    Alex, you forgot to mention that the Cadillac XTS will be on the road long after its competition is in the junkyard. That has always been a strong point with G.M. products. I see 40 year old G.M. products, especially Cadillacs and Buicks, on the road all the time. I very rarely see the foriegn cars of that age still rolling along. If you don't plan on buying a new car every year, American cars are the way to go.

    I like General Motors, in general. But they do stuff that is sometimes, questionable. I think maybe if the Cadillac XTS had a V8 option and if they had put better quality materials (not just for the stitching but also for every thing else including the glove box) and if they could make the CUE (Cadillac User Experience) system not so laggy, I’m sure the XTS would $ell more than Mercedes and BMW.

    Alex, I'm in the market for a full size car in the next few months. I'm very spoiled by several of the very handy features of my 2014 Mazda 6 GT, including adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive headlights, and auto high beams. Very few large cars offer these features in total -- the Chrysler 300 and the XTS being about it. I can buy a used 2015 XTS Premium for ~$39K - $40K, with less than 15K miles. Am I crazy, or is this the full-size bargain of the class with the features I'm seeking?
    Thanks!

      Jim MacMurdo I was left wanting by the XTS. It is considerably more than the 300 but slower and not as well put together in certain places given the price tag. The LCD instrument cluster is a thing of beauty but I'd lean more towards the Genesis and 300 than the XTS overall.

    You automotive writers are always bitching about steering feel. The general public who is buying a car like this doesn't want to feel the road. As far as I am concerned you guys and your complaining down through the years have ruined the kinds of cars we used to be able to buy that had zero steering feel, soaked up all road imperfections and cycled the suspension at least twice over bumps. Bring back the Cadillac ride of 20 years ago!

Just before the recession GM was all but giving them away and I snagged an outrageous bargain so I can't complain too much. Anyone though who thinks that Cadillac is somehow so far above the General's more plebeian offerings is not willing to face reality. And I agree, if I had north of 60 grand to spend I'd be looking to the Black Forest.

    Geez, what a brutally bad review. First, I don’t own an XTS but I’ve driven them, and they are nothing like he describes. It’s a dramatically better, more usable car then the ridiculous Lincoln MKS. Overall reliability has proven to be excellent. Definitely a cheaper long term option then a big Mercedes. It’s just an example of how far automotive journalism has fallen. He started out with a chip on his shoulder about it, and proceeded to just point out negatives about it as much as he could. Sad. And incredibly unprofessional. I wonder which resort Mercedes flew him to after this review was done.

However now that Cadillac is bringing a serious car to the competition in leu of the crap that they used to (see all Cadillacs 2001-2009) this car must be compared to the likes of cars that have been and are extremely well made (see german cars) The simple fact is that it's not there yet -getting much much closer, but still not as good.

No matter how you slice it, the Lincoln MKS, Volvo S80, Chrysler 300, Hyundai Genesis, Audi A6 and BMW 528 all represent better value.

  • @liberalweirdo7886

    Two main problems with this car. 1. A fully loaded impala looks better IMO and it’s really not even close. The Impala has the look of a bulked up fast back with its beautiful C pillar and this looks like a fat bubble to me. Car is too short and tall compared to the Impala. (At least it gives that appearance). 2. This is not the interior of a luxury car. Sure it’s got a lot tech but where is the Cadillac way of high gloss wood and leather and a dashboard that had excellent flow. This car has entirely too much piano black plastic which won’t age well whatsoever, it’s dashbord is too focused on being vertical instead of horizontal which makes the car seem less wide when you’re sitting in it. This interior is eons behind an e class. My first Cadillac back in the day was a 99 Seville. Sure the headgaskets blew and the car was practically a lemon but man what a car when everything was working. A girl I was seeing at the time used to take her parents E class out all the time and I thought sitting in the Seville was nicer and much luxurious feeling and don’t even get me started on the 5 series from that time. I drove one all of 300 feet and literally got out and said oh no this is awful. Hard plastics and “sporty” steering that required way too much effort yet felt numb at the same time. I miss those 90s Caddies. They went head to head with the big boys from Germany and Japan and held their own very well I thought. But that is no longer the case. The CT6 was a step in the right direction when it was released but still it’s no s class or even e class interior for that matter.

      Great screen name and beautiful review..and I agree with everything you said..except for me it was Lincoln. You can buy this car for dirt cheap today and there's a reason for that: Poor build quality..weak engine..generic GM ride..and unreliable electronics. Sure..it's very pretty to look at..but I ride inside a car..not outside it..and I'm old school about my luxury..as in wanting a soft ride and everything at my fingertips just like my old Lincoln Continental Mark VI Coupe and Lincoln Town Car used to give me. But nobody wants to make a soft riding luxury car anymore..unless you have big bucks for a Rolls Royce.

Lexus, as with many Japanese cars, has been denied entrance in Russia for HUGE amounts of radiation due to the still problematic Fukushima power plant.

      +smouthdudesmooth I have to say, I see tons of old Lincolns, Caddy's, Crown Vics, Grand Marquis' all over the road. some of which are 30 years old or so. Granted, they do require maintenance, but so did all the German cars I've owned; not to mention Land Rover. We've been so "reviewed" to death and shamed into thinking that American cars are junk, and some are, but ALL cars have their weak spots. Ours just happens to be rattles. And oh do i hate rattles, but I hate spending a fortune on repairing a German even more.

    • @morrowtrack
      @morrowtrack Před 8 lety +1

      I understand the truth to what you are saying. But this article is not really about the moral of buying American. Nor do I promote buying just for the sake of patriotism. My response was intended to point out that, aside from maintenance, it is very possible to drive American cars for many years and miles. And truthfully, all countries have recalls, maintenance issues, and other let downs in their product. I've owned them, I know. I agree with all you've said, however.

    • @waynejohnson1304

      ***** You have been brainwashed. Buying American keeps American Dollars in THIS country. When you buy a foreign car, the money goes out but does not return. Even when they are made here, the profits leave, never to return again. Profits for replacement parts make up 61% of the Profits for American car manufacturers. Guess what? 61% of the profits for foreign car makers come from replacement parts too. In the long run, you make the country poorer and poorer each time you buy a foreign car.
