  • On today's video we count down 10 managers who have been unlucky to lose their jobs in recent years! In the Premier League, Scott Parker, Thomas Tuchel and Bruno Lage were all sacked early in the season, and all three can argue to have not been given enough time to turn things around, with Thomas Tuchel the victim of a new owner looking to make his mark, and Lage unlucky with injuries.
We also take a look at Andrea Pirlo's short spell in charge of Juventus, Mauricio Pochettino's sacking at Tottenham, who he led to the Champions League final, Carlo Ancelotti's exit from Napoli in 2019, and Domenico Tedesco's recent departure from RB Leipzig. But which sacking do we think was the harshest? Watch on to find out!

Parker's sacking was 100% correct though. You cannot get away with badmouthing your own players to the media unless you are Jose or Sir Alex. Gary o'Neil has taken the SAME squad up to 8th place currently in the Premier League (they just beat Leicester at home 2-1).
This entire list could be unfair sackings for Ancelotti. Example: Juventus in June 2001, sacked during the final Serie A fixture of the season while still with a mathematical chance of winning Serie A - they lost to Capello's Roma. That Juventus sacking was also pretty similar to his circumstances at Chelsea (sacked for finishing 2nd, and had the 3rd best win percentage record while manager of one team at the time, only behind Jose and Sir Alex).

I couldn't see Tuchel fixing it tbh. Offensively he's never been the best manager. Relying mostly hitting teams on the break which is great when you're playing knockout football but that reactive style can backfire when you're expected to play on the front foot like in the premier league.
I don't think Tuchel was capable of coaching the style of football needed to keep up with the likes of City and Liverpool. Our offense was too basic to open up teams that defended deep against us

A very good list, but Marcelino probably should be the top worst sacking, not third. It was utterly disgraceful. As you say, sacked because he tried to win the Copa del Rey (and did) instead of channelling his attention on finishing in the top 4 (which he did anyway). Lim felt that Marcelino had somehow been subordinate and sacked Marcelino. It was probably the biggest injustice I have ever seen in my forty-odd years of being a football fan.

Do people have short memories or did football only exist in the 2020s? There are many noteworthy candidates over Kovac who was out of his depth even in his title winning season. If it wasn’t for Dortmund hitting the self destruct button, he would have been gone in summer. Pirlo was also out of his depth and lacked even the experience n qualifications. Del Bosque is definitely one on the list…. He won champions league in 03 and then the league in 04 and was shown the door that very summer.
Sir Bobby should also be on the list TWICE, once for winning three cups in his debut and only season at Barca… he was moved “up the ladder” because the new president wanted his own man… nothing to do with his results.
And then for his departure at Newcastle…. He joined Newcastle when they were bottom…won the first game 8-0 and brought joy back to st James… within a few years they were playing in champions league and launched an unlikely title challenge… then he was sacked and replaced by the one and only Gramme Souness whose greatest achievement in management was ending Liverpool’s golden era… he dismantled the young and exciting Newcastle team sir Bobby assembled and Newcastle haven’t played in the CL since…
Surely these are way more noteworthy than kovac, pirlo and Parker… they were under qualified and sacked for poor results
