  • Louie Hinchliffe is a #sprinting #trackandfield #100meter dash champion. But none of the top teams in college track and field wanted to recruit him out of high school. And now he is the fastest man in college for the 100 meter dash.

Doesn't the wind blow differently at different points along the track, and doesn’t it change continuously and aren't there also crosswinds? How can a race have a single wind reading?

He won the English national title and ran 10.19 with a tail in the semi. He was on everyone’s radar after that. Having never gone under 10.5 to right down to 10 flat is insanely confusing and completely understandable why he wasn’t recruited. It’s obvious he wasn’t getting the right sprint work and was far too active and unfocused on his short sprints splitting too much effort/time in the 200m. He’s 100% an outlier but anecdotally I took my time from 10.6 to 10.2high (with tail) once I rested on the 2 and relays. His drop has a lot to do with his great mechanics and hard work and natural gifts but the concept is there. I’ve long had this suspicion as US athletes continue to overrun themselves into the track as highschool programs put you through darn near torture. I won an Ohio state highschool 4x8 title for instance being the laughably slowest member of the relay simply bc I could run a sub 50 quarter. Then had to go for the 100m title a dozen minutes later surely still having some of the vomit on my bib lol when I ran overseas many of my friends didn’t have the same experience in Belgium and the UK. I was fortunate enough to share the track with one the Borlée twins and I remember the year before he (Jonathon) made his Olympic debuted he mentioned having only run a high 47 or 48 and change. But he only ran a couple quarter miles and some 60s. Then he nearly got a medal in Beijing on the 4x4 relay team and made the open semis. From there he only focused on the open 400 and relays. Can you imagine if he was American though ? With a 47 under your belt in the open 400 where times famously drop with power and ncaa programs, he would have been highly recruited. He’d have to double to maximize team points and likely still get down to 46 his freshman year but not likely to shed 3 seconds to his eventual PB of 44. Him and his twin though I can’t speak to Kevin’s performances I never met him. Just makes me think how US high school programs in particular have a way of limiting potential. Similar in a way to how US soccer is hampered by highschool athletics and why many guys I used to coach play for ODP teams year round and remove themselves from high school soccer programs entirely. That’s modeled after the European system which does an extreme version of that - basically IMG academy. And why those athletes from img do so well professionally.
Idk sorry for the rant haha but Louie’s case brought all this back when I look at how much time he shed when he cut the 200m and got very serious about the 100m. Under the direction of Carl this man is a MONSTER. Absolutely savage pace and fantastic mechanics. I hope US high schools start to take this issue seriously as the US soccer system already has with tremendous results with great examples as case studies like christian Pulisic who is tied for 11th most goals in the Serie A and tied for 4th most assists

Even if he doesn't get a medal in the 100M, does that takeaway from his greatness? All of those guys you named in your previous comment are seasoned pros, is Hinchliffe suppose to beat them ? Out of all the things you could've said, why did you choose to say that?
