The girl who sings the solo is so astonishingly beautiful, body and soul, it is a delight to watch her, and this entire performance. Truly otherworldly. x

I am a Hebrew native-speaker: it is only thanks to the combined talents of the Bel Canto choir (I'm a long time follower) and of Eric Whitacre, that this rather idiotic song is pleasant to hear here.

I love the music of Eric Whitacre in general, and this collection of Love Songs is an absolute stunner. I heard them live for the first time last night, and experienced that visceral shock on hearing something that you know will change your emotional life and musical sound world permanently. In particular, Éyze shéleg! sent shivers up and down my back and brought tears to my eyes. It is a thing of sheer beauty. Thank you Eric, thank you Bel Canto. (Interestingly, the waves of sound produced by the choir from around 7.54 are very reminiscent of sections of Vaughan Williams's Flos Campi, a much underrated work in my view. Here, as in Flos Campi, they evoke infinite tenderness and a bitter-sweet melancholy.)

The sounds of Éyse shéleg are a reminiscence to the bells of a church in Speyer, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

Eric schrieb das zusammen mit "my girlfriend-at-the-time" Hila Plitmann. In Speyer, Germany. Weiter schreibt er: "These songs are profoundly personal for me, born entirely out of my new love for this soprano, poet, and now my beautiful wife, Hila Plitmann."
Also ehrlich, was für eine schöne Geschichte.

I am so glad I accidentally opened this ! How beautiful ! What beautiful a choir, and what enthousiasm in both choir and director. I hope there are more pieces of this excellent choir. For some reason the director makes me think of Nikolaus Harnoncourt, who lipped with the singers as well... Love it ! Thank you for posting it.

Impeccable performance of an exquisite piece of music! I've never heard an SATB choral work accompanied by a string quartet; it adds a very interesting new dimension to the music. I've also never seen so many beautiful young ladies enjoy singing so much-but how could they not when performing such tender, heartfelt love songs for a dashing and debonair composer!

Blame the conductor. Brilliant composer but his conducting is terrible. Inconsistent, imprecise, improperly placed pattern, awful cutoffs, vague cues.
