy seeing him.I laugh at
him today just as hard as I laughed at him as a kid.😂🥰🥰
Amazingly fabulous ❤
Questo personaggio non è soltanto comico, ma anche , un grandissimo pianista.
Direi un genio.
It's amazing how he can make jokes and perfect play the piano at the same time ... really great artist.
I remember sitting with my dad watching Mr. Borge once each week. That was about 60
years ago and l saw my dad laughing so hard.
I enjoy doing the same now.
This guys content is still so relevent 50+ years later. I was born in 94 only heard of this guy tonight and enjoyed every second of this show. What a legend!
The likes of comedians like Lee Evans in the 2000s took a page from this guys book for sure.
The hilarity is excruciating. My face is killing me! Bravo!!!!
Pure genius! We were privileged to have him among us, thank God for him
My dad an I used to watch him ❤️I miss my dad alot he passed in October in 75
Good Heavens it's YEARS since I last saw Victor Borge. He was fabulous then and is seeing him here again. What a absolute treat. The likes of him will not happen again so thanks for tapes.Once again ,a joy to see him again

Hi how are you doing?
Whenever I feel down I watch Mr Borge. Never gets old even though we've all seen the skits about a thousand times. And the improve is hysterical as is this episode! I love also when he involves the audience. His humor never gets old.! Even the very young enjoy him!
Hello Victoria
First time I've heard or listened to this fellow. I love it... 😁 funny and good piano music...
Victor was so funny as a comedian and could REALLY play the piano.
Well done the lady soprano, for being such a good sport. Beautiful voice.
So here i am in 2022 & its still as funny as hell. You just cant date damn good humour & expert comedy timing 🤣 😂 😆
Thanks. Victor Borge was a master of comic timing, an excellent ad-libber, and actually a very good pianist. Those performances reflected a lot of preparation, rehearsal, and pure spontaneity which few can equal.
He was a child prodigy
Subjective
I haven't seen this for awhile. It came up as one of the suggested videos, so I thought "What the heck -- why not?" I laughed harder than when I watched it the first time. Of all the comedians I like, Victor Borge's humor is not only funny, but there is an endearing quality in his delivery. There's a warmth there that many of the greats don't have. R.I.P. Victor! You have earned it so well!
No smut, no innuendo, no swearing, how can this be comedy?
Genius!
bobanob1967 ? There was some innuendo in places... for example - sticking things out in cold places.
Did you not catch the double-entendres?
"the really long tie."
I'm not sure you know what innuendo means.
@@jasondunn3169 I do, I reckon I must have missed some due to still laughing at other remarks
There are! But they are presented so cleverly without insulting the audience's intelligence.
I was so proud to introduce my children to this magnificent man years ago! Then they showed their children and they thought we were so cool!!
A timeless classic. Grew up with this man. Comic genius

Mr. Borge was an amazing pianist, and conductor! No one could equal him. One of a kind. This man right here.
I had not seen this in at least 20 years . and we are all stuck in the house right now I decided to see it again , and as always its so enjoyable IT NEVER gets old, he was such a genius , loved that man.
Remember to press the like button folks, amazing video, thanks Ross. This man is timeless and classy, it never gets stale. Wonderful. I've been loving Mr Borge for most of my life.
The world lost a wonderful and talented man in 2000 never be another like him, thats for sure absolutely Brilliant. .
My parents saw Borge's one-man show on Broadway in the early 1950s. I got to see him at the Valley Forge Music Festival in the 1980s, twice. He was still extraordinary! What a wonderful man!
Love the man. Victor Borge 50 years my senior. I laugh a lot every time I hear him. God bless him
Victor is the best anything and anyone on stage. They broke the mold.
Now looking for anything he has done, still available. I VAUGELY recall him as a kid. What a treasure.
I met Victor in Montego Bay Jamaica in 1959 and he was as entertaining in real life as he was on the stage. I was very lucky to have met him and really enjoy his humour.
Any chance you were in Montego Bay 1964 or 5?
MY Mother gave me VHS of him and told me if I was ever down to watch him. GOD rest her soul. A jeanou
