- Testing 14 popular games on the GTX 960 2GB graphics card. Released in January of 2015 for 199$, it was a mid range card based on the Maxwell architecture.
These days it can be found on the used market for less than 50$, but is it worth buying in 2020 at that price? Let's find out!

@assassin ezio hahaha ya but tbh ac Valhalla has more fun than ac Odyssey and has many things to do
That 960 is such a beast! I remember considering it a lot. The 1060 is also a beast! Nvidia, you used to make such good budget cards, what's with all the high end cards you keep releasing?
there are still great budget cards if prices were not so inflated

Got the Strix 960 2GB with 50$ in june '19. If you can't find a RX470 for 60 bucks, stay under 50 & go 960 2GB, or even 4GB with a bit of luck. Around 50-100 US dollars you'll find best performance/$ ratio for used GPUs
Thank you so much for the test. I'm from Russia and I have the same graphics card, but nowhere could find tests with new games. You're the only one who helped me. Thank you so much again. I apologize for the errors in the text if they are present
glad to help mate!
been waiting for this..thanks!
I always wait for your sunday special graphics card test :)
I had this gpu for 5 years now, the 2Gb version. For me is the perfect gpu, in these years I've been playing some variety of games ranging from a bit of Far Cry 4, to 850h of csgo, 500 on tf2 and recently Overwatch in 1440p above 85fps to benefit from my 75Hz screen. Nothing to say about it, it has been beautiful, veeeery silent and cool, I chose a custom fan profile that ramped up only when reaching high temps and I never got above 75 with it still being quite (other components set the noise much higher, so I couldn't really hear it at all). For esports gaming it' more than enough, and it's worth mentioning that lately I've been into streaming (especially ow) and I've been able to upload a crisp 720p60fps with 6000kbs of upload (thanks to my connection, but the graphics card handled it really well) with no dropped frames after a lot of tweaking in obs and in ow (capping the frames to 85 in order to let some room for obs to use resources as I used Nvec as the decoder).
Conclusions, if you don't set you standards too high, you're a "retro" or not so up to date gamer (csgo and tf2 are pretty old now), I should highly recommend this gpu, if you can find a bargain on it consider purchasing, it's well rounded. As you said the 4gb version should keep up a bit better with new games but I personally never tried. Hope I helped someone that was struggling to make a choice, have a nice one :)
quick question, i’m getting given one of the 2gb ones like the one you had as a first proper gaming pc to be introduced into it, but i’m struggling on what to go for monitor wise, been looking at msi optix which is 165hz (i am by no means knowledgeable on any of it), wondered if i’m better going with something that’s 144hz, considering the fact i would probably upgrade in the future - thought i’d ask as i see you used one that was 75hz, many thanks thanks in advance 🙏🏻
@@mattwilson8843 Hi Matt! Hope I can help. The refresh rate really depends on the games you're planning on playing, the gtx 960 can't push that many frames in super modern titles, but if you want to play some competitive games such as the ones I mentioned in my comment, you could benefit from a 165hz display, I'd say that 144hz may be more reasonable as this gpu usually doesn't hit those number constantly if you play 1080p/2k. I guess if you find a good deal take the 165hz one but there's nothing wrong with the 144hz one, if it's your first gaming pc you will still get stunned by 60hz for the first while. Have a good time playing!
@@gerolori thanks so much for your reply, i ended up going with the MSI Optix MAG272C, always nice to have a bit more than what you need, did a lot of research over the past few days and it looks a good monitor! my plans initially are to play some older games like you mentioned, as i do have a series x, really excited! thanks again for your help!

i’m currently using the 960, and i’ve had my pc for atleast 5 years. it’s insane the frames it gets in some games, i swear i got a used one aswell because i only paid £70 lol
TF, I was searching for this exact GPU right now and somehow you made a video on this very exact moment!
Thank you!
I bought this card in Q4 2014, still have this card till today 2021.
For game pre 2018, it will work just fine. latest AAA game i need to set the settings lower for those sweet fps.
960 still a beast !
AAA games suck dick anyways, unless they're made for all types of consumers in mind (e.g. Fortnite, Apex, etc.). Games like BF2042, Cyberpunk, and many others aren't worth your money unless you have premium hardware, and I would even argue that BF2042 is a game that no one should be buying in 2022 lol.
Either way I'm probably just gonna be emulating games, so I just need a cheap GPU that can run stuff like BOTW.
For a 2015 graphics card this runs surprisingly well!
I have gtx 960.Thanks for the video and it helped me to run latest games 2020

21:12 "These new comers are getting smarter and smarter everyday" Honestly one of the funniest line I have heard in a while( with context)
For the waterfall in apex legends, you were suppose to go in it. That particular area drops your frames by a lot

Just bought this exact same card today lol. Playing Forza Horizon 4, medium to high settings at 1080p and getting a solid 60fps 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Still rocking this card myself. Decent little things.
Really worth, principally for people who don't mind play 720p, it will gonna work ok for the next 3 years
Are you saying this graphic card can run games like resident evil 8 village on HD low graphic
@@baderal-nahdi1404 cannot really say i didn't see the specs, but i think it could rund 720p at 30 fps
@@baderal-nahdi1404 Capcom games are usually very optimized, so I would not be surprised if RE Village gets 30 FPS in low settings
You are very lucky. You saw all Pubg's bugs in one match :D
Those bugs you are experiencing in Valhalla and odyssey are due to 2gb vram. The only fix I know is to go to bios and disable all pci-e x16 slots except the one in which the gpu is plugged in. That makes sure that slot is working as fast as possible. I had the same issue with my 2gb card in ac origins.
im about to make my new pc and im gonna used this graphic thank this week thank you for making this video i very appreciated

I managed to play and complete shadow of the tomb raider with a HD 7750 2gb ddr3 model, it is surprising what you can get out of old cards. I had to use low settings and use a bit lower than 1080p to get about 26 fps but still, I am proud I managed to do it.
Maybe do a 1660 super video next? Love your content whenever you upload i always watch it.
i never buy these gpus but i love watching the benchmarks😀

I'm working on building my first PC. I know, great timing. Anyways, I got an HP GTX 960 2GB Aries that I bought from my uncle for $35. Yep, it does, depend on what you may accept but with a ryzen 5 it works very well and streams at the same time i game. This was a solid card so it runs well in most games . If you want to play high herz this is perhaps a bit old now but if you as,many still have 60 hz lcd screens and instead bought a good rig ( most dont switch screen if t it is ok) it is never bottlenecking.

@@linhza501 add the taxes in other countries and everything and it is 100% accurate. In my country i have to pay 400$ for ryzen 5 5600x, and most people here earn ~600$ monthly. Building a highend ryzen PC in this shit hole is equivalent to working for a whole 2-3 months and not eating anything. Intel and cheaper parts make more sense for me, as i just have to pay 190$ for i5 10400f, and I cant afford rtx/gtx 2070/2060/1660/1650 at all. Because of that gt1030 is often all i can afford and this is better than nothing or starving for a better gpu. Whats worse, games are priced the same as in the other, well developed countries.
