Another way to reduce the cost. I know doing laundry by hand sucks. BUT, there are ways to make it much easier. And you could at least separate the clothes that aren't that dirty and do those this way. Pre-treat/scrub any stains. Then just fill tub (ideal with handles) with water and laundry soap. Use gloves to swish the clothes around a lil bit, then let it sit for maybe an hour (as desired/needed). Then have two more tubs with rinse water (2 rinses) that you add maybe a cup-ish of white vinegar (helps clothes get even cleaner and makes 'em really soft). Lift clothes from soapy tub into the rinse tub (try to squeeze water out a bit, but don't strain... wringing clothes is the worst part of doing this manually). Swish, remove and then put them in the 2nd rinse tub. Let sit maybe 20mins (or less). Now here's the part that's the game-changer. Get a spin dryer (will pay for itself having to do less at the laundromat). It spins the wetness out of the clothes to the point where they are just almost dry (even more dry than right out of a washer). They're dry enough that you don't have to worry about dripping on a floor, so you can put a drying rack anywhere. Hope this is helpful to someone.

I'm blessed to have a W&D in the home I purchased, so I only need to visit our mat when washing my LG. comforters. I bought a "portable" washer for my microflat which spins the clothes dry-ish like that. It's a tremendous money saver!
regular Dish Soap works just as well as expensive Detergent... 👍
But you must use way way way less!!!
