- Jon Favreau rolled into goop the other day with 1) his professional plancha grill and 2) some very strong opinions about how to make the perfect Cubano (which he mastered in his 2014 film Chef with help from Roy Choi). Throwing in ghee, Chinese mustard, and ponzu, GP upped the sandwich with her clean-equally superlative-version.

When watching the movie I saw something that made my day. When Chef and his son went to the Fruiteria on SW 8th St. and 13 Ave. in Miami, I lived 6 houses down behind the store which was called Indian River fruit market back in the 50's. My friend, Eddie Simms & I would go in and push a broom, wipe down the cabinets, anything that needed cleaning. Our pay consisted of bubble gum, ice cream sandwiches, and a soft drinks. Talk about cheap labor. I was 12 years old at the time.
I can't do the goop thing, I'll not give up butter and the veggies aren't my thing. But I think this was a great way to demonstrate how to adjust a recipe to fit your own tastes and needs.

I used to work at BONANZA STEAKHOUSE BACK IN 1986-1987 in West Haven, Connecticut, STARTED OUT AS A DISHWASHER, WORK MY WAY TO GRILL COOK ( FLAME BROIL )
Also worked at The Greenery Restaurant in New Haven Connecticut on Chapel street during the same time.
Jon made a masterpiece and the girl made a chicken wrap. Not the same.

Love ya Gwyneth but that is not a Cubano. It’s a pretty classic (and very tasty) Asian chicken wrap. I would eat both but try to leave the traditional Cubano for occasions.

im not vegan but i use vegannaise . i prefer the flavor of it instead of real mayo. the slightly sour (from vinegar) eggy taste of mayo is kind of gross to me. vegannaise adds creaminess without the flavors i dislike in mayo.

I'm not easily impressed but I'll admit when I'm wrong. I just read an article about Gwyneth's kitchen. I think it's in NYC or somewhere on the east coast. It was beautifully designed but I muttered under my breath, "Yeah right. She's never cooked even a grilled cheese sandwich in there." Maybe she has! She sure appeared to know her way around the kitchen in this video at least. BTW, The Chef and Burnt are 2 of my most favorite movies.
