I think you chose a great line up here, you get surprised everytime. I mean that's Alamat, for some they are an acquired taste but they can give you a lot of different things and it's never boring with them I swear.

I literally cried when i first saw Dagundong's MV. It's so so powerful. I hope more people recognize Alamat because they truly are,for me, the best group to represent our country

omgggg i didn't know you reacted to them ate!! they are SO good like SO good i can't even emphasize it even more just to get everyone to listen to them 😆😭 si lolo ko (dad side) is bicolano tas tagalog si papa, while si lola (mom side) is waray and mom is bisaya that's why i really easily liked them bc they felt really close to home and i grew up speaking both tagalog and bisaya.
they speak 7 languages in total: Tagalog, Zambal (Mo) Bisaya (Alas), Waray (R-Ji), Bicolano (Tomas), Kapampangan (Jao), Ilocano (Taneo). And their songs (with mvs) where you can hear these different languages are: kbye (debut, 9 members), ABKD, kasmala (8 members), Say U Love Me, Day & Night, ILY ILY.

Aww man… Alamat deserves more recognition and love tbh! I love their concepts and how they show different filipino myths and folklore. Omg MO is a problem, but all of them are a problem Jan!! Yes there’s so much more music and content for you to check out!! I hope you can check out “Day and Night” very summery fun vibes and the actress/love interest in the MV is this generation’s DARNA, Jane De Leon. She’s so pretty and cute in the MV with the guys. I also love the fact that they use different dialects in their songs too.

Thank you for reacting to ALAMAT! They're such a big part of my life now and have been my source of inspiration since I became a Magiliw. I even used them for school projects HAHAHAHA. My favorite song of them are "ILY ILY," "Gayuma, ", "Day and Night," "Dayang, " "Noli, "Kbye," and "Dong Dong Ay." Actually I love all of their songs, even the ones for ads or collaborations with other artists. In short, they're a no skip discography so I think it's better if you listen to all of them 😅😅 I just want to pull you into liking them because they REALLY DESERVE IT!
Had the same reaction when I stumbled upon this music video last October. Also did a double take because I couldn't believe that this group was singing about Philippine colonial history.
The songs in their 2 albums are great, I liked the concept of the group and the references to Philippine culture so much that I ended up dragging my niece to Alamat's first solo concert last December.
Btw, the dance at the beginning of the Maharani video is called Singkil. Tinikling was featured when they were trying to cheer up the girl in the field.

Dagundong: The shock you felt at the beginning of this History lesson is the same feeling I felt when I first watched this MV. There's something in my Filipino blood that boils asking to fight the oppressors of the our country.

I too was introduced into Ppop with Alamat (the Ppop princes) and then found SB19 (the Ppop Kings) and so many other incredible Philippino artists. Love G22 and Bini for the girl groups. Love that you are getting into Ppop it has changed my life for the better. I lived in PH in my 20s and then married a Philippino. I love the Philippines and huge respect for them. So happy Alamat shares the Philippino stories and culture so beautifully. They deserve more recognition. Mad mad respect.

I think Dagundong caught everyone by surprise. I had the exact same reaction as you during the part when the tattoos appeared, it was SO powerful. I really, really wish more Filipinos (those in the Philippines and in the diaspora) would listen to it and watch the MV, because it's the kind of song that deserves millions of views and totally destroys any of the BS arguments that p-pop is just a bad copy of kpop. I highly recommend you watch their video of the recording process of the song too - it's really interesting and I think you'd enjoy it.

New sub here, and I'm so glad to see a Filipino reactor who's able to put their own culture into their reaction, and it really helps that you have an understanding of the language(s) and the cultural perspective and context! As someone who was born and partly raised in the Philippines, and then moved to North America, this kind of reaction is totally my jam.
I'd say if you really want to delve into PPop, Alamat, SB19, Bini and G22 are your go-to, then you can branch out further into more of the other groups afterwards. Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions as you start to explore PPop. So happy that our music is getting more recognition, and I think once our people start paying more attention, we'll be seeing some really good music from more of these groups in the future.
PS - Aswang's lyrics are so cringe lol... "sipsipin" is like what I feel about the word "moist". Check out Alamat's other songs, Walang Hanggang, Kasmala, Gayuma, Ily Ily, Sa Panaginip Na Lang, Say U Love Me, Day & Night... their discography is great - with songs that are bops but also have deeper cultural meanings.

Omg the way you're gonna love the MV for Kasmala!! It's about US colonization and when the US stole the Igorots and brought them to America for the 1904 St. Louis Fair to show Americans "uncivilized" Filipinos to convince them why they need to colonize the PH. Also makes reference to how Filipinos were treated when they came to America!!

Please check out the music by SB19. They're considered as the kings of PPop. Their bihgest hit is Gento but please check out their other songs: Mana, Mapa, Crimezone and Bazinga. Their newest song is Moonlight.
