- Learn how to install a set of rear lowered king springs as I show you how to install some onto my 1998 V6 VT Calais but this video will work for VT, VX, VY and VZ Commodore.
I would recommend using Facebook marketplace, gumtree etc. to pick up a pair or set as it's usually cheaper but if not here's a link to a pair.

Undoing the park brake causes that whole section to drop without having to loosen any bushes apart from the shock bolt. May still need compressors if you have heavy duty springs.
Mate i watched this video and because of your scissor jack trick you saved me from burning my vy to the ground 👍 thanks heaps
No problem, I know it’s not the correct way but what ever gets it done ahahaha
Very informative video mate, thanks heaps.
no problem :)
@dismissedtub6717 hey mate I'm not sure if you did this or not but if you take the handbrake off the whole assembly should collapse a little and you can wiggle the springs out. Good video though
Great video
if i thought of using the scissor jack when i did this on my car, i would have saved 3 mental breakdowns
Ahahhaha I know it’s not the correct way of doing it but if it works it works.
Thanks
What size springs were they?
the lowered springs put in are KHRL-46SL
@@dismissedtub6717 Aren't the 46 for Club sports and if you have IRS ? Isn't the 45HD the correct one for the VX Calais Series 1 ?
@@amounifnd if you go onto king springs website they say 46 for ultra low kingsprings.com.au/catalogue/vehicle/304/holden-commodore-vt-vx-vy-6cyl-sedan-1997-7-2004
Called a swaybar link 🤦to get them out without much stress, another jack under the shock rest makes it easier
Is it worth it to pay someone to just chuck em on for you at shop?
it could be worth it depending on how much they are charging/if you want it done professionally for peace of mind.
@@dismissedtub6717 yeah I’m lowkey stupid so I don’t think I’d trust myself lowering the suspension
@@benjFPS that's all good man you gotta start somewhere, i only recently started doing work on my car and it is quite intimidating to work on it without help or any knowledge. So i only did small jobs here and there to build my confidence, thats why i started just doing these videos to help people learn and even get told if i did something wrong in the comments.
@@dismissedtub6717 Yeah exactly, like I just bought a dinky old subwoofer and amp, I’ll probs have to throw myself in the deep end and just figure it out. Only way to learn I guess 😂
@@benjFPS goodluck with that, i cant workout wiring stuff for the life of me. tried to put in a new ciggy lighter for the car because it wasnt working come to find out someone before me has spliced into it with a random cable lmao
You don’t need spring compressors , I noticed something about your car you don’t have rear tie rods someones removed them
Series 1 VX didnt have them. Not IRS. Thats why camber kits are needed even just for the bigger wheels.
@@amounifndif you don’t think that is Independent rear suspension you need to update your Automotive training
What makes you say you don’t need spring compressors? I’ve got a S2 VT Exec, got all the parts to lower it, was wondering if I ACTUALLY needed spring compressors or if there was an easy way to get the stock springs out. Front and Rear?
@@benjFPSif there was an easy way why would anyone bother with spring compressors at all lol
@@cpzmelbs idk man, alot of people in videos i see just dont use compressors, the videos just cut then stock springs are out. I swear ive also seen a comment somewhere that mentioned an easier (still somewhat finnicky) way of getting stock springs out just by taking something apart but idk.
Wow,you made that look painful, you don't need to undo swaybar link, you also don't need spring compressor, if you read a manual you undo the six bolts on the axle where it bolts to hub,it let's the suspension arm hang down enough to get standard springs out,if you already have lowered springs in their you just need a lever to push down arm,if you lower it more than an inch you should probably trim the bumpstop, but if you keep calling swaybar link that things it might be to big of a job for you
you don't learn anything until you give it a shot yourself
@unclesmate that's bullshit, there's service manuals to read (if you can),you can ask other people that have already done it,there's often multiple videos on you tube, there's the commodore forums
If you don't know what you are doing you shouldn't be making instructional videos
@@stevennott6139 personal experience always gets you further than reading opinions off forums, I get what you mean with the manuals although. I take information I get from the forums very lightly, opinions i've gotten from everyone on the commo forums have varied heaps and its hard to see whats right. but old mate is just enjoying what he does on his commodore ha. thats my point. take it easy mate
