Is it possible to influence the conditions in the lower atmosphere by heating the ionosphere? Like for example temperature changes in the troposphere. I feel like there should be a balance that links the whole atmosphere and if disrupted in any way (by man or nature) it could have effects even as low as the troposphere. I'm not a scientist so i try to explain it the best in my own way. Just trying to understand to what extent these transmitters could influence anything outside the ionosphere. Also if none of this makes any sense please tell me haha
A good question. The key factor is the energy from radio transmitters is tiny compared to the radiation and charged particle energy the ionosphere receives from the Sun. HAARPS produces about 3.8 megawatts while the Sun delivers over 100 petawatts, that is over 10 thousand million times more energy. Although only a tiny fraction of the solar energy is absorbed by the ionosphere, humanities radio transmissions are negligible.
