      Rowdy, spot on mate. George just did the businness, and when he was on form there was no one else like him and no player in the world could stop him by fair means or foul. I have always rated george as the greatest ever. George was a supporters joy. I remember watching him against west ham utd in 1972 but it was in 1996 i think on a video tape of footballs great players, and it showed about 12 minutes of that game and i was a bit suprised when the commentator said "and fans have been queing up since 7am this morning to see this match at upton park becouse of george best" and i had never ever heard that before. Becouse in there last game at old trafford sure george tore west ham to bits with that brilliant hatrick he got to win 4-2. But the game ended 2-2 at upton park and george scored a good goal that day. But at the start of the 1972,73 season i couldnt believe how much george had lost his ability and speed in just 5 or 6 month. It was hard to believe with a player with all that skill and how quickly he had lost it. It happend so quick. A mean 6 month isnt a very long time. But i heard he just about didnt train at all in those months and drank more! But he was still only age 26. It was sad as hell to watch.

Put messi in a world cup against the best teams in the world and he just hasnt got what it takes. World cups are so much harder. Exept if your maradona who won it almost himself in an average team. Even pele didnt do that. He had a brilliant team. And messi is past it now to win a world cup, so there you have it.

      @thetwoboyos george could have had any football show he wanted and other shows as a host. But the bbc thought he was far to reliant on drinck to keep it up every week. They tried him and rodney marsh in early 1988 for the best and marsh show, but george and marsh werent the hosts they were guests, it was to really see how george would do as it was on every monday for 4 or 5 weeks. And was great, and had alot of viewers. And this was like a trial peroid. But after 5 weeks it just dissappeared, or some one disappeared? As george didnt get alot of work at that timeand he didnt turn up for alot he did get, so the bbc know all that stuff and whats going on with who. And george did speeches in old dumps for a few hundred pound. And even worse. But if he didnt have a problem with drink he would be king of any top football show. And the bbc gave george lots of work over the years. Becouse he had a huge pull on tv viewers. And what a player.

    Look at the smirk of satisfaction in Wogans face when George says that he's been beaten up. He was clearly utterly jealous of George.

    • @alanmctavish4802
      @alanmctavish4802 Před 2 lety

      Joel williams, i was thinking wogan was smirking becouse george didnt tell the truth about wogan and his back room team that supplied best with all that drink to GET him drunk, becouse alot of viewers dont know that they have stand in guests incase something happens and it did happen, they knew george was drunk and still allowed him on when they didnt need to. They set george up, every one knows it. But typical george he refused to tell the truth just to keep the peace and you can see here george jokes about it to cover up the true story and wogan knew he would. Thats why wogan had to ask about it strait away, to get it out the way. But george slipped up big time becouse he was making a joke about it. As in wogan said to him you were ok 3 minutes before you came on? Wich was a lie. Ye cant be ok 1 minute then 3 minutes later end up drunk. So he put george on an awkward spot, to wich he said "terry you would be suprised how MUCH an irish man can drink in 3 minutes, it was a long walk" so 3 minutes to go and they still allowed a drunken george to keep drinking as much as he wanted. So it was a set up from the start. I was only age 17 when i remember watching it on tv at the time, i knew strait away he had been drinking when he walked on stage and shook hands. At first my dad said hes drunck. And i said a know and best tried to act sober and was doing ok he wasnt being daft and was so true when talking about how england did in the world cup 2 month before. And i said to my dad i cant believe the bbc have allowed him to go on like that? Then best said he liked screwing then wogan finished it. Then i notice when omar shereif came on best was still sitting next to him for about 3 minutes as you could see him clearly, then they took him off the set altogether. When the camera was on omar you could see best wasnt there. I didnt think the bbc would sink so low, it was sad as hell to imagine that the bbc did set that up weeks in advance becouse george said in his book the viewing had dropped to next to nothing but when he went on drunck about 14 million had tunend in to watch it. As the bbc were going to axe the show but best safed it for about a year.

    I've just watched his story and wow, it rings so true for me as the long term partner of an alcoholic who now has cirrhosis and liver failure. The disappearing on benders for days/weeks, the letting people down and then feeling so bad about it they drink more, stages of sobriety where you get a glimpse of the man you love for a short blissful period etc. It was like my own life. And I just hope and I pray that it's not too late for him. He's only 40 and we have children together. If he were to get a liver transplant I've worried about the possibility that he'd see it as a fresh new organ and drink again and end up like George here. It's so sad, horrible disease.

    Fabulously kind words from recently departed "Parky". Today, every top football game is filmed and recorded. In Best's playing day's, re: Match of the Day or The Big Match, they chose to film just a few top games per week. Alas, think of all the great Best displays of talent that was only watched live and went unrecorded. Great shame. What we do have is marvelous, though.

    he was conceited, he was egotistical, he was eccentric and flamboyant, but he was a pioneer in football and a role model for hundreds of thousands of men across the world. He was unfortunate to suffer an illness which causes millions of people a great deal of trouble and heartache and I do not believe for one minute that he ENJOYED being an alcoholic. Why cant people remember him for the footballing genius that he was, and remember his positive characteristics instead of his negative ones? RIP.

    This is the fourth interview I've seen about great George in one evening.
    And I am so FUCKED UP - with the others - the interviewers, and the guests - they ar SO on their BIG HORSES - looking down. WHAT THE F*** HAVE THEY DONE?
    And the humble George, answers and answers, clothes himself naked - honest - wow - he was a just not one of the greatest on the field, he was also one of the greatest in situations like these......

    George was brilliant, and it was, unfortunately, Sir Matt who decided to build the team around Bobby Charlton instead of George that began his descent into booze and depression.

    You can see he's bloated in almost all his interviews. I remember that well, about 1/2 my life was that way. Happy and sad times, throughout.

    Tavy@ best wasnt just the greatest player in the world between 1966 to 1971 he was the greatest entertainer too! better than any tv show. George best was a one off. A miracle. After 1972-73 he had lost his great speed, his dribbling, his extremely high jumping ability to head the ball, his speed of thought. He still had his great control, he could still pass long and short with either foot, he was still brave. But he wasnt half the player he was! And at 25 it was sad! If he played on till he was 36 he wouldv proved he WAS the greatest player ever thats another 10 years on top of what he did, becouse we didnt see the best of him! Every time a see that lob against spurs in 1971 the one big pat jennings trys to punsh clear but it falls to best who takes it on hes chest then lobbs it over big pat and the rest of the defence whos on the goal line and george is at least 16 yards from goal and he clears them all and it drops under the bar exhibiting sublime execution gauged to the very inch! It sends a shiver down ma back when a see it. In 1981 a first saw best do that and had never saw it done before. I was only 8 at the time and a said to my dad who was that there dad? He said thats george best son, with a bit of sadness in hes eyes! Now a know why !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
