  • Like many things these days, wakeboard prices have been creeping up. New models are retailing for $700, $800 etc. While this may be the case, there are still some incredible boards that can be had for under $450. In this video I'll talk about the 5 boards that I think are worth checking out in this lower price range. Note, the focus here will just be on boat boards. Future video about cable to come later.
Links to the boards I chat about here:

One more thing, I'd include the OBrien Clutch in the under $450 category. Heck, it's under $300! It's Cobe Mikacich's pro model shape, even though they don't advertise it as his pro model board. You can ride it with the bolted center fin, or ride it "finless" & just use the 2 molded-in fins on each side. While the biggest size is a 143cm, Cobe is a tall guy (over 6ft) and says not to get wrapped up in the "bigger is better" fad. There's a lot of tall/big guys that ride boat boards that aren't above the 144cm length.

Good callout! I wasn’t aware of that model.

Great video & analysis, Rich! And thanks for including the OBrien Valhalla, since it's the board I ride as you know & love it. It's a great price-point board, super user-friendly and extremely light with the feather-core. Also, regarding the higher board prices these days, there were Honeycomb Pro model boards 25 years ago that costed between $600-650. So if you think about it, today's high-end board prices aren't that out of range considering. Keep up the great content!

Thats a good point on the honeycomb boards. With inflation those could easily be $800+ now. Maybe there are just a lot of high end cores now but looking at Ronix alone, half their boat boards are $600+. Nothing wrong with that per say but wanted people to know their are some great budget/work horse boards for less. I can’t say I would ride a “loaded” murray if it existed though! I need to ride the Valhalla sometime for research. It was the only one on the list I haven’t had a set on.

@@LifetimeShred Yeah, the Honeycomb models were just for the high-end pro models. The rest of the foam core boards back then were anywhere from $350-450 from the bigger companies. I have a Valhalla 143 demo for you to try out, so just let me know when you're ready!

Cool vid! You think it would be possible for you do a video reviewing the Murray board? I’m looking at getting a new board and was curious what your thoughts were about it’s pop, swing weight, board speed etc.

Thats a good idea. I’ve talked about the board in some videos better never a thorough review. I will say though that I think the Murray gets talked about a lot on reddit, wakeboard Facebook groups and forums for good reason. Good idea!
