They didn’t attack him because he was close to death, he wreaked of infection and smelled like decay, the walkers knew he was infected, they knew he wasn’t apart of the living any longer.

He had to have a spin off. He was too great of a character. He would have drawn focus from Rick and Daryl. They put him solidly in the fan base’s hearts with his back story.
Except his Aikido sucks and he wields the staff like a beginner pro. They could’ve gotten another black male that is skillful in martial arts at least. Just his stick fighting against humans is non believable and poor choreographing.
Just watched this episode for the first time last night. the last two seasons were a real slog but this episode alone was such a fun, refreshing watch. im so excited to watch season for which has been a first for some time now

They also don’t care if their target is alive, so long as their flesh is still relatively fresh, as they’ve been seen to eat people or animals already dead. They likely just thought it was a neat little parallel and used it for promoting the season, but there’s no significance beyond that.
