About Dude Dad:
Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a rural South Dakota born and Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 4 kids and over 500+ videos. We also have a TV show on the Magnolia Network called Super Dad. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.

Bro, wasn't expecting to cry right now. What a beautiful message to leave for your child. You also opened my mind to what my parents went through raising me. Just... beautiful.
Yeah, it's been something on my heart for a while now
I know I was like expecting something like a lot of people do about you know your oldest child your middle child your youngest child type of stereotypes. And I really don't like those they can be funny but this was gosh I'm starting to cry again😢😅❤
I'm not crying, your crying 🙃
Dude, that hit me harder than I expected. I’m not even a parent. Just the oldest kid and now I understand my parents more.
@@DudeDad God loves you and Jesus died on the cross for you and you @KairaisnotaLiopleurodon and you
Didn’t know dude dad was gonna make me cry. Spot on Taylor!
He's made me cry a few times.
Thanks, Taylor. As the oldest of four, this hit home for me. I got all the privileges (always riding shotgun in the front seat), but I also shouldered the responsibility of helping my single mom raise my other three siblings. What an honor ❤
Helping your single mom raise your siblings is extremely hard when you’re 13 and you have to grow up fast cuz you have to take care of your mom too because she’s so depressed she won’t eat. Forget having time to do your own homework. It’s strange none of my teachers even had a parent teacher conference with how much I struggled in school.
@@Mrs.NRalphs I was young, too. But my mom courageously left my alcoholic father, worked two jobs and went to school to support us and give us a better life. I feel blessed. Others had it much tougher 😔
@@Easy_Going__ It took me calling the cops on my dad also an alcoholic for her to finally leave him. I think she finally realized it was doing us more harm than good. She was trying to stick it out until my youngest sister was 18 I’m glad she didn’t. Although she did work to support us she the divorce and being a single mom stress caused her to fall into depression. She lost so much weight from not eating. I had to make her eat a little before leaving the table like I was the parent. Plus make sure my sister did their homework and do chores and cook dinner.
I have 7 grown children across a span of 21 years. No truer words were ever spoken. I have apologized to my two oldest kids because I was learning how to parent on them.
I’m working Taylor!! I needed a laugh and instead got a heartwarming love letter! I didn’t want to cry but well, it’s happening now! I hope nobody notices!!
you coworkers will just think you're really passionate about your work :)
@@DudeDad I do appreciate it!!
Why you have me crying when I only have one child who has her own one child. 😭😭😭😭
I’m not crying your crying !😢
Being a grandparent is the best, isn't it?
I was very badly abused as a child. My oldest daughter and I truly learned how to love together. It was the most beautiful experience. She's 35 now and we talk daily. ❤❤
My oldest is 26. I have said for ages how much I learned from him and how he made me a better parent for his younger siblings.
Oh man. This made me so emotional. My first turns 15 today. Everything you say here is so true. It’s a new frontier having a growing teen son. 😭
For Pete sake!!! I'm watching this just before leaving for my oldests senior pictures😢 This is definitely a huge year! ❤
First borns are the best. IT starts it ALL! Why you making me cry here man. YEASUS, cutting a huge bag of onions here.
I just sent this to my 27 y.o. son...who helped me raise his brother, his other brother, his other other brother, his littlest brother, and finally his surprise twin baby sisters who just turned 18. We drove home from the hospital with the flashers on with him, but literally stopped for burgers on the way home with his sisters. He was there for me always...he can change diapers and put a puzzle together while rocking a bouncy like nobody's business.
Thanks for sharing...a lot of smiles and memories revisited.
Dude dad!!! I found you when I was recovering from surgery and the first post I saw was the one where you just talk to us about what becoming a dad was like. You cried, I cried, I forwarded it to my wife, she cried.
I love and appreciate your crazy antics, but your philosophical take on your experience as a dad really floats my boat. As an Early Childhood educator since the early 80’s, I’ve watched Fathering become “ a thing”. We educators always knew fathers ( and their partners and kids) were really missing out! Now? 100% of the children I care for have involved, present fathers and mothers! ( or two fathers or two mothers) what a wonderful world! And, I think YOU helped make it fun and cool and EXPECTED. I’m so grateful for your work. We are so lucky you and your wife do what you do. 💜
Man, That hit hard. I just took my 1st born who is 7 out for his first Yes Day and I realized I need to do it more often. Sometimes, I’m a grumpy old dad because I’m just trying to figure it all out too and I need to let my guard down. Thanks for posting, Taylor.
Made my eyes water- I was blessed with 4 kids and this is so true!!
Team Four Kids!
This made me tear up! All of it is so true!
Awesome take! Great point and so true
My mom, dad, only sister, brother in law, wife and first child are all firstborns...I'm surrounded 🤣
I lost my first child to a very rare/fast growing brain cancer when she was 6. Enjoy your firstborns, and all the others that come after. We never know how long we have with them. 💗
My husband and I have 3 boys, and my oldest just turned 8 yesterday and this hit home, and I didn't think I was going to cry, but this was something I needed to hear today so thank you Taylor 😊
Glad this resonated...Thanks for watching :)
This is so true!!! I was just thinking all this with our oldest, and how each stage is new for the both of us. ❤ Thanks for making this video.
Glad it resonated with others!
Wayamint, i was supposed to get the NEW stuff?!?! 😂
I was thinking same thing! I got my cousins hand-me-downs lol
haha, he's the "oldest cousin" so he doesn't have that opportunity
I got my older cousins' hand-me-downs....
I’m not crying, my eyes are sweating. So well said Taylor
Its So true that parents grow with the first born child. ❤️
Yup, just trying to figure it all out!
As the first and last child - an only child, i can really appreciate expressing 2 sides to EVERY story! Yours and ours! Now THATS REAL parents! You might have not had the knowledge for a first born but you definitely had the spirit of being a parent - a rare meaningful parent for life that so many kids would have loved even your "mistakes ". Keep being you!
I appreciate the message!
Beautiful message!! As a first born, I’m a little jelly of your first born 😂
When my twin bros were born, most of my parents friends meeting me for the first time would say “I didn’t know you existed”. Let me just say, what a wonderful thing to tell a child, for sure will not cause any issues 😂😂😂
So perfectly said. Thank you, from 58 year old, oldest child and now grandmother. ❤
I clicked knowing I’m gonna laugh then cry. You did not disappoint
Shout out to all the first borns (including myself) ❤ this is so true
Wow! that hit home 100%! Thank you for such a beautiful ode to first borns!! I'm not crying, your crying 😭❤
I LOVED IT!!
So totally true, my firstborn is one of my greatest friends. Now that they are adults with there own kids and I’m (older🤣) , it’s their turn now….
This is the kind of thing which I felt but could never put to words… wish I could’ve heard this from my dad or that I’ve made him proud as his son.
I'm not crying your crying. This is well said and on point
Jeeeeeeeeezus, that gave my eyes the allergies ❤❤❤ You’re a really wonderful Dad💕
lol... wait what... I'm the oldest - I didn't get squat! Siblings are the best though!
My oldest is twenty now. He has three younger siblings still at home. This is true in every way. Beautifully expressed. Thank you.
This was really beautiful, Taylor! I'm wiping tears right now 😭
It’s been 34 years since our first was born. We raised her and her 3 siblings. This is so true, raising your first is a crash course of OTJ training. Mistakes were made, but she’s done a fantastic job of being an adult. As have 75% of our kids. That last one is still struggling, hopefully he’ll get his act together soon.
Thanks for this heartfelt message. The tears are real.
Oh god my tiny little heart! That was so sweet.
I'm not crying, you are!!!❤😊
Dang Taylor, you didn't have to make me start crying at work!
You're comedy is on another level, but these are by far my favorite @DudeDad videos!
You come to this channel for the laughs and get kicked in the feels!! I'm a fan of this video for sure.
How precious!!!! Love it!!!
Thank you! 😊
@@DudeDad you are so welcome! You have such a beautiful family!!
Sending our firstborn off to college, out of state, this summer. Very meaningful and sweet video, thank you! ❤
God bless you and your wonderful family. I wish you nothing but the best.
That was not what I was expecting from you. 😢. It was so sincere and absolutely heartfelt. So true. Ya all are amazing parents. ❤
Amazingly done! Such a sweet perspective.
So sweet! I love when you make videos like this. Our first gets the most, but also has the most responsibility, expectations, and (like you said) mistakes from us. She handles it with such grace and joy. Definitely type A! ❤️
My first was born 5 weeks ago and I am in tears watching this. How can you be so funny and light hearted but also so sincere and real? You're an inspiration.
I'm a first born about to turn 60 🥰 This was sweet, funny and pretty accurate. Love this 🥰
What a beautiful message! I am a firstborn, and this really hits home. My husband and daughter are also firstborns. ❤
As someone who just lost my Dad, this video is a beautiful tribute Theo will love forever. It has me in years. It's so compelling how deeply you Love Heidi and your children. ❤️ God bless you
I'm not a parent and I'm not the oldest child, but I am crying while watching this. You're a great human being!
Just got home from my first born's graduation. Watched this and broke down. Needed words for this. Thank you.
Wow, this brought tears to my eyes. I wish that my parents had told me this, so thank-you for putting it so thoughtfully in words.
Watching this today, on my oldest's 16th birthday, it was impossible not to cry. So very relatable. Thank you for putting it all into words.
My first born is a dad of three girls. Loved your video. Brought tears to my eyes. Love you all
Ugh ...this was so emotional and well said❤ i feel this for my first born too
I just had our Second join us a few weeks ago and everything you said has hit home big time. Thank you for sharing! I really wanted to share this on Facebook but Facebook has blocked me from sharing your video!
Dang it Taylor! There's no other person who makes me cry more than you!
What a sweet message for Daddy's right hand man.
Love a return to this type of video…and rings with truth in every parent’s heart
Totes crying. Gotta send this to my parents. ❤❤❤❤ Thank you for so eloquently and sincerely sharing!! 💖 Happy Birthday to your 1st born!! 🎉🎉
This was such a beautiful message. Such a blessing.
Didn't expect to cry! What a beautiful heartwarming message!
Crying as I watch this. Such open hearted honesty. Bless you, Heidi and your family. Well said!!!
I love you and your wife. Your love and dedication to family is beautiful.
Omg having tears in my eyes. Love how you Guys remind me of me and my husband and our 3 little Kids. Love your Videos. Saying Hello from Germany.
This came at a great time…going through some teenage years with my oldest and it’s not been so easy lately. They have no idea how much we love them but how imperfect we are in parenting. We will make mistakes. And we will make correct but hard decisions too. In the end, we love our kids more than anything and you just hope when they’re out of the home, that they have no doubt mom and dad loved them like crazy. ♥️
yeah , this has been on my heart a lot lately...I'm sure i'll have to come back to this during teen years!
@@DudeDad I’m looking forward to that. You and your wife are a good team…you’ll do great.😊
As a dad - and a second on the way - this video got me! Appreciate the time you took to make such a special positive video with a great message!
The love that you and Heidi have for your family is palpable and beautiful.
2:25 i got another parenting quote that will make you shred a tear 'you will hold your child for the last time and you wont even know it'
This gave me a tear. I feel the same way about my firstborn. Well said, Taylor.
Now I’m crying, I wish I had parents like you, being first can be horrible. 😔
Wow, this is a perspective I needed TODAY. As my oldest and I have been having a hard time, that quote was perfect and something I will definitely be sharing with her. Thank you.
What a wonderful father, your earnest love for your kids makes me feel hope.
Thank you Taylor ❤ this is so incredibly true and here’s to our first kids that literally changed our lives for the absolute better!
Right on! So grateful to have friends who had kids first, so we could learn from them and do what worked for our kids. ❤
Heidi and Taylor, thank you for all of your videos. We feel like we connect with you guys, as we have 4 kids as well, ages 8-1. With each new child, we were laughing and crying along with your pregnancy/parenting videos. Thanks for keeping it real and keeping us sane 🥰
I have been having such a rough week as a mom of a toddler and 7 mo old. This video gave me so much encouragement. Thank you
Sharp left turn to exactly what I needed to hear as a mom 😭 their firsts are our firsts too. They get us at our best and our worst. But we’re always right there beside them.
Thank you for this perspective ❤️
I wish I had a dad like you. Keep being awesome!
loves you guys, thank you for always sharing❤
I'm not crying your crying! 😭🥰
As a first born, this hit. As a parent, spot on! I have told my oldest many times how much I have learned from her! Love your videos!
this is the most beautifull video i have ever watched you are an a amazing dad and mom and dont ever forget it
This is so beautiful and so true. If only our firstborn's realized how much they changed us...how deeply we fell head over heels in love with them, how they taught us to love unconditionally...it's been the most beautiful journey of my life!!!!❤
So absolutely true as my oldest son is now 19. And my youngest is 7. We have 6 children. There is such a learning process with parenting! It never quits. I learn something new every day. 💚
Yep, that sounds right for our first who's 18 now. We give everything to him but we also make adjustments for the other kids to raise them in a better way... This video was so touching. I always wanted to have a dad who felt this way about me.
Your kids are so lucky. What a beautiful message, you are giving them fantastic childhoods.
As the oldest girl in the family, I didn’t have a childhood. I was just another parent to my many siblings. Expected to take care of them, regardless of what I wanted or needed. Don’t make your older kids little parents.
I had a serious discussion with a friend of mine who wants four or five kids and has two already. She asked me how it was growing up in a big family. And I said horrible, I was the oldest. I didn’t have a childhood. And she said she’s heard this perspective more than once, and has since decided to wait for her two to grow up more before she starts on the next two or three.
Beautifully spoken.
Absolutely beautiful and well said…my son turns 1 in a couple of days and I’m due for our baby girl in May.
This past year has been so many trials and errors, but it’s also been the absolute best year of my life raising my own child. It is beautiful seeing them grow. It goes by sooo fast..
Made me tear up to be honest😢
so many things I’ve learned and also growing up along the way. I will cherish these moments for rest of my life.
Nothing compares to our son and he has brought us so much joy. ❤️
Makes me want to grab him out of his crib right now and give him a good long hug🥰
You sob I wasn’t ready for that 🤣. Keep it up man ! Amazing
Sitting here crying and sent this to my 15 year old son. Thank you for so eloquently expressing parenting and the journey we go on with these amazing humans we are honored to be with.
My first will be 38 next month and his first will be 13. The torch has been passed and it’s so much fun seeing him raise his daughter with very similar qualities. Both are driven people to succeed in everything they do. Both are fun and take charge kind of people. 😊
So sweet and he will never forget the love of his parents. They are lucky children. So many children don't have this and it's so sad. God bless you all. They grow up way too fast.
Dad of two boys in tears right now. This is gold. Thank you.
Awe, that was sweet. I imagine that's true, our oldest is 6 and we just had our first girl for our fourth. I expect to have a similar learning experience with each of my kids though, especially 1 and 4. But they're all so different, so far, that we're learning a lot with each one of them!
So beautiful and spot on. My husband and I are both the oldest and our oldest kid also has special needs, so yeah...lots of firsts!
Yup, this definitely got me. I look back at the plethora of mistakes I've made with my firstborn and it is crushing. We've been to hell and back with him, but *man* he's such a great kid.
Oh my goodness.. wasn't expecting to cry 😭.. it's so true.. I feel this so much with our first born.
