I’m currently in a bright orange fill phase with coloring my hair because I didn’t have the time to finish it so I’m taking a break for a few days. It’s a benefit of doing my hair at home, I get to have fun with electric strawberry blonde (that’s my own description) which I would never do as a final color. Next week it will be a normal looking dark auburn, but right now I’m a curly traffic cone.
So many online videos show people blonding color services, it’s nice to see content and explanations about going to browns or reds especially on prelightened hair which is a whole process.

Katie, this was EXTREMELY helpful! But I have a dilemma I need your assistance with! I do my sister-in-law's hair from time to time and recently she needed a MAJOR color correction, banding correction; she had really splotchy hair all over and contrast was from a level 8 to like a level 4, with really warm roots. It was BAD, as she started using different box dyes, different levels and doing things, unknowingly, that she wasn't supposed to lol anyway, this is pretty much exactly what we wanted as the end result. So I went ahead and did a platinum card (except the roots, only some with the really warm pigment, because she has so much) to have a blank canvas and bring her back to her natural level 6/7 dark olivey gold blonde hair. Her hair naturally lightens in parts, almost like highlights, and has a lot of dimension. So I figured this would be it and indeed, this helped us tremendously and I thank you SO so much!!!
However, I did run into an issue that I didn't take into account, and wasn't aware of because I didn't do my research! So she's like pretty much 100% WHITE gray hair from the back of the ears to the front and around 70-80% gray from the crown to the neck. When I did the copper-beige color for the fill, I took it up all the way to those completely white, pigment-less roots...BIG mistake (I think) from my part because as you can imagine, even after going in with the neutrals and some ash, her roots are still VERY warm in comparison to the rest of her hair! And now I'm not sure how to fix it! Can you please help with that?!
(Now that I did some research, I found out gray roots are very prone to pulling those really warm tones? Yes? Especially hers that are completely WHITE. NO yellow or gray. WHITE lol)
Her hair does need to heal/restore as she did have breakage from all the damage (layers and layers, every month for about a year, of different permanent hair dyes, then now the color remover with bleach, then bleach, then permanent again, demi permanent for the gloss...) so I told her to just wait until her roots start coming in again and meanwhile she can do her healing treatments. But I'm not sure how to approach it and what will be a "permanent fix" that yields very low maintenance for the future, where we want to just touch up the roots and that's it. We love the end color of the rest of the hair and DO NOT want to change that. But those roots, which were what we mainly wanted to fix as well, all that warmth she kept getting from all the box dyes...is still present. Not nearly as bad of course, and it's at the same level as the rest, but it's just still really warm.
For reference of my final color (after the fill) formula /what I had access to, really: Schwarzkopf Igora Royal 7-0 on the roots and 8-65 + 6-1 on the rest of the hair, bringing some up to the root as well for that ash from the 6-1 (which didn't do much there). And then a 7G (medium dark gold) from an Ion demi-permanent for that golden warmer gloss (in place of the Vibrance 7-0 you used).
This warmth runs through about 2-3 inches before it goes into the beautiful sandy, olivey dark blonde on the rest of the hair.

I really don't understand why even hairstylists seem to think the one and only definition of blonde is pale yellow- blonde hair literally ranges from a level 10 all the way down to a level 6- true brunette doesn't even begin until one reaches level 5 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

thank you so much. i am so tired of people erasing natural blondes. you either have to be bleached pale or yellow blonde or you get called a brunette. the package even says medium blonde (its not even a dark blonde) and yet people always call it brunette bc to them only bleach blonde exists. im a natural medium blonde but since my hair is very ashy and not yellow i get called brunette all the time. im far from being brunette... its just ashy.

I have a question. I have bleached hair but i havent bleached it all for over 6 months, only the overgrown dark brown roots. And i once dyed my hair purple like 2-3 months ago. Im worried because i wanted to rebleach my roots today and i did like a half of my head but it became really patchy and i became so unsure of the blond hairdye saving it. I want to color it black, because it just stresses me so much but im not sure if i need to fill my hair or not because of my condition and hair history from these 6 last months. If you could give me and advice i will be so so grateful.

I loved both the colours, but esp the end result. I'm fed up with my blonde highlights with the brown root regrowth. So I already knew about it taking two steps to full colour. I bought two box dyes. The first light brown. This came out good at the roots and lighter on the highlights. (I didn't realise orange would be better!) I have a second box dye in a more vibrant brown shade to apply next. I'm now wondering whether I should find an orange shade first? Oh fiddlesticks 😁 Do you recommend toners with box dyes or not?
