- Prof. Eric Kaufmann argues that whilst Marxists and other radical left activists certainly contributed to today's progressive ideology, it was actually modern liberalism that is most to blame for the rise of woke.
Prof. Kaufmann's new book is "Taboo: How Making Race Sacred Produced a Cultural Revolution". It may be pre-ordered here: www.amazon.co.uk/Taboo-Making...

He’s bang on the money, we need to reclaim our heritage, culture and traditions, I hope more and more people see this now, it feels like the last 8 months to a year have well and truly shifted tho, in our direction. Everyone’s starting to understand it all, and see it all for what is really is. 🇬🇧🇺🇸
we are awakening now ❤
@@user-gj5se7er3r seems like the last year has been a huge wake up call, from immigration and Islam to all
This woke nonsense and the constant madness that comes with it, I’m
Starting to feel more positive about things as of late, the winds shifting all over now. 👏🏻🇬🇧
I hope you're right.
Thank you for your comment.
I’m Australian, our social cohesion is shattered. Successive Governments have coward ministers. Many of us Australian citizens from many places are being betrayed by the anti-west culture.
there comes a point when tolerance shouldn't tolerate intolerance.
Bleeding hearts; bleeding fools.
Yes, he is correct, 100% .
It was the stupidity started by Foucalt.
And that was because of his enormous ego.
@@ajs41and his noncing.
I only know him (if, indeed, that is his[?] pronoun) for his pendulum.
Go back further to Alexandre Kojève who influenced a whole generation of French intellectuals.
more like Nietzsche. At least the anti-enlightenment aspect of it comes from him. This method that can only deconstruct but never build ideas.
Foucault made it hip and left, he wanted an alternative to Marxism and got it.
But this is an incomplete picture. I The fact is that Foucault and Nietzsche were no activists, they just wrote stuff. A lot of this stuff comes from people taking fringe literary theory stuff like Spivak's "The servant may speak", which does pull a lot from Foucault, and trying to make political theory out of it.
Foucault would probably be horrified of what was made of his work. He, for sure, wasn't one for moralizing. That comes from somewhere else.
I think this also has a lot to do with upper class people trying to take over leftist politics, reading Paulo Freire(who was writing about adult illiterates) and calling themselves oppressed.
Toxic compassion & gynocentric hegemony
It’s fake compassion
@@James_36 it’s passive aggressive behaviour it’s collective psychopathy
"woke" is its own thing; It may be INFLUENCED by Marxism and liberalsism (and those ideologies have their own flaws), but people really committed to both liberalism and marxism, almost always reject the "woke" stuff.
(But people really into the "woke"mindset will often CALL THEMSELVES "marxist" or "liberal", among the mess of other labels they cling to.... But ask them what that MEANS, and you'll be lucky to get even the most shallow grasp of liberalism/marxism.
Marxism and liberalism may have their problems, but "woke" is just an ideologically-incoherent mess of shallow virtue-signalling, with any ideological support added post hoc)
Basically just the irrational overcoming the rational mind which is distressingly common in history and now in our country.
Virtue signalling is the main motivation. Modern Marxists are as obsessed with money as their capitalist friends lol it makes me laugh. The left has lost the plot. The issue with this is it means business gets free rein on abuse of individuals. Secure jobs no longer a thing and pay is getting crap
Woke is elite mindset, a belief that can be held to gain brownie points without feeling the effects. Inflicting suffering onto people who cannot afford to go along with such beliefs also. A lot of well off privileged people who didn’t earn that place often take these views. In the end it is one big plot and distraction and keeping themselves at the top while inflicting societial damage to the lesson fortunate
It's all very feminine too, it must be said. Note the emphasis on "kindness, empathy, tolerance, fairness, inclusion" etc. That's why it has spread like wildfire through the most female-dominated fields (e.g. Human Resources).
@@jenniferlawrence2701 I live in Chicago and often see white women on the news who are full of compassion for the “migrants.” The road to hell is paved with good intentions. No borders means no country. No country is the road to hell.
Eric Kaufman is very good.
Yes they are good. That's exactly the problem.
Two N's.
I think he's right. James Lindsay has two great podcasts on classical liberalism. He critiques that the underlying philosophies of the individual, ownership, and privacy need some form of renewal and updating for the present era. What's a good theory of the individual? What does ownership and property mean? What is and how can liberalism provide a reasonable expectation of privacy in both private and public spaces?
A solid definition of Woke: Woke = Critical Consciousness. Critical consciousness is the core of Critical Social Justice teaching as it is understood within the critical theories. It is a heightened awareness of the world and the power structures that shape it. Being Woke means viewing society exclusively through the critical lenses which sees the world only in terms of unjust power dynamics (oppressed/oppressor) and the need to dismantle problematic systems as an activist. That is, it means having adopted Theory and the worldview it conceptualizes. Under “wokeness,” this awakened consciousness is set particularly with regard to issues of identity like race (Critical Race Theory), sex, gender, sexuality (Queer Theory), and others.
The term originated in Portuguese as Conscientização (look it up) from the popular post-Marxist Brazilian activist and educator Paulo Freire, usually deemed the father of critical pedagogy (that is, the application of critical theories to the theory of education). It is an evolved Hegelian/Marxian religious cult that hides as human rights, politics, science, art and culture. Mao applied class identity politics during the cultural revolution carried out by the Red Guards, the brainwashed youth. In short, Woke is Maoism with American characteristics designed to take over the West.
I think what has happened is by accident or design, Liberal and Communist strains of thought in the West have mixed into something calling itself Progressivism (what some call "woke"). Part of the reason for its success is it isn't hamstrung with the baggage of either of those older labels (Communism, Liberalism) though it retains elements of both. This means it is harder to pin down and combat. It presents vaguely as being for seemingly benign, positive things like "kindness" "fairness" "tolerance" (lol) "justice" "progress" "empathy" etc... This is why it can be supported both by Capitalists in the corporate world and by Socialists on college campuses or in Left political parties.
Too-often modern Conservatives have thought their role is simply to uphold Liberalism. But Liberalism and Conservatism aren't one and the same, and in many ways they are at odds with one another. Conservatives can (and should) be deeply concerned about preserving inherited liberties, of course. But that is only one part of their proper mission.
No - it is "Toxic Femineity" turned up, amplified, by a variety of factors. Women want to be SEEN to be "fair", "feelings" (empathetic), "sharing" (hence "collectivism" which can be mistaken for Marxism), "wellbeing ("health and safety")... the list is long. And it is vengeful against the perceived injustice of the past - reparations etc. All this is facilitated by social media which is not a battlefield of brawn and debate but rather of "conversation" - but of "backstabbing" reputation, character, motivations - all the ways women use to fight...
i'm no expert but i say BLM is at the root of many of the worrying changes we see happening.
Marxists would call woke progressives as revisionists. Lenin even engaged with a feminist in 1918 where he criticised the manufacturing of the so called "sex problem". Antonio Gramsci wrote of what has become wokism with what he described as cultural hegemony.
Isn’t this thinking based on the Frankfurt School?
Party, but also in the melting pot are influential Liberals like John Rawls, John Dewey, and Ronald Dworkin.
It's just bullying control x
Woke is a direct result of social media.
👏🏻
What I'd say,is little things in being out and about like being on a crowded bus or train which after all is public transport when certain ppl have to take the outside seat and leave there bag or item next to them so they take two seats and deprive another person to take a seat to rest is in my mind arrogant and ignorant which although sounds petty means an awful deal,in ppl in societies helping to make our day to day lives easier
Tell them to move over.
Everything I think is wrong.
it's christian purity testing and virtue signaling applied to leftist politics.
👏👏👏
Who was in the vanguard of every progressive movement? Tikkun Olam.
I wrote a book on it.😂
It must be true. 😂
the "liberals" haha sure

Yes, and if you write comments about cultural marxists and 'liberals' the comments get deleted by the CZcams algorithms. Noticing coincidences is also forbidden.
Karl Marx would turn in his grave to see how his theory has been distorted.
