    Welcome to another episode of Challenger Approaching! In this series, we cover characters who might be invited to a future entry of Super Smash Bros, then go into deep into detail on how they could be designed if they joined the roster for real!
    This time, our Challenger is from a recent, hugely popular game...but only gets brought up in the context of Smash speculation sometimes. As the first king of Hyrule (in one timeline, anyway), Rauru establishes himself in Tears of the Kingdom as a pivotal figure in his game's backstory and lore. And mechanically--not only is he a powerful user of light-elemental magic, his right arm is literally the source of (most of) the new powers Link obtains in the game! All of which Rauru could tap into for his own moves as a playable character.
    But how exactly could this Zonai sage and king bring all of what he's capable of to bear? How could he combine his nature as a big heavyweight with the right mix of swordplay, magic, and his game's famous hand powers to create something completely unique within his archetype? Watch and find out!

    I think Rauru could have a secret second final smash. Some final smashes will insta kill if the opponent is over 100%… but for this one, it RAURU is above 100% and you use the special button while grabbing an opponent, it’ll instead be his sacrificing seal, being an insta kill for both the opponent AND yourself. A desperate and hard to pull off final gambit just like in the cutscene

    While Rauru isn't my most wanted Zelda newcomer, the prospect of getting Riju as a badass warrior princess with dual scimitars and lightning powers is too cool to pass up, this concept is super interesting and would be a ton of fun to play as. Either way, Zelda desperately needs a new character.

      They need to make the links more unique and fix ganondorf first. Starfox needs a new rep and revitalization before a new anthromorph is included. Then again is may happen at the same time.

      @@PJDAltamirus0425I second this. Give the base Link a mix of BotW's Sheikah Runes and TotK's Zonai powers, along with making him able to use all 3 types of weapons like in those games, instead of just relying on the Master Sword.
      Young Link then could have a moveset based around Majora's Mask, where it *could* theoretically function like Byleth (where each transformation mask is tied to a direction) or just have the masks as the specials, and of course his final smash would be Fierce Deity just going to town, probably functioning similar to Pyra/Mythra.
      Toon Link then could pull from Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks for moveset ideas, like the Tornado Rod, Skull Hammer, the whip, lighting his boomerang on fire/ice, (which can also ping-pong between 5 opponents) and various other items from those games.
      Ganondorf then, would likely have a TotK-inspired overhaul, or be kept in OoT style but with the Trident that his Phantom Ganon creation uses. One of his specials could even summon his scatter shot from his final encounter amidst the tennis match from the actual game.

      I agree but I think riju has a too minor role for that purpose. If that concept is taken it will probably be used by Urbosa. Thought Riju might be a custom skin/echo.

    • @gubsy3730
      @gubsy3730 Před 4 měsíci +2

      I'd argue that Riju has a much more enduring legacy than Urbosa. Unlike Urbosa she was a major character in both games which allowed her to have actual character development instead of being the walking talking plank of wood that Urbosa was, and narrowing it down to her allows them to use some of Urbosa's moves like Urbosa's Fury while maintaining what makes her unique, like the lightning bubble she could shoot arrows into and her dual swords. Also yeah I know it's unrealistic but idc it's what I want lol.

    • @Gigi4u
      @Gigi4u Před 4 měsíci +2

      If they eventually get around to make a nother smash game they need to completely change ganondorfs moveset. Only things I would leave unchanged are his neutral B up and forward smash. His up and forward smash would use his gloom club his neutral B would still be a deadly punch because it is now a canon move he has used on Sonia. All his regular attacks would be gloom sword attacks. His down B would be him charging himself up to get stronger. He would star of dry and mummified bit would progression through 3 stages ending in his demon king form. His final smash should be based on the memory cutscene you get at hyrule castle of him riding ha horse and shooting a massive gloom slash at you.

    • @thomasthecoolkid7228
      @thomasthecoolkid7228 Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@Gigi4u I also had a moveset idea for TotK Ganondorf, but a _bit_ different. The Final Smash will have... spoilers, and anyone familiar with TotK can probably guess what it is just by that.
      His basic attacks (and side special) would use his Gloom katana, yes, but the kanabo would be on his smash attacks. His neutral special would be the bow (turning him into a pseudo-mirror of Link), and the up special would be an aimable dash attack with his naginata. Both his smash and special attacks can be charged, and if he _does_ decide to fully charge them, then they'll gain an additional Gloom effect (like a damaging trail on the up special) and part of the damage dealt by them will become *Gloom damage,* which cannot be healed off by any means aside from getting yourself KO'd.
      His down special, on the other hand, has him build up a gauge, kinda similar to Cloud's down special. Once it is maxed out, he will enter full Demon King mode and, possibly on top of other buffs, _all of his smash and special moves become fully charged by default,_ removing any need to charge any of his chargeable moves. And yes, that does include the Gloom buffs to fully charging those moves, those are on by default too. He can keep using the down special to charge his gauge somewhat slower, as it _does_ gradually drain while he remains in Demon King form, so your gameplay is essentially to get into this form, bully your opponents with a constant flurry of quick Gloom attacks to permanently chip away at their health, and recharge your transformation every chance you get.
      Now then... the Final Smash. He would use the Smash Ball's power to defy his world's rules ("With this power...!"), eat the secret stone, and become the Demon Dragon while retaining full control of himself. You get a targeting pillar on the stage as he lingers in the background, firing off Gloom fireballs (which, yes, do also partially inflict Gloom damage) that fall down from the sky like meteors and drop onto random parts of the stage. Then, he charges down at the stage himself wherever you aim, going through the entire vertical space of the stage as an ultra-powerful Gloom hitbox. After this, he appears back on the stage... _with a full form gauge,_ so if you survived, you still have to deal with a supercharged Ganondorf that's hammering into you with unrecoverable damage.

    • @Gigi4u
      @Gigi4u Před 4 měsíci +3

      @@thomasthecoolkid7228 I personally would make his power up stages a permanent power up that can only be lost if you lose a stock. So basicly you would always try to prevent Ganondorf from progressing through his 3 stages so he won't get to strong early. Ganondorfs side B should be his quick spear charge that if used of stage can impale the stage similar to Sephiroths sage stab. His down smash would be a gloom explosion caused by smashing his gloom club to the ground that covers both sides of him but at the cost of only havinga hit box range near the ground. His bow If changed to stage 3 would shoot 3 gloom arrows that track your motion. His tilt and back air would be using his gloom spear.
      A new ability that Ganondorf and link would get is that wen they air dodge a attack they get a flurry rush slosmo effect similar to Bayoneta and Mithra.

Gannondorf would still be sealed under Hyrule castle. Zelda could get sent back in time like in TOTK, but then Terrako uses his powers to send Link, himself, and potentially anyone else back in time as well, where they fight alongside Rauru, Sonia, and the other Sages.

The complexity of him using his hand powers from Tears into Smash is really genius while also feeling balanced! Honestly, I can't really think of anything that I might would change as I feel like everything you described about his fighting style could transfer over perfectly into the next Smash game (assuming he can make it over while he's still relevant enough)! Oh man this video is awesome. I've actually been internalizing a moveset for Rauru myself, as hes one of my absolute favorite Zelda characters and I think he has amazing moveset potential. What I've had in mind was way different than what's featured here, but I actually like this concept way more
    If I were to nitpick anything, it'd be two things.
    1) I'm a bit disappointed Rauru's little chin rub didn't make it as a taunt. I had it as one of my taunts. It's my favorite character quirk of his, once you notice how often he does it its hard to unnotice
    2) The Final Smash. The big beam of Light is a fair enough Final Smash, but I feel the sealing move he does on Ganondorf is a way better fit. Maybe I'm biased cause it was that scene that solidified Rauru one of my favorite Zelda characters, but still I feel the best Final Smashes are those that are the character in questions most iconic or powerful attack, and it's pretty hard to argue that that Imprisoning scene *isnt* Rauru's stand out moment in the game
    But that's really my only points of contention. This moveset concept is awesome and I'd love to see it come into reality someday. It perfect represents Rauru as a character and seems incredibly unique and fun to play

    I think that the Zonai are still in the main timeline. After all, though the denizens of Skyloft would have moved down to the surface, they technically weren't numerous enough in number to have turned that into a kingdom. So, the Zonai showing up would likely have occurred after Skyloft migrated to the surface.
    Either way, great to see more concepts from you.:D

    • @PJDAltamirus0425
      @PJDAltamirus0425 Před 4 měsíci +1

      ......I get the feeling from the game, with the tablet, that botw and tears of the kingdom happened into the far future of the rest of the timeline. My theory is that Zonai are previous hylian, hell, Rauru, that was originally the old man is original of time. The main zelda ganondorf basically turned himself into a weather event, causing massive famine, the hylians took the sky in search of in the mountains, then the newly goatized hylians founded re founded with the famine surviors on the surface, the barbarian armor set is essentially mad max gear. fish turned into bird people before in zelda, why not humans into goat people? Goats have tougher stomachs than people do. The Calamity ganon of BOTW is the spirit of ganondorfs past live, hence the hair and beard and human face and the turning into dark beast ganon.

    • @joshuana5132
      @joshuana5132 Před 4 měsíci +1

      I personally view it differently. The way I see it, the Demon King Ganondorf is the first incarnation of Demise's curse... but the curse itself exists outside of the incarnation, creating more whenever one fails.
      And Calamity Ganon? I see that as more like a Puppet Ganon created by the sealed Demon King Ganondorf. A way to interact even while sealed, like a remote control Avatar.
      And this actually makes sense in another way. Skyward Sword Link likely had knowledge from the timeshift stones to access to ancient tech, which could have been used by the generations to follow, leading to Rauru's time and the time thereafter that led to the creation of the Divine Beasts. But, though the Divine Beasts worked back then, Calamity Ganon was also far more powerful, leading to the destruction of a lot of that tech and the research stations that created it, leading to the medieval like times that followed due to the knowledge being lost in the war. @@PJDAltamirus0425

    What about letting him use fuse midair to summon a zonai device, like a wing or a platform?
    Also he needs the sealing palm strike, probably as a down throw with massive damage.

    One thing I would have added is the ability to upgrade the sentries themselves via Autobuild if he's right by them and has enough energy, to have tiers of sentries. But, other than that, loved this.^^

    nice concept, but even while watching I thought: "Why isnt Ultrahand his grab?" Was there a particular reasons why that concept was changed? I assume in this version the side-b was to "auto-built" turrets (which could be built on that moving cart like zonai structure to slowyl move towards an enemy). That actually sounds even more fun that the final version imo.

      Agreed. He has a lot more interesting move potential than most wanted Zelda characters. Especially since most of thenmost wanted, like Impa and Midna don't have a ton of source material in the games they actually debut in, usually needing Hyrule Warriors to craft a moveset.

      I agree, I feel like none of the other champions or their decsendants have as much of a chance as Rauru. The og champions probably missed their shot in Ultimate, and none of the new ones really feel popular enough for it, imo. Rauru feels different from the rest of the Zelda fighters and would presumably highlight Totk's mechanics well

  • @seanfulldark

    Even though this character is highly doubtful despite her probably being the best choice to be a new Sonic Rep in smash brothers especially considering you know the wisps being essentially the colors and powers there's that are supposed to rival Mario in the all of his Glee, I'm kind of curious how would Whisper play? I mean the former main scout of the diamond cutters! Then she cut out the competition or will she have some flashbacks of her own to reminds her of her fallen comrades that she fights with the spirits of in a way? I'm sure she can unlock her Wisp?[come on let's be honest here we all know her final flash has to be a reference to persona because good geology wilkers the writers didn't point out that she's also a perfect reference to persona especially with her mask being very reminiscent of a certain phantom thief right fox? Even though she's a wolf]

    Oh boy yet another one time character from the latest installment in a first party game. Unless its a pokemon theres really little reason to expect any other kind of character to be the subject of one of these now.

    • @anotheryoutubeaccount5259
      @anotheryoutubeaccount5259 Před 3 měsíci

      Ok, who do you put forth?

    • @derbear3403
      @derbear3403 Před 3 měsíci

      @anotheryoutubeaccount5259 well just some off the top of my head.
      Phoenix Wright, Sol Badguy, Doomguy, Shadow or Tails, Alucard, Pauline, Akira Howard(Astral Chain), Haohmaru, Midna, Tetra, Lyn or Hector, Tiki, Issac, not to mention 2B which has a recent example of losing to the first party character from the newest release.
      It's not even that I'm against the characters he does cover. And im not saying he has to cover any of the ones i listed. I think it's mainly just getting too predictable. Clearly favoring first party and doubly if the character is from the most recent installment. I've played through most of the zelda games and I just don't think Raruru is as interesting of a choice to make a moveset for as several characters that have appeared through the series. But of course it goes to Rauru because TotK is new. I was completely fine with Noah being the topic of a video. But then he does Mio just a few months later and gives her the same exact gimmick. It would be nice to see the occasional out there or niche character covered to help give some variety as opposed to just new and popular characters.

    • @anotheryoutubeaccount5259
      @anotheryoutubeaccount5259 Před 3 měsíci

      @@derbear3403 Yeah, well, understandably the novelty characters are the hot topic and the centre of attention, which makes them an attractive pick for the roster. With legacy/niche ones you run the risk of Ice Climber status where most people go "who?" Most gamers aren't walking wiki indexes, so they'll pick what they played last.
      The problem with Zelda "representation" is that it really isn't a character driven franchise. All the secondary NPC characters are just as likely to be featured as each other since there is not much to any of them.

    • @derbear3403
      @derbear3403 Před 3 měsíci

      @ryoutubeaccount5259 Yeah that's one of my issues of having this decided through a vote, but Delzin is the one who decides which characters get the nomination in the first place. Plus is that not part of the interest with Smash Bros? Was there no series you were introduced to or learned more about through smash bros that would have likely not considered much if at all otherwise? Smash bros was my introduction to some series like Fire Emblem or Kid Icarus. And its through Smash Bros that i went and tried games like Final Fantasy or 2D fighters. Why can fighter's concepts not do a similar thing? Again not saying it needs to be so common, but having the occasional out of left field or lesser known choice can introduce or further inform people on series they may have never considered much before. I think It would also help the videos themselves as I think it would lead towards a greater variety of gimmicks and styles. It would also be neat even if just for the joke to see it done for things that no one would otherwise think for a smash character like Piranha plant was.
      As for the Zelda point, I understand that. I just think there are other characters that had more screen time or had more defined or unique abilities that would translate to a more unique kit, like a character like Midna would open up for unique attacks in how she uses her hair, twilight themed attacks, or utilize wolf abilities and movement. Fi would be somewhat interesting as you not only have skyward stuff to pull from, but itd be a way to have a moveset based off ballerina movement as is the way Fi tends to move. A Goron or Zora would allow for inspiration from all the appearances and abilities related to their race through the series. A character like Ravio would be a way to have a kit that uses a variety of traditional series items. There's a ton of potential for interesting movesets to see vidoes on, but the way things are, they are basically never going to be realized in Delz series because they are characters from games older than 2-3 years old. that's the part that frustrates me.
