    Kind of weird the fallback for the preconstructed fresh out of the box was elemental late game and not just boon elves to begin with. First time I saw the deck I scratched my head at how poorly efficient the synergies were. Glad to see there's still people who have common sense and know how to build decks! Cheers mate!

    I totally agree with you that anthems are more powerful in Obuun than simply a landfall theme, the only difference that I use is that I try to use landfall token generators like scute swarm, Avenger of zendikar, Phylath, Omnath and felidar Retreat in order to have a board pressence. Great deck as always! Cheers!

    My favorite thing about Obuun are it's colors. Naya is the perfect combo for this kind of deck. There are some suggestions I'd like to make because there of my favorite elves fit right into these colors. It's Mirror Entity, Chameleon Colossus, and Taurean Mauler. Changelings!
    The deck is pretty stacked already so it might be tough to find space for them but I think they would be fun includes, Mirror Entity especially. Being able to pay a relatively small amount of mana to boost your entire team of Elves base power and toughness to stack your anthems and counters on top of, plus turning your awakened lands onto elves themselves so they can pick up those anthems as well seems pretty strong to me. The other two serve to be really strong beaters. The Colossus can pump itself to really high numbers (even higher with mirari's wake) and even has protection from black; the Mauler is a great spot for +1/+1 counters and maybe a bit of early bait for whatever removal our opponents could have.
    A final suggestion would be The Ozolith. Being able to save your counters and redistribute them later seems pretty strong, but maybe not enough in a deck more focused on anthems.

    I've built Obuun up as an absolute beast of a Landfall deck. It has massive creature token generation with Omnath, Baloths and several others. But I actually love how quickly i am able to build Obuun's counters up and swing with a massive Trampler every turn. Thats because i have built up the mana base to get more and more landfall triggers every turn. Its not a tricky deck or fancy, but it is effective. Lands matter!

    There are so many Boardwipes that hit nonland permanents. Also possibilities to make my lands creatures and also make my creatures lands. That's how I play Obuun and it's getting better and better (still working on the deck) .

  • @oldmarcussales
    @oldmarcussales Před 2 lety +2

    This Elf tribal idea seems very interesting... Obuun was the first deck I bought, and although out of the box it's very fun, even in casual games it's a lackluster deck. The fact that it is so easily removable doesn't help. The other idea I had of building him was in a kind of voltron deck, but hitting with the lands, but I think it would end up being an expensive deck in CMC terms. This Elf tribal makes his combat ability matter and makes his landfall ability still have a purpose. I might test it someday.

    Hey I like your video and I'll print your list for a test play.
    However I went all the landfall way and it works really well. I added some key equipment like the sunforger (adds protection too) then some indestructible lands and things like needle spires and and awakening of vitu gazi which puts 9 counters on a land. (its a valid strategy to get the landfall after combat and put counters on a land which is much harder to remove than obuun himself and can attack right after board wipes when you play obuun).
    Then there is moraug and other extra combat rounds. Colossification is another nice finisher... It will tap obuun but the land can attack with 23/23 + counters.
    And ofc scute swarm and felidar retreat and all other fun landfall things are there..

I have it also playing subtheme of Elf tribal, so my list has many of the same cards as this deck tech. Simic and Golgari do far more work in this regard than a naya deck when it comes to +1/+1 counters. There isn't enough value in focusing purely on +1/+1 counters and landfall to justify the investment of time and resources with Obuun.(He could fit into a landfall deck of another commander's 99 better than helming his own.)
