- Guadalupe Rosales’ community-sourced archive projects like “Veteranas and Rucas” and “Map Pointz started after Rosales noticed the erasure of Latinx culture and experiences in memories of L.A.’s rave and party crew scene of the 90s. Rosales shares how these digital archive projects created community and a sense of collective storytelling.

Please do not retroactively apply the term "latinx" to anything, ever. Actually it's better if people just stop using it. If you self-identify as Latinx cool whatever. But don't apply it to people who don't because it's kinda offensive. There was a legit scene back then, and I promise you that latinx wasn't there to talk about it.
Ok, ok. Do you need a hug? I don’t use the term but others do. No one is her to bend to your whims.
Is this a generational complaint? Or a regressive stance?
Thank you for writing this… I was about to do the same
No one who went to raves in the 90’s, including myself, use the term latinx, I can assure you….
Latinx is a white term
I was part of the LA Party Scene, one thing i hear is people talk about how the LA Party Scene was the Rave Scene…. No it wasn’t.. They were two separate scenes….
The Rave scene had been around before the LA Party Scene. The Rave scene is more of a worldwide scene with a variety of electronica music generes like
Trance, Techno, gabber, Jungle, House, etc etc…at illegal warehouses, etc etc..
Mostly composed of white people…
The LA Party Scene was mostly composed of hispanics of course, and the scene in its early stages played some disco, flashbacks, freestyle, deep house, then in late 90s it was hardhouse…
At illegal warehouses as well..
In 99 the LA Party scene was dieing out. Less Rebels and Groovers were around.. It continued to the early 2000s but it wasn’t the same anymore… then it eventually died out….
Both scenes had their similarities but were different scenes…
Party scene had : party crews, rebels, freestylers, breakers, poppers, and groovers
Rave scene had: Candy kids, shufflers, junglists, headbangers, jackers etc etc…
Two different scenes, i did both…
It definitely 2 different subcultures! Raves and party crews ! I agree completely 💯💯
Yes you’re 💯 correct. Rave? No Rebel scene. By 1998 everyone at Arena was dressing Sporty. It was changing and all those high school kids including me have moved on to the real WORLD life. Rebel 94 to 98.
I don’t recall anyone calling themselves LatinX in the 90’s. Can you keep that divisive term to 2020 people.
Exactly what i came to the comments to say. It's one of the dumbest unsolicited labels/titles/names created by self-hating extremists
You guys misunderstand this term. It’s like the term Chicano/a. It’s a term created by a culture, that of American Latin people. It’s not something to fear (hate).
@ValeriaBenavides it's a term that Latinos do not like. You can just say Latin to keep it "gender neutral" (when actually Latinos is gender neutral). No need to add the x to keep up with this nonsense ideology.
For real dude man I’ve always been Chicano I don’t need these new terms
@@MsHeartIsArtthen use the word Chicano/a not that other crap
We didn’t call it Latinx in the 90’s bro
Man I miss those days!!! Wacky World 🌎 Productions FOREVER!!! O.G. "STROBE"
The good old 90’s ditching parties
Jefferson high !! LA baby
Thanks for sharing this. I was born and bred in LA and just heard of these stories. It was an interesting insight.
Amazing. Beautiful. Heartbreaking. I'm happy Guadalupe is doing this work.
That was beautiful.
So where is the rave part in all this , smh , all i saw where back yard parties not raves , cmon
ditch parties were better then raves
Dope dope but she lost points when she used the term “LatinX”. No mames!
None of the raza is on board w that; only white liberals.
Thank you to you for achieving my youth as a latina.
💜💜💜💜💜
When I think of LA I def think about east los and all its different culture. I am an old white kid and we def looked to LA skate punk/graff/cholo as a fashion. Partying is the root. I lusted after gals that oozed a lil chola but def knew the "poor" or "lower class" in my town wouldn't mess w white boys. It is why I am glad looking back I was a middle class kid where this whole world of race is irrelevant. I sure dig ya making an archive of a subculture lady! Cheers from Santa Cruz ca

00:38 those are people from Wilson High in Los Angeles...Home of the Mighty Mules....I recognize some of the people in the top 3 photos...The photo at the very top looks like the parking lot of Troy's Burgers...I grew up in EL SERENO with a few of the Looney Tunes... Had some good memories at Wilson from 1993-95'
We don't care for the term "Latinx". Are we promoting partying now?
You guys misunderstand this term. It’s like the term Chicano/a. It’s a term created by a culture, that of American Latin people. It’s not something to fear (hate).
@@MsHeartIsArt it's not universally accepted. It's not necessary. You'd have to go across the board with so many other words. Chicanx, texanx, mexicanx, gringx. It goes on and on. Something completely unnecessary.
@@MsHeartIsArtits nothing comparable to chicano.
They would definitely run a fade on you for calling them x no one in the 90’s were soft like that
What the F is Latin X???
Please
Well there was actually a party crew in the 90s that called themselves LatinX productions so idk what yall talking about lol
Hell yeah" my days... Bolen INSTIGATORS!!! SGV! RIP MINOR.... THIS IS HALO...miss those years man.....
Yeah we never used the term latinx in the 90s and were not going to start now. Chicano, Mexicano, Latino, Hispanic are the only real word terms i remember and use not "latinx". Id rather be called a w£tb@ck sp!c than "latinx".
ey wtf is latinX anyway? 😂
Can you show more of aztic nation party crew pictures in la awe I have all family from there but it turned to a gang there deep in san diego it's called aztic nation locos 13
The LA rave scene in general seems to be poorly documented. I do listen to the hardhouse vinyl albums people upload on YT and sometimes you do see, the address of labels on the records being cities in California. Sometimes you see a Hispanic name.
Latino/a***
Main reason why we had these 🎉 parties because the whites didn’t want to invite us to their parties 80s and 90s and it just blew up . 🖤👽🖤👽🖤👽🖤This what is like in LA for me 90s I miss those memories 😢 … some of my friends made it thru some of them didn’t …. This brought joy and tears
I remember in the early 90s when we were starting these flyer rave parties … with rebels, goths, ravers , white people all of a sudden wanted to come too lol 👽🖤
They were very underground… sometimes you needed a code or veryyyy IFYKYK TYPE DEAL …we just didn’t want gangsters or skinheads or fights breaking up our parties
By the mid 90s it was kinda over the gangsters took over which was fine …
But the late 80s and early 90s will always be in my heart
that some bullshit..we mobbed LA whites blacks mexicans asians all races we were all taggers never had no race issues in da 90s stop it
Even in 2000s it the same after 2008 2009 it died
Please don't say latinx, Latinos don't like that word.
I do not yhink there were latinx in the 1990s
Nobody was Latinx back then. Stop that!
There’s no such thing as Latin X
I remember those days!!! Ditch parties!!!!!
I grew up with my homies from Latin nation and wicked and rebel famila ans swing kids who we list others in rebel bout!
Had friends who grew uo went to Iraq or had families, others like myself became an R.N and did events in the arena , hop , and Alhambra and even did industry parties and raves with channel 36 and drum and bass .
Great memories and had good friends who I still have and lost others, but we are not Latinx stop pushing that bullshit term!
