Jonny Buckland and Will Champion from Coldplay surprise Jodie Whittaker.
In an exclusive collaboration for BBC Children in Need, a whole host of stars have got together to record an entire album to raise money for this year’s appeal. It will be released on Friday 1 November in conjunction with Silva Screen Records.
Each star has handpicked a song significant to them for the album. Recorded at the legendary Rak and Abbey Road Studios in London, they each received expert guidance from Brit and Mercury award-winning record producers and songwriters, Guy Chambers and Jonathan Quarmby.
You can pre-order your copy now and watch a special documentary on the making of the album on BBC One on 30th November.

When he said yellow is about 20 years old now my heart dropped
Wow. How old are all the other colours then.
iggydip I find that way more amusing than I probably should! Nice one!
Yeah this gettin' old thing suuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks! LOL! Sigh.
My first intro to a 'modern' british song was Yellow in Leeds, 20 yrs ago (holy shit!!) / I was on my 2nd trip to the UK & heard it in a friend's apt where we were staying. It was amazing!!
How old are we? Mid life is knocking.
She's pretty adorable, I love how she doesn't lose her accent in the lyrics
A proper Northern Lass. Although she is from the wrong side of the Pennines. Lol! Nah. Red. White. It's all the same to me. As i say - Northern is Northern. Nice one, Jodie... \m/ (:o)
Clive Sullivan how’s she gonna do that 😂
It was a decision by her, she wanted it to be truthful (song was for her late nephew)
In one of the other videos she talked about how she kept it on purpose when she was singing.
Im yorkshire, sheffield to be precise n I beg to differ..No offence to Jodie but yorkshire accent can be annoying as
At 1:41 I love how she smiles and turns because someone compliments her, then she suddenly realized it's Coldplay. She's adorable.
"I'm 36 and I feel like I'm 13...."
Sounds appropriate.
Such a genuine reaction, lovely. She actually reminds me of my late sister
You can't fake that. Absolutely genuine emotions here. Spine chilling.
her reaction when they join in is one of the most genuinely authentically beautiful reactions ive ever seen.
I come back to that bit anytime I need to remember there are still beautiful things in this world
especially because that guitar tone is just IDENTICAL to the record, which is kind of amazing so many years later
@@cabletelcontar5440 I just came back here today to watch it again as I remembered how nice it is and how it moved her.
It's been a while since I seen it - but I needed it today.
@@YouRich92 I rewatch every few months just to restore my faith in people
She's so cute
"I feel like i'm 13," You are The Thirteenth Doctor!!
I'm regenerating from laughter
WhovianLife Ahahha 😂
Nice!
As if she is, the 13th doctor is a badly written fanfic,
@Farin Bloodmaine Win a goldfish here
okay but when the drummer and guitarist started playing and Jodie like nearly started crying, I had to cry lmao
Cera Whittaker you mean will and Jonny
Ben Garcia exactly thank you!!
how ridiculous
Cera Whittaker I did the same. So beautiful!
Time of death 2:55
You can really tell Jodie was a fan of the band and of the song. In an interview she said the reason she started crying is because she's heard this song all her life and it was like her whole life story in that one song. Such a sweetheart
Did you see her on Graham Norton when Chris Martin asked her if she wanted to sit by the drums whilst they performed on the show?
@@leonbanks5728 Yes, what a lovely moment for her. She couldn’t control her excitement.
@@chocolatechipkookie3439 It was and it reminded me of this moment too.
@@leonbanks5728 Oh my goodness, I haven't seen that. Thanks for the tip-off.
@@laraharriman5121 No problem.
Jodie is just the sweetest, cutest, most beautiful woman
When Johnny hit that riff, Jodie cried, I cried, you cried.
Yep, that about sums it up
Naveen Amola *we all cried*
JONNY
It was as if something divine just swooped through the air....
how can one not?
This is what music is about. Bringing people together, not voting people off.
Yes! Thank you.
So true. TV is becoming ridiculous when even cooking shows have to have winners and losers.
Truest comment I've ever read on CZcams.
isnt brexit all about voting people off? what weird times we live in.....
Yeah - BUH BUH
That guitar entry is epic! I get goosebumps every time
Same here... No matter how often I listen to it. Also at Coldplay's original gigs, the guitar and drum entry is phenomenal, but here the cute and overwhelmed reaction of Jodie at this moment brought tears to my eyes, in addition to the goosebumps.
I love Jodie 💀 the way she said “I just destroyed your song” and two seconds later said “actually, I made it better.”
To those saying "she's singing in her accent" this is not a highly trained singer we observe here. She's clearly had some training but what we're witnessing is an aunt singing to her beloved nephew who has passed away (revealed in an earlier related video) and as an uncle myself I can empathize. She's singing to the stars in her lives Family. Loved ones. Those closest to her. We just happen to be along for the ride. She's not a mad person in a box in this moment. She's not playing a role or trying to be someone she's not. She's just Aunt Jodie. I think that makes this the most beautiful cover of this song ever recorded. It captures something words alone cannot describe. That's what music does. A toast to Lady Whittaker. Salud.
Agreed and also there is another video about this, with David Tennant, where she asks if she can sing in her own accent and is told yes she can.
your response just brought tears to my eyes :) "She's singing to the stars ...those closest to her"
Thanks for this - it makes it even more gorgeous!
@@JoannaRevelleCreative she's actually singing it to her nephew who died, in the other video her brother and sister in law where there and she had a picture of her nephew in the booth, tears all round 😭😭
czcams.com/video/ZTyOyzZ-Omg/video.html
I love the mirrored reactions:
Coldplay: We get to play music with the Doctor!
Jodie: I get to sing with Coldplay!
David is a Coldplay fan too (he said it in an interview i just watched) so why don't they meet one day? (But I'm not sure if Chris should be there, I don't think we'd handle the wholesomeness)
@@BlueStar4040 I read in the liner notes to the album that David sang backup on Jodie's song, so there's that. :)
@@daffy8995 ok yes we couldn't handle it but just imagine...
3 people constantly fan girling abt each other...
Someone make that happen
@@BlueStar4040 David was at Abbey Road with Jodie. Saw a video of them together. Seems like they are friends.
@@vic5015 cool so that means david would hate the idea of coming back and replacing jodie...
Beat that haters
I love the mutual excitement.
She’s so excited to be singing with Coldplay and they seem excited to sing with the Doctor.
The fact that Jodie sings it ”in her accent” enhance the authenticity for me. Good job ♥️
As soon as Johnny’s guitar comes up I immediately understand why she wanna cry. It’s an amazing feeling!
@Alpha Echo You have sinned. Coldplay is one of the best modern day bands.
@Alpha Echo mediocre?
I got goosebumps
Wait, are you me?
Chris W hahahaha hello! twins
That guitar riff was just so iconically Coldplay. I think that was the moment she realised she’s actually singing with the band itself.
That was a magic moment! I prefered the sound on this coverage than the final mix. Wish we could see and hear the whole song in that magical raw take. That really was brilliant!
If you're ever having a crap day, just sit back and watch this and I guarantee that life's joys will find you again!
“Thank you for singing our song” is, in my opinion, something that genuinely comes from a musician. I believe they really mean it.
They are morphing into brothers, they look so alike.
The two big, ginger bearded baldies😍😍😍😍😍
Jungle Jim lmao yeah
Daddies!
I thought they were twins. I did know the song and the band name, but i didn't know anything about them. The video title and song name got me to click. I didn't even know who the woman is until i looked her up.
i thought the same thing lmao
“Top two life moments, and I’ve got married and had a kid!” I love her.
I guess the hubby has just been relegated. I hope he doesn't take that too badly. ;)
I hope you never have kids.
@@dennismoore2752 Oh Lord... lighten up, Dennis.
It's really nice when someone is a fan of the BAND and not just one member. Some people might not have recognized Jonny and Will because to them Coldplay is just Chris. But of you're really a fan of the band, it doesn't matter who shows up. The feeling of awe would be the same.
👏👏👏
Totally! Even more so considering Chris Martin is such a great front man with such a large and wonderful presence...but it's never about him. It's about music and love and doing with his brothers. That vibe transcends everything.

Watch the Graham Norton episode when Coldplay perform My Universe and Chris brings her onstage. She's so funny, Chris is so friendly, and the performance is absolutely top notch. I watch it when I'm feeling a bit down. The way she is such a fangirl, instead of being up herself, it's adorable. She's such a lovely soul. So grounded, humble and genuinely sweet
Jodie is such a genuine human being and it shows in every single person she meets, fan or even her literal heroes. No matter how many hundred or thousands of fans she meets in a day, she's always grinning and thanking each and every one for coming and thanking us for loving the show. They say don't meet your heroes- she is the exception. Every time.
Agreed, she's a sweet soul, with that humble, genuine Lancashire way, don't change Jodie, don't you ever change
Honest to god, British celebrities are so genuinely down to earth
I guess meeting the queen humbles the f out of you 😂
yes and they arent overrated too
@@sirgod2017 what do you mean??
Wait until you see Noeal Gallagher lmao
@@abdelrahmanwael4449 excellent point!!!. Flies right in the face of my original comment😂
1:47 jodie having to remind herself that she's a grown woman will always be hilarious to me
And how she reacted when they started playing... 🤩
I really don't understand the hate for Coldplay. They seem genuinely nice guys, who happen to be musically gifted. There are those who moan about the songs....why? Coldplay's output has been consistently excellent, and varied. Watching these guys just step into playing these songs like a pair of comfy old shoes, and being pitch perfect is amazing to see, and their live performances sound pretty much like the records. Every performance they do is 1000%. They put the same effort into doing a TV studio performance as they do for a big arena......that's real talent. They are exceptionally talented
Wow this is why Coldplay is the number one band in the world.
Honestly could watch a 90-minute documentary about this one recording session. Really cool to hear her singing before all the post-production and stuff, she's even better than I thought.
There is a documentary about all of the recording sessions. Think it aired last night. However I’m not sure if it’s available out with the U.K. for anyone that is.
You should watch her cover Angels :) ICR the movie. Her character is drunk and its just karaoke lol, but imo she sounds really nice,

@@mizumielric thank you so much for the clip! Watching behind the scenes was a real treat and it brings so much joy to see everyone giving their best and pouring the hearts out for Children in Need! I could watch it over and over again.
I love how she is so self aware and star struck. She's such a genuine person- like a little bubble of joy and I'm so happy she's the one they picked for the 13th doctor!
Aethetikos Yes, very Genuine.
She's completely adorable isn't she. Goodness shines out of her.
Of course she's genuine, we don't do 'fake' in Yorkshire...
Yes, she definitely very genuine
@Tech10K haha theres always one fool who feels clever using the word "woke".
And I have thoroughly enjoyed her as the Dr to be honest. Tell me do you not think shes a good actress or is it the fact she's a woman?
1:42 the moment the doctor became a weeping angel
I’ve watched that 2:56 part for more than 20 times where the riff hits 💯
That moment when Jodie totally fangirled at 2:55 when they kicked in was just perfect. That's a moment that's going to live with her for the rest of her life.
@I HATE CHEESE house burned down?
Imagine being a fangirl of Coldplay. How embarrassing.
I love how her nose crinkles when she smiles. And she did a great job on the song.
Her nose is beautiful!!!
Her reaction when they joined just added more authenticity and trueness to the event!!!
How can anybody not love Jodie Whittaker?! I love her, brilliant as The Doctor!!
She's lovely and amazing. Can't remember any of the episodes except maybe the flux season, but love her
Well honestly I think she’s a really good actress, but I still don’t like her as the Doctor. She clearly loves the role but I feel like her personality and acting style just doesn’t fit with the doctor. Not least of course the sex change which I feel was just forced on the audience because of cultural demands rather than it actually fitting the story. For me Matt Smith was the last great doctor. With David Tennant probably be in the very greatest. Miss you so much David.
@Gromit AVGCP AYTCA I know I know. It feels kind of honestly obvious considering they were obviously trying to do it for the woke crowd. It was shovelled down our throats and they did it for the vast majority of her stories as well rather than being actually smoothly done. It’s a shame really because it looks like they are going to do that again with the next doctor, which somehow is now making me wish that Jodie Whitaker that she still stayed on. They really can’t be satisfied it seems at the BBC without making things woke just for the sake of it. Matt Smith is probably the last great Doctor.
@@adventuresinpainting That was the last season. There was some very memorable episodes in the previous two seasons, but apart from that the rest don’t really stick in the heart as much as the David Tennant and Matt Smith seasons did.
Shame about the scripts.
I loved how embarrassed she got when coldplay walked in to see her and how she freaked out was so sweet. Oh and when she sang for them and they came in with the guitars and she almost began to cry made me so happy to see her so happy. Jodie is such a lovely human being and she really does make me proud to be Yorkshire with that accent lol

At 0:44 when he mentioned "The Doctor" the end to end grin on his face was priceless.
Hearing English people say "The DOCTOR" makes The Doctor seem very, very real. Like he/she could show up to help at any time. Fantastic!
Why people is so mad at this woman in the comments? She's an actress, not a singer. Ofc She's not gonna hit every note in perfect sound. Also, calling her reaction an 'fake acting'? Y'all never went emotional for something? Anything? How sad.
This was made for a good cause and both Coldplay and her gave their best for it. Don't sh*t on their effort :)
They're just angry that they don't like the new series and blame everything on poor Jodie...
It so clearly was not fake at all. You can’t take a double take like that

@@arjunatreya3343 Tbh I've never been a great fan of Coldplay (I'm more of a Travis fan) but I've got to applaud this.
That´s because all of them come from an era where looks are not the key thing that tells them apart 8at least not in these type of bands, since in boybands, girlbands and teen singers looks where everything). if you see the early Coldplay videos, all of them fit in their role, none of them are super cute or over produced and it´s mostly the song that shines. Meanwhile Maroon 5 although a good band, overproduced everything to look extra cute and of course, Adam Levine was the main focus because he was the usual "pretty boy" vocalist to attract the ladies. That´s why (me thinks) the rest of the band is... A band and he´s Adam Levine. Mostly because of the whole male model stereotype that sells.
