    Question, I found two types of smokes side makers. One is a led turn signal and the other is just a smoked plastic lens. I picked up the lens because I not the best at wiring. Do you know if I have to buy different bulbs?

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  Před 2 lety

      If you bought the LED version, you do not need to buy anything. The side marker will have a harness inside of it that you plug into the side marker socket. If you bought a clear/smoked side marker that does not have LEDs embedded into it, you will need a new bulb. The bulb you will need is an Amber 194 bulb. The stock 194 bulb in the H3 is white and uses the Amber side marker to get an amber color. Since you are using clear/smoked lens you will need a 194 amber colored bulb in order to get an amber color to maintain legality.

    Great video 👍question for you I noticed you have a real vented hood louver on your H3 have you had any issues with it with rain/dirt etc going to your engine?

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  Před 2 lety +1

      I haven't had a problem with rain ruining anything in the engine bay. The engine bay really isn't made to be water sealed, so getting mud or water in there doesn't really hurt anything. If you are going through some deep water or mud you get mud and water in there irregardless if you have the real hood louver or not. But yeah the hood louver is an essential upgrade for me because it helps to expell hot air from the engine bay. My H3 gets pretty hot when wheeling so it is very nice to have. Check out Runcool Hood Louvers. They are the ones who make them for the H3.

    Hello 👋
    Is it possible to put a h3 5 cylinders 09-10 front differential to a H3t alpha ?
    I have a hummer H3T alpha 2010 and my front differential doesn’t work any more, what can I do to fix my problem? I tried on looking for all the parts of the differential and fix it but I couldn’t find all of them , and I was looking to put a front differential from a H3 5 cylinders but i don’t know if that’s possible, what can I do in my case?

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  Před 2 lety

      You can technically put a front diff in from a I5 H3 into your Alpha, but the I5 H3 has a different gear ratio than the Alpha. The I5 H3 comes with a 4.56 gear ratio while the Alpha comes with a 4.10 gear ratio. So you would either need to change front diff ring and pinion to have 4.10 gears or you could change the rear diff to have 4.56 gears. If you want to run larger size tires and go offroad I would reccomend you change the rear to a 4.56 gear ratio. Whatever you do, you need to make sure you are running the same gear ratio in both diffs. Also I would only reccomend you run a 2009 to 2010 I5 H3 front diff because they are made from cast iron. The I5 H3 came with an aluminum diff from 2006-2008 and it is weaker. All Alphas came with cast iron differentials. You can tell the difference between the two pretty easily. The aluminum one will be a grey color and the cast iron one will be a black color.

  • @zrig1
    @zrig1 Před 2 lety +1

    So I keep hearing this phrase BTM in Hummer videos. I get it stands for brake throttle method. This is something that works very well in the H1 with torsion sensing diffs. I don't get how it works on open diffs? No need for BTM with lockers. Explain, please.

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question! So BTM in general is definitely a common technique used on the H1, but less so on the H3. This is actually a debated topic amongst H3 owners if it is an effective method. I can say that this method is less effective on an H3 in compared to an H1. With earlier models of the H1, they came standard with torsen differentials which is kind of like an aggressive Limited Slip Diff instead of locking diffs. It wasn’t until later in the H1 model years did AM General offer factory lockers for the H1. Therefore using the BTM method was critical for a lot of H1 owners to keep traction to all 4 wheels so your wheels with the least traction wouldn’t spin fast. All Hummer H3 model years however offered an optional factory option called the adventure package where you could get a rear locking diff if you got a 2006-2008 model or both a front and rear locking diff if you got a 2009 to 2010 model. Using locking diffs is very effective because it ensures that both of the wheels on an axle are spinning even if one has a lot of traction and the other is up in the air. Most of the time H3 owners will just use their lockers if they have an adventure package model or if they put an aftermarket locker in themselves and then they don’t worry about doing the BTM method. However, if you have an H3 with no lockers or only a rear locker, some will try using the BTM method if they encounter a tricky obstacle that they can’t get up. This is often referred to as “The poor man’s locker”. From what I know, this method could give you more throttle control and less spinning and chirping of tires. I think the best use case for this BTM method on the H3 is when you are climbing up a steep hill on the H3 without having a front locker. One weak point on the H3 is the front CV axles. They are known for breaking when a lot of stress is applied to them, as you can see from this video with the Red H3 breaking a CV. If you are trying to climb up a steep hill with a front open diff, one of the wheels is lifted up off the ground in the air due to flex/articulation, it will start spinning fast. If that fast spinning wheel hits the ground hard and comes to a sudden stop because you have a lot of traction (say a rocky surface instead of mud), that could cause the CV to break. So using BTM in this case can help you to slow down that fast front spinning wheel and save your CV from breaking. Personally I haven’t really used BTM before since I was am able to use my rear locker on my H3 Alpha with the Adventure Package. I hope this helps and let me know if you got more questions!

      If you want to DM on instagram @acer4lo or Facebook (Acer Miller) I can take a look at it and tell you what options and factory accessories it has. But anyway I would watch my video on the H3 adventure package on youtube if you haven't already. Also I would test all the 4x4 modes and locker(s) on it. Also I would bring a car scanner tool to see if there is any check engine lights.

Once you all got to the 1 mile trail. I was able to see tires and yeah. If most had new AT tires. It would not have been so hard. Man that makes me want to get the 16in tire rode. I think they come normally 14in for h3. I think I read that somewhere. The 16 is said to be thinker and won't break as easily. But wow this is cool.

      Yeah for sure mud tires would be beneficial. I myself have Toyo Open Country M/T tires on my H3. Instead of getting the OEM 16mm tire rods, I would actually reccomend getting the Outfitter Design Hummer H3 Heavy Duty Tire Rods. They are much beefier as they are 1in thick (25.4mm). I have had these tire rods on my H3 for about 5 years now and love them. I haven’t had any trouble on any of the offroad trails that I have went on. Thanks for watching!

      Nope there were some i5s! There were 6 H3s total, 3 of them were i5s (white, maroon, and blaze orange) and 3 of them were Alphas (dark grey, light grey, and black). The white H3 that was with us was basically stock. He just had 33in all terrain tires and also he did not have the adventure package, so no lockers. So your H3 should totally be able to do it if you want to come to a future event!

      @@DraccoKnightblade Aw dang that's a far distance. In terms of lift kits, there aren't too many good options, but there are a few. You can do a front torsion bar crank. There is a bunch of videos on youtube on that topics. Also you can do a body lift to your H3. I have a video on my channel on how to do that. Also you can do a rear leaf spring extend shackle lift which is very easy. Lol I haven't figured out what that sound was on my H3 but it did stop when I got back. I still need to get my H3 up on the lift to investigate. But yeah as of now, I am not sure what it is.

      @@4lowmode Keep us posted with what was going on with your truck eh? I'm interested to know if those heavier connecting rods or CV axles were the culprit, as I'm looking to upgrade mine to those ones you've mentioned before in other comments. And thanks! I planned on doing a body lift and have watched basically every video you've done on the H3's so far. So few and far between -good- videos on how to do things with this vehicle! Probably going to end up doing a torsion key replacement and lift, and the rear shackle before putting 35"s on. Question, did you have to retune your shift positions or anything when you put larger tires on yours? Or is yours the Alpha and didn't need that sort of thing like the I-5 did (or so I hear.)
