I've watched several videos, and this is the best one! Because the winters can get into the negatives, I wanted to add a solar panel heating pad. Is that possible? I think this was well with it. :) I can't wait to start building. :)

Felines love boxes or places that are dead silent and devoid of outside smells.... They also love to perch to see the entire area which is why you often see them climbing the tallest trees...they can get down....but wouldn't you rather be carried by a nice warm human than walking 🤣

Hello,
I stumbled upon your site while searching for plans to build an outdoor insulated cathouse. This is going to be my first attempt doing something of this nature and I was wondering if you guys had written out instructions - IE: what size cuts, how many, etc etc. I did watch the video, but I do well with written instructions.
Hoping you do so I can make one for the strays I've seen in my yard this winter.

how do u cool a cat house in the summer time when the temps are extreme?
Why would your cat be in a box when it's hot? A cat house like this is literally for keeping them warm during the cold months. During the summer, Murder Cloud often sleeps on the top where the roof gives him shade.

Why can’t you bring him in the house?
We certainly can, and do. But he doesn't always want to come in. He was born out there, and he likes the outdoors. We did end up adding a heated mat that keeps his condo nice and warm through the really cold months. He's got it pretty good no matter where he wants to be.

An idea... What about giving access to your plans in the future?
@@xof-woodworkinghobbyist We've tried that. It's not only a lot of work producing the plans, but it inevitably leads to a lot of questions that have to be answered. We produce 4-8 videos a week between Maker Break and Belts & Boxes, which is a LOT for a team of 3. So plans just are not high on our priority list at the moment.
Often I design our projects in Sketchup, and I'll gladly share the Sketchup files when people request them. You can open and edit them in the free version of Sketchup, but you still have to know how to do that.

Nice house. Great name for a cat :). Hopefully the animal nazis won’t knock on your door for having that cat outside. People forget cats grow a nice warm fuzzy layer of for it cold weather. They stay cozy. Live confidently and peacefully

Murder Cloud has lived his whole 12 year life outside. He's out in the woods every day, he hunts all kinds of animals, and he EATS them when he catches them. :) That's rare of course, and we feed him cat food daily.
Something a lot of people don't realize is that if a cat is exposed to enough sunlight daily, their system realizes when the sun goes down early (the Fall) and they start to grow an "Undercoat". It's a layer of short hairs that keep the cat warm. It's the sunlight that triggers this behavior, not the temperature, which is why indoor cats do the same thing if they live in a house with a lot of sunlight. Crazy right?
Murder Cloud has slept through 10-degree weather and didn't have a problem. He's always had a place to sleep that's layered in Straw, which helps him retain heat through the night. This new house I built is FAR better insulated, and I'm adding a heating pad that will help with the REALLY cold nights.

Actually I don't think you should have put straw in that cat house because the cat could eat it and get really sick I am actually really smart I know a ton of things I'm like 29 and I already graduated college and high school. So I should know these things.

Why don't you bring the cat inside when it's cold out?
That's what normal people will do.
Cats don’t mind being outside..they grow a nice fuzzy layer of fur for that.

Cats still get cold. Even with all the fur.
@@saulgoodman2018 I’ve had many cats that preferred to be outside. I’d bring it in...they would go outside on their own and stay there.

And plus,
Where is the cat going to sleep if it sleeps in straw? It needs toys, it needs meals, and it needs a comfortable blanket like on the floor for the cat to sleep on instead of straw. Don't you know anything about cats?😡 Need comfortable space and actual food! 😠
