  • "All bets are off every time you decide to take that substance into your body: there is a good chance that something terrible is going to happen in your life. And that's something you can't control." - Rich Roll
In this clip from episode 668, Adam and I discuss the "alcoholics paradox" and what it looks like to navigate addiction and recovery when you have a future treatment date planned out. Should you get sober now and step into treatment as the most sober person possible? Or should you wait until you can get into treatment?
Thank you for calling in, Nathan.

It's not the fear of being drunk it's the fear of being sober the anxiety is what he is hiding from, with booze , child hood trauma is usually the cause , approach the core of the problem , gabor mate is a very insightful man and worth a look I believe you will be fighting the wrong enemy if you don't approach the anxiety first best of luck

I love the way that you are able to show two sides of that decision and to play the tape through I had many slips I am working on 6yrs of sobriety. I am also getting a diploma in Holistic Addictions Counseling that implements a spiritual Native context that empowers identity gets rid of the shame and educates you on why it is important to honor spiritual principles very similar to the 12-step program of AA. Thank you for this content I am exploring ways that can further the cause by learning from both perspectives that would merge and uplift my people from the depth of colonial oppression by bringing to them honest content without anger , and come from a place of respect. My hands are raised to you AHO !!

You do a fantastic job with your podcasts and the subject matter addressed, thank you!!
It appears that you may have quit doing them since it’s been a year without a new podcast. I hope you choose to continue on helping people with your gift on this platform.

It’s such a better world without the booze, boozy friends, and distracting gossip that circulates that culture. It’s such a good life when you step away from all of the chaos you just have to push through the moments of isolation and separate yourself with a better perspective on the booze cultures. Not that it’s easy it’s not easy it is just absolutely worth it. Get into a program get your branch chain amino acids do not screw around

Just remember AA is not the only way. 10 years in LifeRing is amazing for me. I liked Smart Recovery but since I moved and covid that is off my schedule. Recovery Dharma and secular recovery is also great. AA can be good but sometimes the dogma Bill W wrote about is dangerous. A sponsor takes you through the steps. He or she is not your life coach or spiritual guru. Do what works but god whatever that is, is not needed. If you believe in god and it keeps you sober go for it.
