  • Hey everyone! I wanted to share my 2022 offroad trip to Black Mountain Off Road Adventure Area in Harlan, Kentucky. This was a trip that was planned out with a couple of other Hummer guys. In total, there were three Hummer H3 Alphas and one Hummer H2. We did have a CV axle break on one of Hummers but we were able to change it out no problem. It was a great weekend for wheeling and the weather was perfect!
    If you like what you see in this video and have a Hummer, The Hummer Club Inc. does put on a Hummer event every year here at Black Mountain. Typically the event is planned sometime between March and and July. All Hummer Club events are posted at the beginning of the year in January. Black Mountain 2022 has already taken place this past March, but be sure to look out for Black Mountain 2023, by checking out The Hummer Club Inc’s official website for event details: thehummerclubinc.com I hope you guys like the video! It was a great time and I hope to see you attend a future Hummer Club event!

      In terms of my lift, I have a combination of things:
      - 4in Rancho Lift Kit
      - 1in Daystar Body Lift
      - Front Torsion Bar Crank
      - Rear Shackle Lift
      - Custom rear air suspension
      - 38in tires
      Unfortunately Rancho stopped producing their 4” lift kit for the H3 in 2016. The only real way to get one now is to buy a H3 that has one and swap all the lift kit parts over to your H3. Sometimes people will sell their Rancho lift kits on Facebook, the forums, craigslist, etc if they are doing a custom suspension setup on their H3 and they no longer need it but it is rare.

    Great ride! The axle shafts of the H3 are weak. especially when the corners are large due to the lift. I also broke a couple of axle shafts on my H3. I had to let go of the torsion bars. But I have 33 tires, and here, apparently, 37 are installed. The load is too much!

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  Před rokem +1

      Yeah the H3 CV axles suck. I have had good luck using the OEM AC Delco ones. Any cheaper aftermarket versions tend to break a lot easier as you can clearly see in this video lol. Yeah every time we go on a Hummer trip somebody's CV axle always breaks 😂.

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  Před rokem

      @@hummerownersofamerica If you are referring to OEM replacement suspension parts, then yes I don't like cheaper aftermarket replacements. When buying critical vehicle replacement components that are necessary to make the vehicle function properly, I always recommend going with GM Genuine Parts/AC Delco because they are the best quality and strongest. In this video, my Dad put in a replacement CV axle from CarQuest instead of GM Genuine, which is a private label Advance Auto Parts brand. The first time he took his H3 offroad with it, he broke it. If he would have put in a Genuine CV axle it wouldn't have broken. Now if I misunderstood you, and you actually were asking if I like aftermarket suspension upgrades, the answer is yes. The only thing that I don't think you need is a aftermarket torsion key install. Your OEM ones do the same thing.

    Looks like several of the H3's have the Rancho Lift Kit. Do you know of any other companies that "CURRENTLY" offer suspension kits for a H3T? Suggestions beyond a leveling kit/Torsion key ? Will the Bilstein 5100's provide enough suspension for such a trail?

    • @wolfgang_h3t
      @wolfgang_h3t Před rokem

      Heyo, I have an H3T. the back is easy, rear lift springs exist (and are much better quality then oem), made by old man emu, you can also do a spring over axle conversion. The problem is the front, and the short answer is no, there is nothing in the aftermarket like that. Closest I remember seeing was someone using body lift pucks as a makeshift diff drop, might let you crank the bars another half inch to an inch. Anything more is gonna require a custom setup.
      As for the 5100s, they keep up with my rear, even when my sway bar links can't lmao. And I believe people run them on the rancho lift without issue

  • @supersoni126
    @supersoni126 Před rokem

    Edit: I just realized they’re bilstein shocks but my question still remains 😅
    Hi! I’ve recently gained interest in the H3 line up. my wife and I think it would be a great upgrade for our growing family.
    I can’t leave anything unmodified, with that being said I’m already looking for suspension mods for when I decide to make the purchase on a hummer 😬
    I noticed in one of your videos you or your dad has fox 2.0 reservoir shocks? At least I think that’s what I saw.
    If you do, where do you find them and/or what vehicle do you buy them for ? Are you running reservoir shocks in the front as well?
    I’m not huge into crawling, more into fast driving. Fire roads, beaches, dunes etc.
    But unfortunately can’t find anything better than the fox 2.0 non reservoir shocks.
    My goal is to maximize UP travel so a one inch body lift as well as a bit of a torsion crank with rear shackles
    Possibly cut out the factory bump stop bracket and fabricate one that’s and inch or so higher(if possible) to gain some up travel without slamming the tire into the fender.
    Anyway, loving the videos so far and hopefully I’ll be rolling around in my own h3 here in the near future.
    Cheers

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  Před rokem +1

      Yep its a F650 Supercrewzer. They sold about 300 of these for a year. It's designed to be toy hauler to haul your boat, RV, or cars. Basically it was an unfinished chassis and this company in Kentucky made the custom rear bed for it. Its very nice on the interior. It has the same interior that you would find in a Lincoln Navigator of the time period. Leather seats, woodgrain dash, carpet flooring, power windows, and speakers. It has a Caterpillar 3126B I6 Turbocharged engine with an Automatic Allison transmission. These types of trucks are in a lot better condition than other F650s from the 2000s because this is not a commercial vehicle. Its a tow rig that you use like 4-6 times a year when you go on vacation so its in great condition and hasn't been abused. 😁

The setup has worked very well we have been on 7 trips with it so far and it has worked perfectly. The truck has a 60 gallon main tank and a 60 gallon Aux tank so we are able to drive all the way to our destination without stopping. The only thing I have noticed is that the truck does loose some speed climbing up steep hills but so do other semi trucks we see out on those same hills.
