  • I have wanted to do a video into the Sirui humidity control cabinet for a while, as I have found it useful for keeping my gear stored correctly and keeps it running smoothly. This is made by Sirui which its model name for this one i use is the HC110.

    Thanks, Simon. This was helpful. I don't have a lot of camera gear, but I want to take good care of it. I live in a cool, humid environment so this would probably work well for me, though I would be getting the smaller size.

      I am glad to hear you have found this useful! it is such a nice edition to help keep the gear protected and also to dry out your gear after a shoot in wet or humid conditions. Don't forget to set the humidity percentage to 45 this is what mine is set to. If it is too high it will damage the seals on the camera gear and components and too low it will do nothing.
      I'd recommend going for the next size up to what you think you need, just in case later on you get more gear and you need more storage room. Mine today has far more gear inside of it with 5 cameras and 13 lenses, 2 drones and video gear.
      All the best and enjoy your photography journey! :)

    Thanks for this video! Would you say this is a good solution for security, or strictly on temp / humidity controlled storage?

    • @SimonPhillipsPhoto
      @SimonPhillipsPhoto  Před rokem

      No problems at all! I am glad I can help. In all honesty even though it comes with a really good lock the glass is quite thin and easy to break I suspect. I am only using mine for temp and humidity control, it is working a absolute treat though I'm starting to run out of room in mine now. Best to go for the next size up than what you think you need.

    Hi Simon,
    Thanks for the video. I just bought hc-50 version and I have a question: does the green led light blink all the time on your cabinet? I'm asking b/c on mine the whole display (the green led included) turns off after ~30sec and you can't really tell if the cabinet is even on.. It turns on again only when I press any of the control buttons.

    • @SimonPhillipsPhoto
      @SimonPhillipsPhoto  Před rokem +1

      No problems at all! With mine I just had a look and all the lights are off including the display, it basically just dims completely, but if you get a light onto the display you’ll see the humidity and temperature readout. It’s certainly on all the time, I think it use’s very little power and it doesn’t always need to be running since the cabinet is completely sealed. I have only found the lights to come back on when I open it up and when it needs to control the levels inside the cabinet.

      @SimonPhillipsPhoto The display on mine goes completely off after ~30secs and no readout is visible until I press a button. Which I find very annoying. The reason I asked is that in the video I noticed that your cabinet's display kept blinking with green (the leftmost led light).

      Maybe there’s a slight difference on the time out due to my case being larger more than double the size of yours. I can guarantee the unit is still working even when you can’t see the display lighting up.

    what to do with the dry cabinets if no current? do i need to unplug and put silica gels?

    • @SimonPhillipsPhoto
      @SimonPhillipsPhoto  Před 5 dny +1

      I’ve not had this problem before, perhaps there’s a fuse which has blown. I don’t think you need to replace the drying out unit. If you can’t get it working again even after talking with the manufacturer you could always use silica gel packs, pelican sells them in metal cases and when they are no longer effective you put them in the oven for 20 minutes for them to become good again.

      Yes it does. Best to buy the next size up to what you think so you have plenty of room, I now have more stuff in it today.

      @SimonPhillipsPhoto  Před 17 dny

      @moyg2932 most of the time I keep the caps on, but if I’ve just been out in wet conditions then the caps come off so it can dry out.
