- For Rich Roll, being unique “Rich” meant feeling out of place. This led him down a road of drug and alcohol abuse and the rat-race of entertainment law. In his early thirties, it all became too much and Rich decided he needed to change. He quit his job, stopped using, and even committed himself to a year of celibacy. He began to rediscover what it meant to be uniquely him.
On this episode of On Purpose, Best Selling Author and Ultra-Athlete Rich Roll and Jay talk about navigating self-destructive practices, gaining wisdom from those closest to you, and pursuing work and activities that make you feel the most uniquely you. Please reach out on Instagram and let me know what makes you the most unique with #UniquelyMe!

I am so impressed with Rich's ability to articulate his thoughts in such a clear and concise way. The combination of wisdom and clarity in Rich's responses to Jay's questions are inspiring. Huge fan of this podcast!

It is truly amazing that most of us walk this planet Earth, being a fraction of what we are capable of being.
truly sad
and can modify that narrative at any moment 🤩🙌🏽
This is why a great podcast host who asks good questions matters. I love when Rich goes on like this.
I discovered Rich Roll via an episode of the Tim Ferriss podcast. I really appreciate that Jay asked great and unique questions that inspired unique answers.
Rich, the freshness and uniqueness of your answers speaks volumes about you, always a pleasure to listen to you. As opposed to Jay Shetty, you are the real deal and it's apparent the difference in this interview.
It’s all about detachment. Be willing to drop your desires and let the universe pick them up and return them to you🙌🏽💚

I'll be listening to this again. So many amazing wisdom nuggets.
With every Rich Roll interview, man.. this man has depths, and rich expression to articulate some very deep lessons that I can def identify with and struggle with and discover for myself but was never able to process like that or even have the time to think about putting into words like that throughout my tiny journey on this earth, he really continues to inspire me. Thank you jay for being such a great interviewer where you navigated this amazing character so smoothly and with that level of depth that this man deserves
Thanks Jay & Rich for sharing this, amazing conversation. If the sentence completion was not prepared ahead of time, it was incredible how fast Rich answered and what was the quality of the answers. I had to write it down for myself below. Rich, this is gold :)

This was insightful. Love how he respects & admires his wife & family. Boosts me up for my upcoming Ironman & training for it amidst the pandemic!
Need more Ironmans in the podcast to understand their mentality of being an athlete Jay.
Your job is to love your kids it's not their job to love you.....love ❤ 💕 ♥perfectly said.
Rich, you have traveled a long journey accumulating wisdom along the way..I have learned and agreed with many things you spoke....love yourself...continuing to learn daily...thank you for sharing...and. Thank you, Mr. Jay for your questions and I can see you improving with your delving into the what you are seeking to do....good job!
One of the few interviews i did watch it till the end. Rich, really sounds like a genuine and down-to-earth human being.
Absolutely love this man . He is such an inspiration on so many levels - Thank you so much for bringing him on . 💕
This makes me think that it was actually a gift not to have received the "manual" for living. It is tough to be present in uncertainty in every moment, but a gift just the same.
Hi Peggy - One thing I teach my clients to help them develop a stronger success mindset is to know fear is because of the unknown. The beauty of knowing we're entering uncertainty is it means we're growing and getting to a higher level. The more we encounter this cycle the quicker we achieve our goals!
Thank You Jay 🦋🦋. This conversation was so enriching. I needed this motivation.
Thank you both (and your beautiful spouses) for being out there.
hey jay thanks fr taking the responsibility to make my dam life to the level best♥️🥺

It's a great story. I see myself in it a lot. I was never that kid that good at sport when I was in school. But later I was able to complete half marathon when I trained myself. I saw lot of improvement in myself. Now I m lil down but this video does push a lot me in doing things differently.
What a fantastic podcast episode. Both Rich and Jay are aware individuals who are willing to display vulnerability and trying different paths. Beautiful questions and responses. Thank you!!! Hat’s off!!!
I learned more about how to live life with internal meaning despite external expectations, from this podcast, than personal experience over the previous 25 years.
Beautiful work guys!!!
My 14+yr old daughter is my best teacher
Believe me Jay no preparation is enough to be ready to be a parent. Dive in with no prep will be wonderful some days pleasant and some days your climbing the wall

Hey jay..

And i'm grateful too for all those ideas and wisdom in the book "think like a monk" i really loves to read especially whenever i uesd to get anxious and over Drained ... I often calls it A book of peace , which helps me to resolve myself ..
Really i'm very grateful for it.
This is brilliant. A great lesson on human psychology and utilise it to live and create a fulfilling life! 😀👍

Such an amazingly inspiring podcast. Thank you both so much for sharing 🙏🏼
Thank you Jay! I enjoyed it a lot to watch the both of you, as I've been listening to your podcasts for a long time :-)
One of your best interviews. Thank you Jay.
An insight I had recently been how can we accomplish or set up systems in our life with the least amount of steps or items to do it. For example, if you are making a meal, what are the least amount of ingredients you can use to make it taste good and still remain healthy. If you are designing a home, what are the most important features without all the extra, even if the extra is nice to have. It also may be as simple as if you are folding clothes, what is the easiest simplest system that you can create to accomplish organizing and folding your clothes. Less is more and simplifying anything and everything as much as possible will save you time, money and lower stress.
THANK YOU!
14:24 some of the most useful words I can hear 🙏❤️💪

My favorite podcasters together! Is it my birthday? haha
Well, I've been thinking of diversifying my knowledge of making money and investments, I look forward to trading bitcoin and making it an alternative source of income.
Thank you Rich Roll for sharing your own experiences and story....I have heard you speak before obviously on your own podcasts but I still think we are lucky to have people like you who share openly and offer to others some pointers and guidance on a path that it is so easy to get lost on and as you say taken down some deep dark paths.
I thank you once again for your openness and courage in sharing, many people still hide away and openness is the antidote to the shame so many of us feel and sense of alienation that is so common in our society
That accent is so strong brother 😵
